  1. I got similar problem, my ER4S has no sound completely on the right side. I cannibalise by taking out my ER4B plugs to replace & it works but I also need to buy a replacement right plug
  2. If you are using at the office, where you probably also have a computer, look at the iBasso D1. It is ok with the Senn 650. You can also use the dac of the iBasso and connect via usb to use your computer as source. I use this with my Senn 600 sometimes in the office and it works. I sometimes also use the iBasso D1 and iMod with my 650 at home, though, as others said, at home a desk amp would give you better SQ and power. The iBasso uses a built-in rechargeable battery and the battery lasts many times longer than the Hornet. I have a Hornet also though it is now rarely used.
  3. I received my iMod yesterday, 10 Mar. I sent from S'pore on 13 Feb. Vinnie received the ipod on 21st Feb and shipped to me on 4th Mar. Vinnie informed me the turnaround time for the modification to the ipod will take about 3 weeks but in my case it only took 12 days!
  4. The cost for the imod and other information on the imod can be checked at Red Wine Audio's website:- http://www.redwineaudio.com/iMod.html You also need to add the cost of sending it by post. How much depends on whether you want to send by normal parcel post, registered or express. Using the 4G imod, you need a headphone amp as the headphone jack becomes a dedicated line-out so you will need the amp for the volume control. If you opt for the 5/5.5G iMod, you will need the special Lineout Dock cable with BlackGate from ALO. So, a 4G iMod is cheaper My ipod was sent from S'pore to RWA on 13 Feb and I got the email from Vinnie that the iMod iPod was shipped on 4th Mar. Today I check with US Postal Service and it shows my parcel left US on 6th Mar, so I expect to receive it next week. This will give an idea of the timing. If you are using the ipod for casual listening and not bothered about the SQ but about portability, don't bother with iMod. The refurbished 5.5G ipod from the Apple Online Store will be a better buy than the 4G, even though it is 30G compared to the 60G of the 4G refurbished ipod. After all, if only casual listening, 128 bitrate ripping is acceptable and 30G holds a lot of songs and music. But if you are into good quality sound, then the journey is more complicated.....iMod, high bitrate ripping, loseless, headphone amp, good headphone or IEM, custom moulds, upgrade cables etc,. Watch out for your pocket ..................
  5. I got my 4G refurbished 60G ipod just after CNY from the SG Apple Store. Definitely a good buy. Also saw the 5G ipod video (but only 30GB) refurbished is offered at the same price. Got a refurbished 5G ipod video some time ago but have since given it to my wife. Condition of both the refurbished ipod were like new, no complaints. Compared to my ipod Video (5G), the sound quality is definitely poorer on the 4G based on the headphone out. Couldn't compare on the Line Out as my iPod Video is GMod. If you don't intend to have it modified and don't use apple lossless (or FLAC, which means you have to have it rockboxed), then maybe you want to consider the 30G ipod Video. The display of the 5G ipod video is also sharper. I have sent this 4G ipod to Red Wine Audio for iMod a week ago. Hope to receive it soon. When it is back I will compare iMod with my 5G ipod Video, which is GMod.
  6. Happy Birthday & Best Wishes for CNY
  7. Congrats, Heady & Absolute0
  8. My upgrade cable for the ER4S from AKZip (aka APureSound) is on the way, left US on Thurs. I will be showing this at the SG Headphone Meet on 22nd Dec
  9. What does a shop look like?? If you can see what Jaben is selling and there are sales, is that a shop?? All those classy high end hi-fi places at Adelphi and at other shopping centres but most of the time empty. Are these shops?? I think Wilson is so innovative to make his place looks so informal and a gathering place for headphone and music enthusiasts.
  10. Try the Etymotic ER4S or the ER4P. These IEM are very detailed and clear and my favourite IEM for vocals. Check out the reviews in the Internet. I also enjoy listening to female vocals and the ER4S together with the Xin Supermacro 4 headphone amp is IMHO one of the best. No point settling for something less then spend again to upgrade. You can get these ER4S or ER4P for around S$350, incl postage from Amazon.com or other internet vendors. It will cost a lot more if you buy it in S'pore. You may have to use the vpost to ship it to S'pore unless you have somebody in US who can send it to you. If you want to try it out, PM me. I also have the UM2 & the Shure E500 but I still think the ER4S is better, but you can try it out. The UM2 is <S$500 locally and the Shure is abt S$500 if ordered thru Internet. Of course if you don't like IEM and want the full size headphones, then try Grado or Sennheiser 600. I got the AKG701 for slightly more than $500 thru the Internet and you may also consider that. These headphones would need a headphone amp to drive it.
  11. I received a Storm 4B Headphone amplifier last week. Unfortunately due to itchy fingers, I tried to open the casing and ended up breaking the connections to the charger. Heady was kind enough to have these connections re-soldered. Thanks again Heady, you are great! Heady described this headphone amp as "Stylo". I think it looks like the RSA Hornet but a little bigger. I understand from forummers in Head-fi that this is rated as one of the high end portable headphone amps. Here is the link to pics and specs of this Storm B4 Headphone amp:- The amp is bought from eBay. You can check this at http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...54864&rd=1&rd=1 There are some chats and specs at Head-fi on this amp at this address:- http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=231001 I have burn-in about 30 hours so far and the SQ is very good. I did an A-B test with my Xin Supermacro and IMHO using my AKG701, the Storm is probably better than the Supermacro IV. However, using the ER4S, Supermacro 4 is still the best, but then Xin basically designed his amps around his favourite IEM, which is the ER4S. I believe in synergy between different headphones and amps. For me, it is Supermacro 4 + ER4S. For the AKG701, Storm 4B is better, wider sound stage, warmer and just as clear as SuperMacro 4. The Storm also works well with the Senn600 but it was too bassy for my taste when I tried it with my Senn650. I couldn't try with the Grado RS1 as even at minimum volume, it was too loud. Has anybody else tried this amp and what do you think?
  12. The amp is bought from eBay. You can check this at http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...54864&rd=1&rd=1 What you saw was the original, no mods. There are some chat and specs at Head-fi on this amp at this address:- http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=231001 I think we are OT on the DIY Section. Maybe we can discuss this under Amps. I will start the topic there.
  13. Heady, Thanks a lot for fixing up the connections. The battery charger is working well. After a short burn-in period of about 20 hours, the veil was lifted and the Storm amp sounded wonderful although a bit loud for even the ER4S. Even at 8o'clock position it was already quite loud. But it synergises very well with my AKG701, fantastic sounds from my ipod. I did an A-B comparison with my Supermacro IV and the Storm sounded warmer with better sound stage, couldn't believe my ears. The Storm didn't sound so well with the Senn 650 partly because of the heavier bass of the 650. The ipod/Storm/AKG is now my bedside set. For those guys who are impatient to wait for the Hornet, Xin Supermacro or Larocco, have a look at this China made Storm B4 portable Headphone Amp.
  14. I got the young guy at Avit (SL Sq 2nd Storey) to do a silver cable for my Senn 600/650 using my old 600 connectors and changing the connector to a 3.5mm. It is working fine. Maybe you can try him.
  15. Hi, I received a Storm B4 headphone amp yesterday morning. It was working fine but there was a rattling sound when I moved the amp. Thinking there must be something loose inside and hoping to fix it, I opened it. The battery pack was loose. After fixing it, I try to put the stuff back but accidentaly drop it and the wire connection between the battery pack and the circuit board is now disconnected. Can anybody help me to re-solder back the connection? Thanks
