  1. maybe when i free i shall go over to stanley hse to help myself and bring back to try out on my rig. actually i disagree haha. i came from foobar to cdp. storage space is a problem and i store all my lossless on a wireless external harddisk and the most irritating thing is the jitter i get during songs due to lag. zzz tagging, ripping and archiving them properly has been too much of a hassle. although using cdp, my choices of albums is greatly reduced as compared to pc but give me more reason to go out and buy cds and support the artist. hunting for cds that are hard to find can be quite fun/rewarding/sastifying experience.
  2. this thread is providing me with all the entertainment that i need. I could help you give impressions on your behalf. Just pass me all your stuff.
  3. best advice is to go and try. if your ears says good means it is good. bring more cash.
  4. i asked stanley about placing footers under my amp which is stack on top of my cdp and he told me to seperate them and put footers. I think footers on top of your cdp and under your dac might not be as effective as seperating them. think you should consult the pros on this issue. oh my the cd mat is quite costly, looking for cheaper cd treatments/tweaks stuff. the problem with buying second hands cds is that the condition are not that good and i am looking for stuff to improve them either physically/mentally.
  5. cool. if i got space i would do that. the dac can be use for my laptop if i lazy to use my cdp plus my laptop has quite a few albums which i dun have the cd. just curious, what the average cost of a cd mat?
  6. @uberburger101 i would advise you to calculate the potential cost of going transport + dac vs cdp. for transport + dac combo, as Kachui mention you need to count the cost of a powercord, interconnect from transport to dac and lastly knowing you, footers for the dac. Another consideration is also space. do you have to space on your table to add another item? for cdp upgrade, you can sell off your current one to get a new one thus lowering your upgrade cost. you should map out the 2 potential options you are looking at and calculate the total cost for each path. whether the Rega path or the Stello path will sound better i have no idea. That for you to find out.
  7. Read http://www.sgheadphones.net/index.php?showtopic=9807
  8. that quite fast i sent in mine same time as sHaRkKaE so i'm assuming mine coming back and most importantly my driver no problem! whew. wha hope to see the clear customs in the flesh before they get collected.
  9. 3 Door Down-Seventeen Days (US Press)
  10. Just a slight update without bursting the wallet.
  11. Agreed on this 3 points, soundstaging was one of my first comments about the HD800 after I heard it. Auditioning time was less than 30mins thou considering watching the video was part of the 30min. Cool video nevertheless. Great meeting you, we same timeslot somemore. Last time IE8 preview saw you before but didnt know you were heady until today.
  12. Along the stretch where Double O(the club) is, followed by this condo called The Pier and walk down a bit more is the place already. Hope this helps, that how i tried to go there.
  13. Just came back from the event and I must say the place quite hard to find! Got lost somemore. Should inculde a map and direction guide in the invitation card. Anyway enjoyed the finger food and drinks, met people like heady, shadowmoses, gene83(i think). Enjoyed my time chatting and listening to what they had to share. For the HD800, I brought my HD580 to compare and I think the amp that was used didnt do justice to the HD800. Auditioning time was quite short thou. Every minute counts! Rating 9/10. Good comfort, sound signature is the type that I prefer. Good Job by Sennheiser.
  14. Looks like Air Force School training paid off. After about 2 months of waiting with many twists and turns, my cd shipment finally reached safe and sound. The condition of the cds were not as good as I expected but luckily all turn out to be genuine japan pressing cds. Just in time for the HD800 auditioning session.
  15. looks like you clear whole singapore mathmos lava lamp stock. spoke with the shop person again yesterday during my lunch break and he says maybe next year might bring in mathmos lava lamp again. on a side note, if shipping wasnt that ex, would have bidded on the mathmos lava lamp on ebay. winning bid £10.49 but shipping to singapore £24. welcome to this forum julius, love the fighter jet 'tweak' you got there for your rig. is that a F16 by chance? Once bitten, twice shy. Head-fi has too much hype seriously, I take what i read there with a pinch of salt. Personally for big ticket items I wont buy if I never try before. Since we do have quite a variety of stuff available here, might as play it safe with my thin wallet.
  16. it has been some time since i got that 'wow' feeling from a chinese pop album. this one definitely stood out like a shining star A-Lin-Diva trying to find her album in local cd stores(apparently they dont bring in)
  17. a bit slow to reply to this but Kachui post on "it all about the music" has given me plenty to think about. with so many things to upgrade and tweaks, all costing pretty much(in terms of my spending power). where can one find the end point in audio? i always said to my friends who are not in this hobby that it is a dark hole, once in cannot see a way out. anyway being on a limited spending power in a way has led me enjoy the music more than enjoying the equipment which i am thankful for and with a semi decent setup for home rig coupled with less auditioning, makes it much easier to resist the unseen force of gravitational pull of the dark hole of audio. having said all that thou, still on the search for a replacement cdp for my 1 cd per night cdp. i want a Sony CDP-557ESD!
  18. @Whenesday, nice lava lamp. might get 1 in the future also when the timing is right @uberburger101, guess you finally heard the power of a cdp eh. nice Wall-E 'tweaks' you got yourself there. @jpcc, interesting food for thought, thanks for the post, the quality of posts in sghead is so much better than posts on the other side. @Kachui, i agree on the price perception quality. Guess is quite the norm throughout for a lot of things out there, stuff like clothing, gadgets, etc.
  19. i wonder how many guinea pigs Aron managed to get.
  20. i agree. Just sharing my experience of doing ear impressions at Digisound. It was my first time doing ear impressions. For my right ear, it was only slight discomfort and pain. Whereas for my left ear, when she insert that sponge+string combo into my ear, quite pain and the pain stayed throughout until the impressions was taken out(the pain was within my pain threshold level but still quite painful!!!) After the mixture was injected in, I was experiencing ringing sounds on my both ears for quite a while. For my bite block, I use an apple supported by my right hand. The stability was good but I find it hard to breath because of the apple. With regards to the accuracy of the ear impressions, shall feedback when i get my customs.
  21. will feedback on its effectiveness. thanks for the suggestion but after asking around for opinions, i think i will be making my impressions at digisound.
  22. nice setup you got. what are you using as source?
  23. i heard that bite block will not be provided if doing ear impressions at Digisound. Any idea what i can use/bring as my bite block? thanks
