  1. Hi! Want to sell Corda HA-1 headphone amp. Good condition. Asking $365, amp only. Prefer to deal at Boon Lay MRT during office hour or Woodlands MRT after office hour. PM me if u are interested.
  2. Hi! papaya86, are there people talking about the errors in the CD or they are errors like badly out of tune stuff so u can hear instantly?
  3. Blues, I think papaya86 will kill u once he find out what RKV is, or cost, or ......
  4. A: Man U Q: Tube or transistor?
  5. This is a very good live performance by the very well know Martha Argerich. U just cannot resist the fire and sparks in her matured and wonderful performances. Philips 446 673-2 Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3 Riccardo Chailly conducting RSO Berlin Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 Kondrashin conducting Symphonie-Orchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks I would highly recommended this.
  6. This is a nice recording of Rachmaninov Piano concerto no. 2 and the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. DECCA London 417 702-2 Vladimir Ashkenazy on piano, Andre Previn conducting London Symphony Orchestra. Rachmaninov wrote very romantic piano concertos. The Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini is in the form of a theme and 24 variations. In particular the 18th variation, where the composer very cleverly play the original theme in the reverse manner and how beautiful a new variation he had created.
  7. Hi! Gentlemen, let's cool down man. I think papaya86 has got his point through regarding his opinion on the price. And of course snr has all the right to decide his selling price. So I guess we will just let the potential buyers decide for themselves. I think the facts are quite clear already and the rest are presonal preference no point argue and hurt each other. Let's keep this forum in good harmony.
  8. Hi! Leekb, welcome to sgheadphones forum! I am afraid u can only mail order Corda but Corda boss Jan Meier is fast and friendly should not be a problem dealing with him. Hi N@Z, u need not have to keep your promise strickly, right?
  9. Was talking about this in the Beethoven Violin Concerto thread and I think this recording is well worth recommending: Great Recordings of the Century EMI Classics 7243 5 66902 2 6 Beethoven triple concerto ( I believe the only one in this form with 3 solo instruments violin, cello and piano ) Brahms double concerto ( for violin and cello ) The triple concerto was played by Oistrakh, Rostropovich and Richter, with Berlin Philharmoniker conducted by Karajan. 5 superstars in 1 recording! My only complaint about this recording is that the piano was not recorded that well compared to the very good piano recordings. The Double Concerto was played by Oistrakh and Rostropovich, Szell conducting the Cleveland Orchestra.
  10. Hi Mackie, is it really so that the single layer SACD is more expensive? I have not come across many single layer SACDs (if that is what u meant by pure SACD) except those by SONY. So far almost all of them I came across are hybrids SACDs. The SONYs are more expensive and I find them not value for money. I did get a handful of them in the early days of SACD when software are rare but nowadays almost abundant them totally. Besides being more expensive also if one day for some reasons SACDs are not supported any more u will have no music from these discs and also u can only enjoy them from a dedicated SACD players.
  11. I believe some of the forumners have the Oehlbach cable and may want to let go. Just ask when u are ready. One of my friend and I had tried this on the HD600 and the Oehlbach did presented a relatively bigger sound stage and I think it works well with HD600, though personnaly I find it not so impressive on a HD650.
  12. Still available? I drop u an email. Thanks!
  13. From what I know is the same as Mackie: The SACD disc contains 3 types of info: SACD stereo, SACD multi-channel and conventional red book. So the SACD 2-channel and the multi-channel data are independent.
  14. For such a good price I think u can get the headphone first and when later u have save enough then consider the cable upgrading. IMO it is OK with the stock cable, just that when u A/B u will very likely to go for the upgrading cable.
  15. Photo from Meier site. The amp is made by Audio Valve for Meier audio.
  16. OK, recommending this one with candazas by Joseph Joachim. Soloist is Henryk Szeryng, supported by Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra conducted by Bernard Haitink. Philips 442 398-2 The recording is good, the concerto well performed and very good support from the orchestra. Szeryng has a very perculiar vibrato that is quite different from the rest, more on the slow side, easily audible in this recording on his long notes. Like most of the soloist of Beethoven violin concerto out there he adopted a slower tempo for the first movement.
  17. Wow! Corda Eartube. Pretty nice looking but I think is much bigger than their also recently launched Prehead Mk II. Technical information still not available yet on Jan Meier site.
