  1. WTT - Want To Trade Description of Item : 2 week old Audio Technica CK10 Condition : 8/10, very light usage, selling because can't get proper fit Warranty : 11 mths Item wanted : Westone UM2 Selling price : $/TRADE ONLY Preferred Location : Northeast, Central or East Preferred Mode of Contact : PM me Very lightly used CK10 for trade with UM2, not fussy about warranty or colour. Trading because although the sound is great the fit is not quite good for me. Top marks build quality with dual balanced armature technology in the smallest (apparently stainless steel) casing and superb, strong cables. Search Head-fi and you'll see that this phone is highly rated, often being compared to triple armature IEMs from UE, Shure etc.
  2. Hi all, I'm looking at these two models of UEs for portable use out of a Nano, preference is on the Metro Fi 170s. I'd like to ask if there are any users of these on this forum and what are the user experiences (fit, durability, sound (bias bass or treble) etc) with these in ears? Thanks a lot
  3. Please read the classified requirements
  4. You might want to look at the ATH-Pro6 too.
  5. Encode MP3s at 320kbps, then upres to 48khz But ultimately...get a player that supports FLAC or other lossless formats
  6. Custom molds Got em' and they improve the sound tremendously... more than the gap between modded bi-flanges and complys
  7. Too late, I got my molds done, so won't be getting them (for the time being anyway ). Interestingly, I think saw these cans today on my way to school (I was listening to my huge ATH-M20s today, so mine still biggest ) This girl at Harbourfront (She's from my school I think since we got off at the same place) had the white (cream?) coloured version, looks pretty good, though I have no idea how that sounds oh btw listener, the molds I'm talking about are basically impressions of your ears. What it does is that the company will build a shell in which you stick your earphones (Westone UM1s in my case, strictly speaking they are called IEMs ). What you get is a earphones that fits you perfectly, though the cost can seem scary especially for a someone new to this (it cost more than my UM1s)
  8. arguh...crap, I'm about to pull the trigger for custom molds for my Westones and now my life just got a little harder in terms of choices
  9. Wow They look great, real retro, though I'd stay away from that rather 'bright' green especially if going portable with that Panasonic HK lists that as HK $398 RP-HTX7
  10. Arh yes...the well known white glue cure. Well, thankfully I found the trick is to actually when plugging in the stereo plug, look carefully because sometimes fresh out of the Westone case the wires may be twisted and cause stress, so straighten and destress the wire (let it hang loose a while straight out of the case) and hopefully the problem can be avoided or lessened...
  11. Holy S***... Okay, the lucky thing is because the ends of the wire are firmly stuck on the plug (the stereo plug that is), the wire stays in the braid and opens up a little only when twisted, and I hadn't had any (perceptable) noise distortion so far...fingers crossed...
  12. hmm...okay, heres to clear up a little Doug from Westone says that he has a unit of UM1 also, though he did not say how old his was, he says that he too has the similar problem of the wires unbraiding like mine when there is a slight twist of the cord, its just that if the problem becomes much worse i.e the unbraiding affects the integrity of the wire then it should be replaced. Seems like Westone is aware of this problem. But anyway if the problem doesn't become much more serious like the unbraiding becoming longer and/or the sound getting affected then I guess I can live with it.
  13. Thanks guys for the reply Yup, its the strands of wires seperating with no metal exposing yet. However, Westone did reply to my email saying that whilst this does happen, if the split does get worse it'd be advisable to replace the unit. Though it seems that this is a minor(and known) problem, it still bugs me a little given that its only 2 months old
  14. Hey aaron, Thanks for the reply. Nope, not that problem...worse... not only are there the uncut ends (those plastic bits sticking out), but the braided wire itself near the plug is coming apart. Meaning, the wire is made up of 3 seperate smaller wires stuck together, and they are unsticking and seperating Unfortunately I don't have my camera now so I can't show any pics:(
  15. Been enjoying my UM1s for about 2 months, then to my horror I noticed that the braided wire at the end of the mini plug has untangled itself into 3 smaller wires Though not very noticeable at the point (its 2 cms and can only be seen when the wire is twisted slightly in one way...), I'm wondering about the general integrity of the wiring when the end is beginning to split. Anyone with UM1s or 2s got similar problems?

    ATH-CK9

Boxy? Have you seen the Shure E1s? Thats boxy But anyway, that looks pretty good, though I must say it looks plasticky compared to the gorgeous CK7 No matter, as long as it sounds good, though the pricing rumours on Head-Fi is pretty worrying... a lot more than the Super Fis, Westones, E2s and the AL 716/616s...
  17. hmm...talk about the UM1s everyone seems to be using either the Complys or the Tri-Flanges...seems like I am the only odd one here , since I am using the Westone Yellow foamies...Complys are good, but I got kinda large ear canals, so the small ones are too short and and the long ones are kinda intrusive. Shure clearflex & greyflex are out (irritate the hell outta my ears) so I tried the yellow foamies and...bliss . Extremely comfortable, loads of bass w/o killing the midrange. So anyone who can't get any tip to fit may wanna try these yellow foamies
  18. heh, no I am not using the smaller flat cans . I used my M-20 cans (those big circumaurals, coiled wire thats damn thick etc) on the NEL on days when my ears are not 'happy' enough to use my IEMs Nice big cans that cover my ears well enough to drown out most of the noise, though not as well as my Westones I must say.
  19. er...I'm afraid its a real product...some guy on Head-Fi actually dug up the filing of the design with US authorities on the 25th
  20. CK5s or EP630s seem to fit the bill haha, I bring my UM1s to school all the time, keep them literally tied to me
  21. yupz...try first...but if you are a basshead then the 5EB should be your cure
  22. Can try looking around for the old Senn MX400s and 500s. They sound decent, relatively cheap(around $30) and with some real bass, they ought to sound good if your (erhm...) female friend likes to listen to mainly pop and rock
  23. IEMs Great Portable sound, looks less geeky than me wearing my AT cans on the train (Yes, I wore AT monitor headphones on the trains before )
