I find that they sound rather unrefine and muddy. The koss portapro/ksc75 is better for the same design and price. I recommand u go test them out at SE. Then make ur own wise choice

Active NC will be better against engine sound though. Passive NC like IEM would be good for general usage lol. If you ask me, IEM is for the general public who dont mind putting stuff in their ears while active NC is for business traveller who frequently flies. NC phones can sound pretty good btw. They arent that far of from general IEM but of course dont have the qualities of the high ends.

Hmm then get a headphone would be ur best bet lol. A ATH A900. Maybe look for a second hand one would be nice. For crossfeed, actually they will only help a little though. The cheapest one would be a iBasso or C&C amp but they are portables and aint very good

Volume usually isnt the biggest volume as even my Zen Vision has enough voltage to do it. Its more like the current and the amp property thats highly required. DT880 requires a lower volume to make it sound equally loud as the k701. k701 is pretty ineffecient as it is lol. It sounds great for fast paced music though compared to the dt880 It requires more volume then the dt880 which is one indication considering its resistance is only 64ohms compared to 250ohms. Secondly, if you run it out directly from a low power source like mp3 player, you can attain the volume but the phones sound abit cramped with all the music stuck together and bass being less tight. Compared to the dt880 or grado ms2i, they work pretty fine on mp3 players (yes dt880 can run off a mp3 player and sound decent still) but an amp will truely bring out their best no doubt.

if you are on a budget, Audio Technica A500 or a second hand A900 will be very good. Else any of those high end headphones are fantastic. And ur sound card isnt that bad to drive them too. Just make sure the files are decent though

Maybe require more burn in and better synergy between amp and phone. Thats waht I see is the biggest problem with the K701. They require an amp of certain property to really bring it out.

K701 after 150 hrs of burn in. It has lost its brightness. Bass has become tighter. Sound has become fuller. Just chance myself upon a fully burn in DT880 03 Edition. I have to say the biggest difference between the phones is the how the sound feels. DT880 feels like u are in a big room with the instrument/vocal nearer to u. While K701 is the opposite, It feels like u are in a smaller room but the instruments are furthur away from you. Currently I have to say the DT880 Sounds slightly better due to this effect. Anyway my biggest surprise was that the K701 is way harder to drive then the DT880. Hehe now I will wait for next month to grab the sienheisser flagship hd650 and do a full comparison keke.

Just remove them from the side. They are held by some material around the rim of the pads. Thats from the experience of a dt880 which i believe is the same

Hmm the way i intepret is u find the music to be inside ur head as in all the music is squashed up and very in the face? Thats because grado signature is partially the cause of it . They give the feeling of being next or in the performance. Crossfeeding/EAX/Virtualizations are one of the ways to counter it. however as you are still using a grado the music will still feel upfront. If u want to have a feeling of the music around u instead of inside, getting headphones like akg k501, ATH A/AD series would be an alternative also. But if u like grado signature theres nth much u can do abt it unless u get the GS1k which is grado with soundstage

Amps are technically to provide a constant supply of power to your earphones thats is free from limited capabilities of your ipod built in amp. They also color the sound depending on their build making the sound more interesting to listen to. By providing sufficient and constant amount of power, they allow your earphones to work at their best . The better the amp, the better the sound output but this doesnt mean better sound as each person have their own liking. Generally better amps does make your sound better but the coloration may not be to your liking.

And I will start bleeding tons of cash lol. Everytime I do a conversion I lose money lol. Good thing about audio gear is that even at second hand they rarely lose their quality maybe except their asthetics. Currently the only thing im eyeing in the forum is the gs1k but at 1.2k if i get it i wont have a decent home amp to run it (ATH HA20 is decent but seriously a waste on such a gd phone). Source isnt that hard to find though, just the home amp which is a pain in the ass unless importing. The K701 i notice is a little bright when first used, but the brightness kind of tone down over time of use. Its getting better but still a long way off from my speakers >.< lol

Personally I feel that the new rule doesnt really help much against profitteers. A tighter moderation or more moderators will probably do more.

Pretty much why im looking for solid state lol. But tube amps have their advantages over their ss counterparts. Only thing is how do I find a ss amp arnd here lol. I dont really like importing stuff >.< (K701 on import is way cheaper but I always love to test out and have local support for them). So far I only import the hornet and it took longer then expected to reach

Very nice looking amp and not very expensive. Maybe I should try it out considering im looking for mid lvl amp for portable lol. Home equipement is still for me now kekeke

Headphones are really a grade higher compared to IEMs. After using the K701 for several hours, I can clearly see the difference is quite a huge gap. Even the triple.fi compared to k701 seems weak in almost every aspect lol. But headphones just need a damn good amp and decent source to really make it shine. Any good sugestion for a mid range desktop amp. Preferrable something with extremely low maintenience

Hmm lucky I tried according to my budget. Stereo had the amp that I used so I used it as my benchmark equipement. Seeing how capable the headphones Is, I probably need a better source and amp in the future but tats later keke. On a side note, I notice the K701 leaks a considerable amount of sound. At comfortable level, everyone around me can listen to wat im listening. Grados on the other hand doesnt leak as much lol

Indeed lol. But dam i saw ur k701 classified. Could have got a burn in one from u!! lol Anyway if ur selling any of ur other high end gear do tell me kekeke. Yeah auditioning them is important. at this price point, its all about preference and synergy. Quality is really insignificant in difference lol. My sis told me tat she prefer gs1k though and tats wayyy out of my budget -.-

Heh just got my brand new K701 today. Kind of sad though that the moment I got a new set one was up for sale in the classified >.< Lol anyway thanks to stereo for providing me great service. I got to test a whole range of headphones together with my sister before deciding on the K701. The competing headphones were HD650 and W1000. Also tested the all mighty GS1000 for the fun of it. My sister being a musician is way better in describing the qualities of the headphones lol. W1000 was just too upfront and all the music including the background is just being thrown forward. Too much quanitity too little quality. HD650 was very balanced, clear and had quite alot of air in them. K701 was the top for clarity with the best emphasis on the correct elements (Dunno how to phase them properly so pardon me ) K701 had the correct balance in the sound and the best clarity to boot among the lot. Its biggest weakness was that the soundstage just wasnt wide enough. W1000 had a fantastic soundstage but the sound was to mechnical with too short of a decay time. HD650 on the other hand lost out in terms of clarity and comfort. Following my sister advice I chose the K701. Currently burning them in to see how good they can go. On the other hand, my sister did note that the GS1000 was just fantastic. Shes a pure musician not a audiophile and doesnt use any expensive equipement to listen to music like I do. She felt that the GS1000 was just 1 step above k701 in almost any aspect. As a first timer, she felt thought the gs1000 wasnt worth the 1.6k price tag but definitely a 1k+ headphone paring a hifi set.

For me I have pretty small ear canels. I can only use the smallest tip and have a hard time wearing UE earphones. Other then ER4 which I wear stright from the side with cables down, the rest of the IEM is over the ear. ER4 cables somehow dont allow looping over the ears for me. To ensure seal i twist the phones abit till I can start hearing myself significantly.
