  1. I have received quite a few PMs asking me to comment about how this headphone or that amplifier sounds, This question is usually asked by inexperienced members but somtimes I get the same question from people who really should know better. The first thing to do when you are in this hobby is to stop hunting for the best bargains and then try and build a system based on that. In the long run you end up spending more cos you'll keep changing your components. The second thing to do is find a good dealer who doesnt mind when you bring in a rival's component to compare. The third most important thing to remember is you are at any point in time listening to a system consisting of source, amp and headphones. By mearly switching the headphone (with the amp and source unchanged) you cant come to a conclusion. Your amp and headphones need to be matched more carefully becaused low impedence cans tend to sound better with high current amps (solid state) while high impedence cans tend to sound better with high voltage amps (tube). Of course life is not that simple and I have heard high impedence cans (like the Senn HD-600) sound quite nice with a solid state amp (like the Grado RA-1 or the original Corde Pre-Head). While the low impedence Grado RS-1 sounded quite nice with a tube amp called the Micro-Zolt http://www.davidberning.com/microzotl.htm or the Cayin Ha-1A (I still prefered this amp with high Z cans). Now throw in a dash of interconnects, power cords etc and you can see how I am unable to say for sure if somthing will suit you. I know what I want, but frankly, you should be listening to music and making your own choices. In a nutshell: 1) Trust your ears 2) Bring your own music to audition (and please dont bring MP3 files ya) 3) If buying just one component remember that you are listening to a system. 4) hi-fi reviewers have different ears, listen to different music, have deadlines and magazine advertising pays their salary ;-) 5) Owner reviews are 1) biased 2) may not have enough exposure to other products 3) overhyped because it's their new toy. I hope this helps a little in guiding you out of the hi-fi jungle. Maybe is does and maybe it doesn't :-) Face the music and enjoy it for once. Ta

    RS-2?

Here's my take, Get the GS-1000 if you have the budget if not go for the RS-1 (but whatever you do dont compare the 2 at the same time if your budget cant get you the GS-1000). I had an RS-1 a couple of years ago and it was my reference headphone (until I got myself a HP-1 (ie the HP-1000 series with the better matched drivers and polarity switches). For me the SR-250 is also very good. What you need to do is compare systems insted of just headphones then build you system accordingly. Since you have the CEC why dont you go to Music By Design and audition the RA-1 and the Grace with the RS-1. I'm not sure if MBD has a demo RS-2 on hand (they have every other model except the RS-2 somtime back before the arrival of the GS-1000). Also consider the Grado Signature interconnects. They are really very decent for the money. BTW, I did try the GS-1000 and at some point I has every Grado model in my home. But, you should really listen for yourself.
  3. May all of you prosper so that you dont need any discounts to buy stuff. LOL Happy Chinese New Year guys and gals.
  4. bahkuteh, you have been banned. It's pretty obvious to me with your avatar that you are just here to create problems - goodbye.
  5. Hey Tropicalrips your photography skills has come a long way since those early sim lim shots. Nice.
  6. Read the 1-year warrenty that comes with your product. If it does not state then the distributor has the right to either repair or replace.

  8. Okay let me tell u guys a true story. Back in the late 70s I became a customer of Atlas Hi-Fi (when the late Mr. Tien was running the show). At that time they sold stuff like Rogers Speakers and Amplifiers, Linn, Dual TT and VDH etc. I have been buying stuff from them since then (off and on). In the late 90s I got married and my wife twisted my arm to get the Bose Lifestyle series. She liked them very much (their looks). Of course in my home there lived a poor man's system (Thorens TT, Rotel RCD-855 RA-820BX4 Amp and a Cyrus 780. The Bose system was about 3 times the price. After hearing the bose for about a month, my wife told me how much better my room system sounds. When I told her the price of the Thorens/Rotel/Cyrus combo and the fact that this system was more then 7 years old, she asked what could make this system sound even better. So for my birthday she got me a Audiolab 8000. When I went back to Atlas the then old Mr Tien gave me wry smile and said, young man it's good that you tried to please your wife...when I told another of the Tien's that Bose sucks another of the Tien's remarked ah but for background music the Bose has got good looks. He too said it with a smile. So I kep buying Kimbers from them but never again a bose. BTW if you go to their workshop, you'll see the technician sweating under a mountain of Bose. And if you ever open one up you'll see how cheaply it's made. Their CD unit was basically a portable CDP (I kid you not). But I take my hat off to Mr. Bose He emigrated from India to the US and built a brand many think is German in origin. LOL

    digi01

Any one else? Huang Yong, what about you? Update, digi01 has not responded one way other the other so far. heady and loop, plese try one more time to communicate with him before I take appropriate action.
  10. Call them, make an appointment and go down on time. Sales people would be stupid to turn away a real customer who bothers to bring down his stuff to audition. Speaker cables wise you can try to get a pair of second hand Kimber 4 PR. You dont need fancy bananas or spades just bare wire ends. Just keep the bare wires clean and obviouly dont let there be any stray stands of wire.

    digi01

It has come to our attention thru reading some posts that some of you may have not received products or received refunds from digi01. I have sent digi01 a reminder and have given him till Sunday 28 January 2007 to respond. All those of you who are involved please post here. BTW Todate I have not received any reply from digi01 (it's been quite a few days already).

