  1. nah dont worry abt it. you were very kind to have helped me out. i should be thanking you, heh. besides, i was allowed, errr, lots of headphones to play around with while waiting =)
  2. UE website recommended an open mouth impression. Have something to bite so your jaws won't move. As do Westone (on their website too).
  3. any LDM+ owners staying in Bukit Panjang/CCK area? having briefly spoken to a few of the forummers here and on head-fi, i can't help but have this niggling suspicion that i may have been shipped that normal gain set instead of the low gain set. so i'm hoping to do a quick one-to-one comparison over the weekend with a normal gain set to see if it is indeed the case. or if anyone's bringing to LDM+ to Stereo any time soon, pls PM me too. Stereo isnt too far from home either. thanks in advance.
  4. ballet music (esp those by tchaikovsky and delibes) is my fav "sub-genre" of classical music. i'm sure the likes of nutcracker, swan lake, sleeping beauty have been recommended...but there are some other great ones like coppelia and slyvia too. oh and try Dvorak's Cello Concerto and Haydn's Concerto for Trumpet.
  5. hehe i'm using a lineout from audiolineout.com with my iPod...seeing how this lineout costs more than the LDM+ itself, it had better not be the problem heh. i remember reading somewhere on head-fi...someone review another amp and was likewise struck by the amt of hiss. fortunately for him, this hiss went away with some burn in. i hope this is the case for me too.
  6. my opinion is most phones will benefit with a decent amp; it's just a matter of how much portability you want to trade off for the perceived sonic improvement. so far my tin ears have felt the bass tightening up a little with the UM2. still waiting to see if the soundstage will open up. it has also been said that the LDM+ should bring out the treble abit more too but we shall see. i've decided to charge the batt first i'll let the unit burn in together with my line out. in the meantime, i'm surprised that there is a very audible hiss when i plug my UM2 into the LDM+ with no source connected. i'm curious, cos i'm already having the unit with lower gain. even stranger is that the hissing is loudest at a slight turn of the knob (from the on/off position) and then becomes softer as the knob is turned to increase volume. finally, at the maximum vol position the hiss disappears... when i have a source (iPod + lineout) connected, the hissing becomes very audible with the knob at lowest and at maximum volume; hissing is faint (but audible nonetheless) at somewhere near the middle position. all observations were made with the whole set up running on battery power. err can anyone explain if this is normal? paiseh, this is my first amp, you see. one reason for my astonishment at the level of hiss was that with my FL100 player alone (which was what i was listening to on my way to meeting you just now heh), the UM2 picks up very minimal hiss. throw in the LDM+ and the hissssssssss comes out so much that it really bothers me. luckily i got the low gain version; cant imagine what it'll be like on the normal gain with the UM2. for now i shall go look up the head-fi LDM+ thread to see what may have been said abt this.

  8. try looking at streetdirectory.com look up rowell court, then pan around and you should be able to find SLS and SLT.
  9. haxyer, how will we be able to locate you at rowell court? errr i dont think you will be setting up GS table/bench hor? paiseh paiseh, i havent been there before.

  11. btw iTunes-LAME actually uses an older LAME version. to update it for 3.97 you have to go through many complicated steps (at least to me haha). so i'm using another program called MAX for that.
  12. i say it really depends on the individual. for some 192 is enough, for others they will die without FLAC. if you have the time, i suggest you do some sort of test on yourself - rip a few songs at the various bitrates and hear for yourself. identify the point at which the tracks become more or less undistinguishable from CD quality. for instance, in the comfort of my own home, where it is much quieter and makes for a better listening environment, i felt i had to go up to 256 kbps; anything under that makes the sounds feels constricted and narrow, like it's just not coming out. but when i'm on the go, 192 is quite enough to keep me happy. for some recordings, even 128 will do. haha i certainly do not have golden ears. i have a track that is 5:30 min long - at 128 kps it's 5.1MB, at 192 it's 7.6 kbps, at 256 it's 10.2 MB. when encoded in Apple Lossless it is 35.5 MB, in AIFF it's 55.7 MB.
  13. no i'm not compulsively checking this thread for updates =)
  14. urgh. wished i felt the same way as you did. i like bass. and somehow um2 and um1 felt like worlds apart to me. and um1 sounded much too forward for my liking too. throw in the nice low profile and comfort level (compared to the UE i had), and there i was sold on the um2 =/
  15. i know how you feel. Stereo's only a 15 min bus ride away from me =/
  16. nope havent gotten it yet. looking to do so, to coincide with the LDM+. LDM+ uses a 3.5mm you say? alright i'll email the seller and confirm with him then. thanks for your help.
  17. this will be my first amp btw, so i'll appreciate if anyone can tell me if this connector works with the LDM+...cos err i really cannot see from the pics whether they are the same sized jacks/connector. http://www.audiolineout.com/silver.html
  18. nope it's not...the hard part is getting them to switch. but they will thank you for it later.
  19. shhh dont say you heard this from me hor...but apple doesnt always ask you for verification for the edu advantage eligibility. but if they, you'll have to fax them some sort of proof. anyway, maybe you have cousins, errr or nieces or nephews who are thinking of switching? time to nudge them over then.

  22. heh there, i have a pair of 1 day old UE SF5Pro for sale. Got them from SE yesterday. Reason as to why i'm selling can be found here: (scroll down to see, i have the same username on HWZ forums) http://forums.hardwarezone.com/showthread....02#post18960102 Looking to get $350. Pls PM if interested.
  23. woah UM2 will set me back by more than $300 wont it? unless i can somehow squeeze $400 out my ippt later this month i dont think i can get that. but still, back to my original query. is it a good idea to buy both the UM1 and CK7?
  24. heh there, my first post here. have been doing some reading up and have somehow decided that i'll be getting both the CK7 and the UM1. that will set me back for abt $300...so i was thinking whether that will be wise. i mean, for $300 am i better off buying something else? i dont actually need 2 sets of earphones, but i seem to like both for different reasons and i can see myself using them for different kind of music. any advise anyone? thanks in advance.
