  1. I tried both with my RS-1 and all I can say is that both amps sound completely different but have their own strengths. The Earmax Silver sounds extremely lush, smooth and enticing but not at all slow. It is also much more powerful than the Yamamoto from what I could tell. Yamamoto is not as lush, but still has that touch of tube goodness for female vocals. Earmax Silver is good for high and low impedances, but the Yamamoto is much better with low impedances. Both are excellent amps, and it's more about pairing than anything. Earmax Silver with my RS1 was extremely memorable, while the HD650 sounded way too thick and syrupy for my liking. Perhaps the Earmax Silver will pair well with the DT880... I didn't have a chance to try.
  2. I think he polished it like he did with all his other woodies.
  3. You guys are lucky to have tried it...
  4. DX1000, MDR-SA1000, MDR-SA5000, MDR-CD900ST. I believe all these headphones can't be found locally. And I was told from a friend that Stax'en are cheaper over in Japan.
  5. Ok I have to admit. Those woodies look gorgeous, totally different from the first few pics I saw. Whew, luckily I don't have a HD6xx.
  6. Yes, can't think of a better present anyone would give him. I would get that keyboard just for typing if I had the cash... Really springy keys. There are other DACs you can try (at the meet, if you're going) within the DACmagic price range, some DIYed, if you don't need the balanced outputs.
  7. This made me feel better. This did not.
  8. Home rigs are so difficult to build.
  9. If you get one... There will be enough people to form a Team Yamamoto.
  10. Congrats! Any rough guide on the price?
  11. You bought that just after I bought my contact cleaner from Homefix...
  12. I liked both the ER4 and the Atrio but for different reasons. I still need some of that groovy bass on the go.
  13. Nice review. Read good things about the GS-1 + K701 pairing, should work well with the K601 as well.
  14. RS1 would be a nice compliment too. Though the HD800 would probably replace all the cans, or at least I expect it to.
  15. Very sweet rig there, ivant. What cans are you using?
  16. D1001 actually does not sound like typical Denons. For this case I would get the HD555, but do note it's an open can and actually quite big. Unsuitable for portable use unlike the D1001 which is smaller.