  13. This is more a question for the PC Audio section as your source is your computer via x-fi card (I dont know anything about this card) so hopefully people in this forum will be able to help you out. Having said that, here's the info you need to provide to get good answers. 1) Are you playing compressed music like MP3 from your HD or are you inserting CDs and listing to music. 2) What is the brand and model of headphone you have or intend to get? 3) What's your budget? 4) read this (I wrote it sometime back but it still applies) : http://www.sgheadphones.net/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=82
  14. Anyone else? Huang Yong what about you? Anyway, I have given digi01 till Sunday 28th Jan to respond to any issues with regard to this matter. So...you guys need to do your part like heady here, and inform us in this thread what outstanding issues there are. Please refrain from making rude comments about anyone. Just the facts please.
  15. rubbish, The contact number you provided to clemo leads to another person. Please verify within 24 hours. Your order has been temp. suspended. Clemo, you reserve the right to reject any orders on any ground you choose - within reason of course :-)
  16. FYI, I have sent digi01 a reminder to follow up on any refunds. Could all of you who have yet to get a refund please post here. Thanks Rameish
  17. loop, As to what's a fair price, that depends on demand and supply - globally, by reagion, by season. That doesnt make it unethical it just means the profit margin is larger. BTW I dont price anything as I'm not a dealer, manufacturer or distributor. Was Digi01 being unethical? I dont know as I am not aware of all the facts (or at least sufficient facts to have an opinion one way or the other). It is best at this point to resolve the matter with Digi01 (and he seems to be doing it in his post/reply to Huang Yong). If after a few weeks nothing happens then lodge a complaint. BTW heady how long has this been going on? Could you send me an email with what's been happening. I will then contact Digi01 myself on behalf of the members affected. BTW I'm doing this not in my role as mod but sorta like a senior statesman LOL. Digi01 if you're reading this, do not be offended - we need to resolve this and one way or the other without any more heated exchange of views.
  18. First off the mods of this forum have not, I repeat have not received any complaints from anyone - even huang yong - about digi01. Secondly, Digi01 dealings with Huang Yong are between a private buyer and a private seller. Huang Yong is free to post negative feedback if he so wishes in the relavent area. If anyone else besides huang yong has had a bad experience with digi01 please report it to us (mods or admin). loop, We live in a free market. Many things cost less China, the same China made product cost more in Hong Kong, and the same product cost even more in Singapore and other parts of SEA and in the US or Europe it's usually set at a much higher price. Sometimes as much as 3 to 4 times the price. So Digi01 is free to set his own price for the product. Having said that if Digi01 did indeed sell somthing to huang young claiming it's his own design and then subsequently sold huang yong some generic stuff that's a different matter alltogether. Huang Yong however has yet to send us (the moderating team) any complaints.
  19. Yeah I forgot about that! The remote control is great. It works even when you are in a differnt room and colse the door! But 3K for a remote? LOL Malls I'm sure dont pay retail and it's a slightly different system. Besides the "music" in malls is there to supress the noise level (from the shoppers).
  20. What are you trying to say Huang Yong? I find what you're suggesting offensive. And, did you report Digi01 to anyone?
  21. Dont get BOSE period. Need something small for the office? Get a mini-compo from Denon. Monitor Audio also sells a rather nifty iPod dock with amp and speakers. This will save you lots of money and you'll probably get the same sound. I dislike BOSE because of its sound - the bass is always seperated/disjoined from the mids and highs. For background music it's okay. This applies to the systems with a seperate subwoofer with sat speakers. If you're talking about the wave radio - that's not too bad but I would and have got a Tivoli Radio. BTW the parts inside it are of the cheapest quality. I have opened up one to take a look (although that was about 5 years ago).
  22. Sony V6 is also known as Sony MDR7056 (same thing). Havnt seen this headphone on the shelves lately. Sonic wise it's a little bright. Cheap and good headphone nevertheless. Just looked, amazon has it on sale at US$63.49 before shipping (brand new). Go and get it man. But the Beyer DT-150 is one hell of a closed headphone - u sure you donty want to save up and get that? BTW the Beyers need an amp whilest the Sony is quite happy being driven out a portable CDP. Dont know about your gear as it doesnt mention what's the built in amp specs.
