  1. I am looking for the ipod dock which you can use to solder cables on to it, so I dont have to use a mini jack there. It is kind of irritating because it extends the length of the cable sticking out, and the one I having now is breaking already anyways.
  2. Okay. I bought the wires and braided them. BUT. I forgot to label the wires. Now I have a bunch of unlabeled wires and don't know which is which. I feel stupid. Currently waiting to see if any of my friends has one (slim chance) or I'd get a cheap one on friday.
  3. Best is to use lossless format, even if you cannot hear the difference with your phones now, if you upgrade later you would not have to re-rip everything again. With 20GB you should be able to store most of your songs anyways. Since your using ipod, you can try using itunes to rip to apple lossless format. Some people argue that it does not product the best sound out there, but I can't hear the difference anyways. Its good enough for me anyways.
  4. Want to sell my existing amp for my pre-ordered Tomahawk. Which I yet to make full payment for Will sell this for $200 or trade for another amp or a pair of headphones (cans). Some amps I am interested in are the C&C Box+ or the XO version, iBasso T1 or iBasso T2, if you have these or anything else for trade, just pm me. I looking for headphones like the K701, DT770, DT880 or DT990. IEMs like UM2 or Super.Fi I am interested too. But that depends on the amount I have to top up. Do PM me your offers. Comes with a black interconnect and receipt. Hope to deal soon
  5. I see what you mean now. I was thinking of the same thing as well.
  6. Sorry I dun catch you. If i use heatstrink to bundle up, then how to solder?
  7. Same. Reduces alot of bulk especially if you have an amp and other stuff to carry along. I rip my music all in apple lossless mainly because I use an ipod. I find the sound quality still good.
  8. Okay I have managed to find two braids that I am more okay with. 5 Strand Thick Braid and 4 Strand Round Braid with Core Currently I think I am going to stick with the first option as it looks easier to bend. Okay. Now, the problem is whether 5 22AWG cables can fit into that small dock connector and mini jack. Or should I use thinner cables. Another question would be if I solder the two cables together first before soldering the two cables onto the headphone jack, would it be more efficient as I don't have to heat the soldering point as long? If I solder on one ground wire only, is it enough? It should be right?
  9. Cool. Will google about some of the things you mentioned. About the cable quality thing, is the quality the same if like I get both silver and copper 26AWG cables from Homegrown Audio? Cause I not very sure what you mean by cable quality here. How can copper and silver be same quality? You mean purity?
  10. I think this one you can ask around here. Maybe some of the resident Gurus can give you a better answer. If you ask me I'd get the UM1s and stick with it until I have enough $$ for UM2 or even the new UM3 coming out.
  11. Was just wondering about a few questions. 1. Would using 4 cables be better than 2? Why and how much better? 2. How to braid 4 cables? And do LHS carry connectors big enough for 4 cables? 3. Is it possible to make a line-out dock with 4 cables sticking out? 4. Is it a good idea to mix 2 copper cables and 2 silver cables?
  12. Its removable and washable. You can buy spares if you like. I do.
  13. Found a nice thread for you. I feel that CK7 is too shrill in the high ends. Took my bet with the UM1s in the end.
  14. I agree. But I dun really use them when I am on the train and stuff. I'd go deaf . Thats why I carry my UM1s with me now a days around with the comply foam tips which makes them more comfortable. In my price range of about $200, I decided that this was the best sounding and decided to buy it.
  15. I suggest the Westone UM1s. Good reviews are about them everywhere. Just a click away. I am using one myself too. I like these because they use a good cable which offers great sound with no microphonics problem. Good for on-the-go users as I use them on my portable setup. Alternatively you can buy the MylarThrees, a pair of earphones which I fancy as well, offers great sound quality for the price, with a entry level amp for that price. However the cables on the MylarThrees are rather thin and will produce microphonics (Sound distortion when the cable is rubbed against your shirt), this problem can be solved with a clip and wearing it over the ears like the UM1s according to uncle Wilson, but its too troublesome for me.
  16. I dun think its my soldering tho its abit messy. Just wondering would overheating the wires be a possible cause? Or maybe it was a faulty connector. Its the $3 one off the wall anyways. Oh well, now I got the hang of doing this... Next project: HomeGrown Audio Silver cable with ipod dock connector and mini jack BTW, issit possible to find silver to use as soldering iron? Is a 25W iron hot enough for it anyways? I am using the one that the white haired uncle recommended me. Oh and is Patrick the old uncle with lots of white hair?
  17. If you need it urgently try bringing to Sim Lim Tower and ask them. Maybe they will solder it back for you for a small fee.
  18. It would definately change the sound coming out of it. For better or worse, thats going to depend on what amp it is and your ears.
  19. I made a two pair of interconnects from a cable that LHS uncle (The one with a lot of white hair) recommended. One failed, one side no sound. The other one still quite good. But sound quality wise, my analog reference still sounded better. Maybe I should try something else?
  20. If you don't mind you can try the MS1, leaving you about $200 for the amps. People say its bad for using on the go because its open cans, I just bought it and used it anyways.
  21. I guess I should update on what my final choice was: MS-1
  22. Thanks for the info. Thats one worry down
  23. I got bored and wanted to make a custom IC for myself, as the one I have now is really too long for my liking. I know LHS is a good place to start with, but are there any other suggestions? I currently need suggestions of what Brand and Model of cable to get. I was thinking of getting a short amount of both silver and copper cables, but I am open to all suggestions BTW, can the 3.5mm mini plugs (these are the ones used for the ipods and stuff right?) be bought at LHS as well ? Hoping to eventually move on to recabling my MS1s
  24. Went ahead to order the tomahawk. Hope I wun regret.
