  1. What are your opinions on them? e.g AKG 33,44 found at HMV and other CD shops for CD sampling. I thought they sounded rather clear, though a bit midrange bias. Bass is well balanced though. Also, price and location to buy them? I haven't seen them in shops before. Oh, and they're very comfortable too!
  2. don't mind me but how did you get the window to look black?
  3. does it? 2 similiar resistance in parallel -> half the total resistance. The power to each output would still be the same but the amp gotta work harder and there's a chance it might damage the drivers (I'm talking about speakers though). But headphones having higher impedance shouldn't worry. Not sure about sound quality but generally it's poorer, not sure of exact reason. solution? Use op-amps?
  4. I can't remember the source but I read before when the cd writing speed had just crossed the 48X mark that writing above 4X will give some error (0.01 % or something like that) But I guess the diff in quality is almost unnoticeable, unless you have ultra sensitive ears and have a very transparent setup.
  5. hi gurus, may I know what mp3 players do you use? Anybody did a test on these 3 or others? I personally find kernel streaming (foobar2k) the best, using my onboard sound and cheap BEhringer headphones..... Also, where to get the ASIO plugin for Winamp? Winamp -> kernel stream = how?
  6. I have the HPS3000. I no sure they are good or not cos no comparison, though I would like to do that with a Sony/Philips/Koss in the $60-150 price range...but sure is better than any heaphones/earphones I have now... personally, treble could be a bit stronger. Bass is adequate if driven correctly. Soundstage? haha... One thing for sure, workmanship not that great, got quite a distinct plastic feel to it. Not solid.
  7. what's the effect of noisy power supply on the sound? I get humming? Just felt that pc psu is more efficient and cheaper than buying and connecting my own core. I also used it to power my car amp....
  8. hmm...maybe. Cause I'm not really building a portable one but one for my PC, will be tapping the 12V DC from the PSU so can get +-6V... I'm not sure about opamps, but can I just use any level of supply voltage? There should be a minimum and max? sorry me a newbie....

    My equalizer

hmm....but your speakers (not headphones) may sound diff in your room hence the eq is used to tweak it. For example in small room maybe it's good to down the bass and high; up the bass and highs in a large room/auditorium...of course audiophiles will actually CHANGE the room... er...wortel, 500Hz and above is in the mid/vocal range...very important. I think you set your eq using pop/rock songs? Try classical/jazz and you'll realise the impt of the mids...
  10. what's the bypass/crossmix thing for? An active crossover circuit? Gain of 11 is a bit too low, do you know the limit of the opamp? How about x30?
  11. why is that so? Not all CD players have eq, tone controls....or I shouldn't meddle with the eq and let it sound natural? You basically answered your own question. ahh...I see. Let it sound as intended. Thanks. but.....I tend to mess with the eq I guess, need it to figure/filter certain instruments to put down to scores for jamming...also didn't have a high end headphone (Behringer HPS3000), so needed the eq to do some fine tuning of sound.... but I guess purist will hate me for that@ wortel, does the opamp comes with instructions/schematics? What's the supply voltage? Exactly +-4.5V?
  12. a bit more money?!?! That alone cost more than my pc setup.... audio, what do you mean sound the same to you?
  13. erm, try the disc in a conventional cdplayer/discman. My guess is it won't clip... same problem as me?
  14. why is that so? Not all CD players have eq, tone controls....or I shouldn't meddle with the eq and let it sound natural?
  15. the circuit looks pretty simple, perchance adding bass/mid/treble controls? Anyone knows how?
