  1. wow, i really should learn some amp building skills from you... been doing enough LODs alr
  2. Done that many times, but they can't really help me if i dun really know which female jack i want.
  3. dude, may i ask whcih female jack u are using. cos right now i'm trying to make my own dock but can't find a suitable connector. Thanks.
  4. BETA22!!!! Actually, i too want to see if there are more amps to build.
  5. In my opinion, for around the same size, try the corda xxs. If something around the size of an thicker ipod wouldn't bother you, try the graham slee voyager. 6. i usually get the japanese 3.5 female mini3 jack, and a canare jack which i use to experiment with in making a resistance adaptor for my er4s. That strain relief can be reused to make LODs.
  7. yup, great decision man, from previous experiences, vampire cable doesn't disappoint.
  8. errr, RCA is more striaght forward than 3.5mm jacks... just connect one channel to the signal and the other to ground.
  9. err, in general, there are several different type of caps, made of different materials, and different brands. Consider polypropene caps, you will be able to find those that cost up to 300 or more, thats because they use exotic materials like silver and gold to make them. However, black gates are mostly electrolytic caps, and if i'm not wrong they are the most expensive of the lot. Usually, they go for a few dollars for the values that we use in the LODs, Unless you are talking about larger values that can never fit into LODs. Cerafine and silmic for example cost less than 1 buck each for the values that we use for LODs.
  10. 30 each?? you are kidding right?
  11. on the contrary, Koba does sell silmic and cerafine caps, which i think is one of the higher end, botique caps that i know of now. However, if u are refering to 10 uf 35v silmic 2 caps, i'm not sure. But if according the last time i've been there, they do stock 10uf 35v silmic caps.
  12. u can try going to koba to find one, ask them for a carbon film, 2k ohms 1/3 watt resistor, maybe if you are lucky they have xicon also. But if not, it would be similar. Very much cheaper this way also
  13. actually, i just changed some of the capacitors, there is a mini3 thread on this forum, has tonnes of mods on it. A few of alvin's mods are pretty good, basically, i just play around with a few and merge a few of his ideas and others. I will not say that mine is original, just a one of the variety.
  14. amb mini3 high performance IMO has a wide soundstage, detailed, and a little dry, however can be modded to give a slightly warmer sound. i have not seriously auditioned the rest so i shan't say anything about them. But i am using a modded mini3 myself and i'd say its really, really worth the money.
  15. i'm ok with anything, as long as it comes back to me as it went out.
  16. hmm, i wouldn't say no to this at all actually cos i've actually heard it myself, and i would compare it with yuin pk1, however, perhaps u would bargain a little more
  17. hmm, morgan, do you have any LODs with Elna and SXC? cos i only have a elna cerafine cap LOD with vampire cable, the SXC i have is with BG, i sort of lost interest for LODs after the vamp cable haha.
  18. hmm, i wouldn't want to start a flame war, but based on my own experiences, preferences, and opinions, i find black gates are the best for soundstage, a little on the muddy side though. Elna silmic caps are more on the analytical side, while i personal favourite is elna cerafine caps. And just as morgan said, i've only ever made 1 LOD with BG caps to try out, the caps cost more than the dock/cables/jack put together... i can't justify buying BGs for that price. strictly IMO.
  19. a piece of advice, if ur cables are large, don't use that plug, the cable outlet is sort of too small. I made this cable cos i just found out what material my friend used for the sleeving around the cables, haha.
  20. ok... so i've been out of the picture for some time, busy with my fixing up amps. Well here's my contribution today to keep this thread alive. this is a 3 silver core and 1 copper LOD, was playing around with the sleeving around the cable that a good friend of mine made me guess what it was for several months.. haha.
  21. At last a STAX owner in singapore, i was starting wonder if there were any left. oh... its Arthurs'... any more STAX owners out there?
