ballack.. i believe the hornet is a much better amp for higher impedance headphones... the bigger voltage from the 9v batt helps abit here.. the tomahawk is more optimised for iem use but will drive the higher end headphones loud enough...

if you look in the 2nd hand market classifieds, a couple of ATH ck9 going around that price.. very very good earphones and much more detailed than the sf5.pro

ah more details and bass! i think your ipod mini may not be supplying enough juice to your headphones, if it sounds good as it is, id suggest using your ppc as your player from now on.

i have a theory... just guessing here might be that your pocket pc is more forgiving in terms of sound? or you just prefer the way the sound is presented by the pocket pc? u didnt mention in what way did the pocket pc sound better? details? highs/midrange/bass?

Good bass and clarity and isolation? Do you want headphones or the in-ear types? What type of music do you listen to? For headphones, since you want isolation, im suggesting closed headpones like the ATH A900/A700/A500, AKG K81 DJ, Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro, DT250 or Sony MDR 7605 or V6 (both are the same only diff is gold plating on the 7506 plugs) for iems, hard to beat the UM1 but do check out these other models as well such as ER6(i), Super fi. 3, CK9 and iM716 for portable amps, 100-200 will get you alot of good amps like the go-vibe 5 or portaphile or little dot micro + or the xtra...

i would suggest you audition both and choose from there, its a matter of preference in music, preference in how you like your music to be presented and lastly fit.

glad that you are enjoying your purchase... are you still on the regular 192kbps or are you re-ripping everything to 320? i think that its been advised against going from 192 to 320 from the same file unless you re-rip from the original source? happy listening!

i would not 'convert upwards' because you lose data during the conversion process. if space is an issue, the 30gb ipod would suit u just fine. unless sound quality is your absolute priority then the 1st gen shuffle would do the trick with your audio backed up on your pc/mac on itunes.
