  1. If sound is No 1 priority then without doubt the 963a. Equaliser for me (unless really well implemented) is overrated.
  2. N@Z, matbon0013, Singapore Airlines currently has a promotion from 9 Jun onwards called Fabulous Offers which offers a 50% discount for the first 15,000 bookings worldwide and it includes a 2 nights hotel stay in Singapore, airport transfers and admission to a key tourist attraction. hint hint You know the "real" tourist attraction don't you?
  3. Depends. If it is noticeably better than the HD600, sure why not. Shouldn't have sold the Sugden but on hindsight I thought it was for the best because the temptation would have been too great. Now that my ears are OK, I am more interested in getting a headphone amp. Let me know when the Corda HA-1 MKII arrives. I'm very interested to hear that one. If it is anything like the PreHead, oh man...
  4. Try my luck here. Mackie, I'll make my decision after I hear it during the meet. Please give other people who wants it now priority. It's only fair to you.
  5. Rameish, Like I said if I were to listen to other headphones now I would most probably like them better. Always wanted to try the Grado SR-325. Good to know that you are bringing it over. However all Grados including the RS1 has the familiar family sound which is forward. I guess I just prefer to be a few rows in front of the performers. Not on the same stage. N@Z, Yes, it's tinnitus.
  6. Mackie, The Senn never fell out of favour. It's more like I stopped listening to any headphones for the past 1 year due to the ear condition that I had. I figured that my ears are more precious than any headphones. Now it's OK but I'm not taking any chances.
  7. Guys, you can contact me at 97572485. Can all of you PM me your email addresses so that I can email you my address or the place to meet come 21st June? Thanks.
  8. Ha ha I personally think that 1 or 2 audition is not enough to judge the Senn HD600 or any headphones for that matter. You have to live with it. I did and you did and we both know what our preferences are. At least that's cool. The first time I got the Senn HD600, I wondered why in the world I got it when the Grado SR80 was so much better. However after living with both for a while and listening to them hours at a stretch (and got my ears into serious trouble) there was no comparison. The Senn was way way better. I know some people will strongly disagree but "electrostatic" is one of the words that I would describe the Senn. It is not something which will "wow" you the first time you hear it but it will draw you in and once you feel the love there is no turning back. The Grados sound cheap after that. Even after so long not hearing any headphones I still have very fond memories when I had it paired to the Sugden Headmaster and nOrh CD1 tube cd player. Damn, if my ears hadn't gave me trouble back then I would have stayed with that combo for a very long time. I had found my nirvana. But now it's over. If I were to hear the Senns again now I would most probably agree with most of you and would have bought some other headphones. If I were starting I would most probably have bought the Grados too after comparing it with the Senn. But I had the fortune back then (or is that misfortune?) to have bought the Senn HD600 sight unseen with no audition and was forced to actually live with it. Little did I know what awaits. Like Yoda said, you sometimes have to unlearn what you have learn. I think it's a bit like Stax or electrostatic speakers. It's not something you will immediately enjoy but something you grow into (of course some never do) and once you get "it", it never lets you go. Sorry for the long post. Getting a bit nostalgic.
  9. Rameish, Why would you want a Senn HD600 for? You obviously preferred the Grados. Unless you need the Senn in order to sell more Grados. LOL. Actually I don't mind a 1:1 swap for a PreHead.
  10. The Senn acts as a reminder that my ears are too precious and more valuable than any headphones money can buy. Treasure it while you can. Anyway my problem was not listening loud but for long periods of time. 8 hours at a stretch or more. That can do wonders to your ears.
  11. Almost afraid to try any headphones during the meet. Life was kinda sane when there wasn't any around. As for the drinking session, we'll see how the meet goes. For all I know I "pengsan" once the meet ends.