  18. Hi! LaoMao, I think I got u but u very cheam leh! Are u a violist or string instrument player by training? I remembered discussing with friends, but very very long long time ago, that for example a C sharp and a D flat can sound different on a violin. But of course on a tuner they are the same. But I have long time did not borther about this until u reminded me of this. Let me try my Oistrakh recording. At this point of time Heifetz's one is still fine with me.
  19. Based on my taste the HD 600 works well for classical music and female vocal. However the original HD 600 cable seems to be a weak link and upgrade of that cable IMHO seems quite important.
  20. Although the 3 soloists finally agreed with Karajan, I remember reading somewhere that even for that recording Oistrakh and Ritcher did have quite a fair bit of disagreement and so much so that need Rostropovich and Karajan to come in between. Luckily that particular recording turned out fine and very good. Do not quite understand your point on the A7 ascending chord (my music theory rusty already), do u mean the violin entry in the first movement? I believe Oistrakh interpretation should be consistant so I can compare using my mono Oistrakh with that of Heifetz. Anyway I still think u can have more than one copy of the Beethoven, unless that A7 ascending chord really borders u (seems like from what u have said, so good for u lah can save some money . Just the tempo variations u already can get different effect and also the different candazas, although I must admit that the best of all the candazas probably is the Kreisler one.
  21. Hi! LaoMao, just to confirm with u that u are refering to op 61 EMI stereo recording by David Oistrakh? I have not seen this version before. I only came across the Beethoven triple concerto, also by EMI, with Oistrakh playing violin, Ritcher playing Piano, Rostropovich playing cello and Karajan conducting. With this type of artist combination u can hardly resist buying this recording.
  22. Hi! LaoMao, I like old timer soloist very much and so is David Oistrakh, one of my favourites. I do have a version of his Beethoven but is in mono recording under label CDO with Moscow State Sym Orch and Alexander Gauk as conductor. Will try to look for the EMI version. BTW, before u throw away all your other recordings of Beethoven Violin concerto would u please give me an offer and I might take them all!
  23. The label, soloists, orchestra and the conductor are all not familar to me at all. The special thing about this 2-CD album is it bring together one of the most popular of all violin concertos with its much lesser known double, the piano concerto, transcribed by Beethoven himself as soon as the original was completed. In this 2-CD set u have the Kiev Camerata conducted by Virko Baley performing the violin concerto (soloist Oleh Krysa, good performance) and the transcripted piano concerto (soloist Mykola Suk, I am not so convince but OK) op 61a. I have been looking around for the piano version of the violin concerto but so far this is the only one I have came across, which I got it from towerrecords.com USA. Some of the performer of the violin concerto today adopt a faster tempo for the first movement (like that of Heifetz) also because of the piano version. Basically the running notes and scales in the first movement cannot sounds nice with piano if played at a slower tempo, thus the theory that the first movement should be played fast. However amoung my collections most of the violin soloist adopted a grand and slower tempo. Also in this collection the candeza used was written by Beethoven himself! It is rather interesting that actually Beethoven wrote the candazas for the piano, but he actually did not write any for the violin. The version of the violin used was transcribed by L Bulatow from the piano candazas. One of the unusual aspect of the candazas (in the 1st and 2nd movement) is the duet between the soloist and the timpani. Also I would also like to highlite what the Beethoven violin concerto that drawn my attention when I first listened to it is the 5 timpani strokes at the begining of the 1st movement (I guess first in music history that any composer began a concerto with timpani and this timpani actually formed one of the theme in the first movement) and the very chicky ending of the last movement.
  24. This one I have mentioned before a SACD that is disappointing, and in this case is a Butterfly Lovers / Yellow River recording. Actually the performances were good but the recording did not do justice to the musicians. Definitely not worth paying SACD price for the quality, but I think for a normal CD price maybe OK, but I am not sure is there a normal CD version of this.
  25. This is IMO another well performed and well recorded Butterfly Lovers. I have both the gold disc and the normal disc version. Recording was done in 24bit digital. No XRCD and SACD versions yet (Hugo seems to move away from SACD, probably not moving into DSD digital master, I guess). The Orchestra was from Russia and the conductor an indonesian Chinese. The Butterfly Lovers was cut into 8 tracks, and it was accompanied by Mendelssohn violin concerto. The violinist Xue Wei was using a Stradivari in this recording.
