  1. Haha dangerous advice every time i hear a live performance i realize things i don't really want to realize. I particularly like good acapella groups performances WITHOUT amplification (cause most who use mikes don't know how to set the mike up properly and it ends up sounding very disembodied). The beautiful timbre of the natural voice, and the perfect pin-point direction. Sweet.
  2. Hey Eric, what are you using the PSU for? I thought your DAC/amp are 240V in?
  3. Dunno about the price, but they are very nice! If i were to get a dynamic can this would prolly be it
  4. Ok before I begin, let me point out that while you have pointed out the difference between a stock power cable and a "audio grade" power cable, you still have not mentioned anything about different "audio grade" cables, for example, say the difference between the belden 83803 which cost a few bucks and your favourite few hundred bucks power cord. Ok lets see what you have said: Before i comment on this post, for the benefit of other readers, I would like to clarify the formula that this poster used: v = I*(wL+R) Most ppl would know what is V, I, R, L is the inductance in Henry, and w (omega actually) is the angular frequency of the oscillating power. Firstly, the poster obviously failed basic physics. This formula totally doesn't make sense. That poster obviously just derived that formula from V = wLI and v = Ri. Now, notice that i use caps in one eqn and not the other, the one in caps refer to amplitude. In short, in your AC current, we can write v = V*sin(wt). Also note that the formula V = wLI DOES NOT mean that v = wLi, actually the correct expression is v*sin(wt) = wLi*cos(wt), i.e. they are exactly out of phase. Audioengr (his nick) indeed. The correct expression for a sinusoidal driven circuit is V = I*sqrt[R^2 + (wL)^2]. Now if we use HIS values, which in the first place cannot be verified at all, we get V = I*sqrt[0.235^2 + (60*7.2e-6)^2] = 0.235000397 Notice the interesting thing? Even IF your power cord has perfect zero impedance, you only get 0.235, which is 0.00168% difference. I don't even need to use his 2nd example of a better power cord to blast his 22% bullsh*t out of the water. Worse still, you realize that both equations assume an ideal circuit without load. This is of course far from the truth. Adding some impedance for the load decreases the above percentage even further. I'm not even sure if we can measure this difference in a home environment. Inductive in nature? 7.2e-6H (based on your poster) is inductive in nature? And in the first place that number is totally insignificant, since the inductance of the wire will increase far more than that ammount due to the coiling of the cable (cause it is impossible for anyone to put his snakes in a perfect linear fashion. And half a circle counts as coiling too, it does not have to be a complete circle.) LC filter? Ok I've talked enough about L inductance, lets see about capacitance. The belden 83803 power cord has 32e-12F of capacitance. Go figure. Conclusion? Stick to well known arguments like "it just sounds good". Don't touch science unless you know what you are talking about. EDIT: No offense bro, the last statement was not directed against you as well.
  5. Eh? What explanations are those? I'm really curious to know.
  6. Not really, for one, the Pico has a DAC, and for another, the Pico does a better job driving headphones with higher power requirements, though of course nobody in the right mind will get a portable amp for such a can, so this point is pretty moot, and its basically your own preference.
  7. You must have a realistic expectation of what upgrading your source or amp will do. Changing your source will not make a beyer sound like a denon. You definitely will get much cleaner tone and clarity, as well as increased dynamics and detail. To put it shortly, you must know what you want. If you are contented with your beyers for your vocals, etc, and just want to have something to rock your metal, then forget about your source and what not and just get a can that suits your metal tastes and that can be driving properly by what you have now. If you want to have better general sound, then consider getting a better source/amp (just get a cheap CDP and throw away the edge. Nothing against the edge, but i think someone's claims that it can drive the DT880 600ohms is stretching the meaning of "drive" a little too much.). In short, know what you want. Saves you a ton of money.
  8. How about this to match the woodie panels: http://www.thevintageknob.org/SONY/sonyes/.../CDPX777ES.html
  9. I like the way the wood panels at the side match the table
  10. Nice! Just curious, both you and jojo put the dacmagic standing up, is it supposed to be placed that way? Wow what mod is it? effective audio mod?
  11. Does the AR RR-77 work for headphones? I thought it was more for hi-fi?
  12. That assumes that there is actually a "swee swee" state... ... of which there are always bigger and meaner toys
  13. You should change the cord too, gives the blobs a fuller structure.
  14. Talking about grado, this is just pure porn. The price sucks, but look at the photos man... http://cgi.ebay.com/Mint-Vintage-Grado-Rs-...%3A1|240%3A1318 Mmmm... Woooodieee!
  15. My god you aren't kidding when you said "everything".
  16. Yeah it's his. I recall seeing tt pic somewhere before on HF sometime late last yr. I was like... man And I was wondering what was ERS paper... http://www.tnt-audio.com/accessories/ers_cloth_e.html Strangly though I recall him selling just 1 of his ground conditioners a few weeks ago. I didn't pay attention then, but it now struck me as wierd. Maybe he found 10 conditioners better than 11?
  17. I recommend getting STAX there. Esp try Yahoo!Japan if you can manage the payment and address part. They go for pretty good prices there sometimes. That's if you're going to do electrostatics
  18. Hey Jig_sg, another amp for you? All-Triode Direct-Drive Amps for Electrostatic and Electret Headphones I personally have great faith in the triode topologies. Extremely simple circuitry, with very minimal feedback, partly because the triode is already one of the most linear devices thus far invented by man. Interesting, no?
  19. Definitely if you need to try something out Stereo is your best bet. Warning though, don't expect a perfectly quiet environment, so if you're trying something open you might not appreciate it totally. I believe that there is a recent post with someone asking exactly the same question, so you might want to refer to that post and repost your other questions there accordingly. Music on the computer/mp3 player is generally a compromise, so if you're not too far into the computer line like me to be stuck in it I suggest you seriously consider a CDP.
  20. Your equipment has certainly been massively boosted over a mere few weeks
  21. Just tried it out at Stereo. Totally agree with [J]-ohn. Very nice IEM, good details with musicality. However, some might find the bass a little too little, considering that I find it great and I use the ER-4.