  12. Hey guys I see a lot of headphones and amps. That is great. But how about the source? Anybody bringing cd players? Those headphones and amps are useless without cd players. I can provide a lowend Pioneer 355 DVD player and a Marantz CD4000 CD player to use as a source at most. I doubt these will give you a true indication of the headphones and amps abilities. So cd players. We need cd players.
  13. Sure no problem. Can come on Friday night or earlier. I definitely can do with some help. You can keep the equipment at my place after the meet. Permanently if you so desire. I don't mind late June. 28th issit? If majority can come then, I'm game. Actually any of the Saturday is fine with me. The more stuff the better.
  14. Well there's no more ringing but I'm not taking any chances. I doubt anyone can sway me from the Senns anytime soon. It is a can which grows on you. I liken it to a good red wine which gets better with age. Not that I drink. The Grados are like...well..Coke? Impresses you initially but after that well... I do like to try the AKG501 though. That's one can which surprised me with its sound with the Corda. I didn't expect it to sound as well as it did.
  15. You can give it back to me during the meet. Glad it help in your sales LOL. I don't know what people see in those damn Grados LOL LOL. Nothing wrong with the old name. Just wanted something different. I miss the Headwize days. Head-Fi has too many opinionated people who thinks they know it all. And I fear for those who disagrees with them.
  16. Any of the June's Saturday are OK. You guys pick one. Is there a poll function that one can implement here? After June the place will no longer be available for the meet.
  17. Hi mackie, OK I'll bite. Can PM me the price?
  18. OK I think I can provide at least 2 if not 3 power extensions with at least 5 sockets each. If need more you guys have to bring lah. I prefer if the meet is held on a Saturday. Me being an old man needs my rest on Sunday. I get cranky on Monday if I don't get enough rest.
  19. Rameish, Alamak it's me lah. So how's my Senn HD600 doing?
  20. I think should have enough tables. 1 big one. 1 medium one. 1 small one. Just don't scratch them. Brother's house you know? Let me count. 9 wooden seats. 2 comfy chair. 1 3-seater couch. Worst come to worst the rest can sit on the floor lah. Some can seat in kitchen. Most can sit somewhere in living room. The ones on the floor in one of the bedroom but this bedroom got aircon. The others don't have. Ha ha ha.
  21. I don't mind holding it at my place. Or more specifically at my brother's place. It's empty most Saturdays and Sundays. Only problem is that I don't have a single headphone or headphone amp. Well I do have the Sony 888 earphone if that counts for anything. The only headphone I have (or had) is with somebody in this thread. (hint hint). So I can only offer the place but you guys provide everything else. Source, cd players, heaphones, headphone amps, interconnects, hell everything. If not, don't look at me. Just let me know time and date. Don't worry it's in AMK so it's somewhere central. I just provide the place. You guys organise. Let me know.
  22. Welcome! Electrades (Adelphi) - Sugden Headmaster, AudioValve RKV MkII Hung Brothers (SLS) - Creek OBH, AKGs, Sennheisers Asia Sound (Adelphi) - AKGs Alpha Audio (SLS)- X-Cans Rameish (Here!) - Grados, Cordas Music By Design (Adelphi) - Grados, CEC HD-51, Cary 300 SEI As for Headroom stuff the only place I know is Headroom USA itself.
  23. Looking at the tendency for people to upgrade and buy more headphones here I would still recommend the Corda HA-2 or PreHead. This way the amp portion is done with. The Corda would definitely drive most headphones well with the exception of the AKG1000. I really felt that only the Corda could drive the AKG501 to its potential. The Corda HA-1 on the other hand wasn't that good to me. Don't know about the MKII though. Would love to hear that one. IMO of course. As for portable use if he's using AKG501, I'd say forget about it! Get another headphone. An easy one like the Grados. Oh god, I sound like your sales representative.
  24. Personally I felt the Corda HA-2 and Pre-Head could drive the AKG501 very well if not to its full potential. Other amps I've heard with it like the Creek OBH11, Grado RA-1 didn't have enough power.
