  1. I think i'll probably find a free day to go down to adelphi. Quite interested in the marantz stuff. And maybe cambridge audio.. Then maybe ill go take a look at best denki... Harvey norman doesnt interest me somehow. Lol
  2. gosh im confused again. So if you plug in only 2 speakers to a receiver that handles maybe 5.1 system then it only feeds the signal for left and right to the speakers but all the centre, surround left and right and all the bass for subwoofer is gone? Ive heard both stereo and surround before, but what i figured is that right now my room would be too small to place 5 speakers. So i'll make do with 2 speakers and probably add a subwoofer. Then in future(if my parents decide to move house and get me a bigger room in the new house) i can just add the centre and surround speakers to make it into a surround system. So, should i be getting a speaker amp first for a 2.1 system (can i add a subwoofer that way?) and in future upgrade the amp to a receiver for surround system?
  3. Oo.. So that means i should change direction to receiver, namely av receiver? What exactly is the difference in the audio section between receiver and amp? Also, whats the difference between connecting a laptop display through receiver onto a screen and from directly to a screen? Or is the video part only beneficial in terms of using blu-ray players, dvd players and such? But then again, we could connect dvd players direct to a screen, so whats the difference there? Thanks for the guidance, really appreciate it.
  4. oh. actually yea i do intend to get it second hand. but im not really sure of what to get. ive seen cambridge audio's 640 amp on extremeplace, how would that do? oh yes, when i said future-proof i just meant the output and input ports, should have enough ports for any other equipment i may add on in the future, before upgradetitis hits me and i upgrade the amp itself. oh, i see. okay, now that cleared up the cloud of question marks. so i guess i should be heading for integrated amp, since my budget is limited to get everything separately. i still have to take into account the cost of a DAC anyway... side-track: i was looking at v-dac and dacmagic. which one of these has a smaller footprint and sound-wise has a deeper depth of soundstage? also, i prefer tight bass and extended bass and trebles.
  5. hmmm seems interesting. but its a headphone amp? can it drive speakers? actually, what is the main difference between headphone amp and speaker amp? also, whats a pre-amp? thanks a lot for the help...
  6. Waw, gs1000. Something i can only dream of. er anyone who plays with speakers and such here? I remember ical having a large collection. Heh. Would like to ask what kind of speaker amplifier can complement, say, monitor audio's br2? Im intending to get a subwoofer for it too. It'll be a 2.1 system as its in my room, then when i move house 1 or 2 years down the road and i have a larger room, i'll expand it to 5.1 system. So the amp has to be future-proof also, my source would probably be ipod, laptop or ps3, not getting cdp yet, still deciding if i should. Oh yes, budget for amp would be 500-600, if its a dac+amp, then up to 850.
  7. and suddenly audio becomes more expensive when you're married. haha. thank god im still a student 0.0
  8. Yea i know, but if they offered a d1 plus headphone plus iem bundle, it would be a home rig and portable rig in a bundle isnt it?
  9. nice nice keep the bundles coming. why not the D1 with some high end iem such as um3x, se530, westone 3, etc. and a headphone like srh840, a900, etc? =D (ps. wld love to see smth liddat, will immediately bolt down to the nearest branch to buy. heh.)

    HELP!

Ah, thanks for the help yotiao. Im back.
  11. so in otherwords if assuming i get this i still need to have an external DAC?
  12. patience, my friend. the reward is worth the wait. i think. still contemplating whether to reshell my tf10. lol.
  13. hmm yes i heard of this news before.. but if i'm not wrong its still in the process of developing? anyway i believe the price will be perhaps then it'll be more worth it to get customs instead of reshelling. haha
  14. LOL. i laughed crazily when i read that. haha. nice translation skills. youngsters like me need to learn more hokkien. lol. anyway, help help? on my qn above =D
  15. nooooo dun be near to me... GO AWAY. BRING UR TT AND STAX AND WADEVA U HAVE AWAY FROM ME. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. may guan yin ma bless me. LOL. yay im no christian. no God for me.
  16. ah gosh u guys have epic stuff. hmm i wld like to enquire the old birds here.. if i'm gna start a little room rig, should i opt for passive or active speakers? if passive, what amp and what speaker, if active, what speakers? hehe. also i think i will need a DAC as im using my laptop as source... any reco? oh btw, budget would be about 1.5k to 1.8k for everything, and im looking to get 2.1 system for speaker as my room would be too small for 5.1 (sorta overkill to me) and if there are any leftover monies, i hope to invest in a little projector for movies with the sound system built. anyway, im not in a rush to purchase anything at all, so i just needa do some researching first. so if there are any future releases to look out for, do point me to em. =D
  17. hmm i shall ride on this ongoing discussion! Hey there, possible to give me a quote of how much it'll cost if i wanna do a reshelling of my TF10 and add a driver?
  18. do note that ad700 is larger than around the ears and an extreme chore to carry about, i would say more of a chore over the shures cos of its very rounded and bulky shape. Also, since its the open backed design, it will leak sound. not very suitable for outdoor use unless you wanna hear ppl's conversations and wanna 'share' ur music. i used to own the a700 for a short while, this was the close back version. the sound was great, enjoyed it thoroughly. but sold it off due to underusing. heh, may be getting myself home use headphones next year, maybe shures or audio technica stuff. haha. but then again, needa see if my wallet will be on strike cos i needa build home rig with speakers. wahahha. do update us when u get ur phones eh =D
  19. oo. didnt notice.. oops. so.. how bout the itouch?
  20. Hello guys, so i have an ipod touch 2g 16gb. i realised that my memory space was finishing soon, (5gb left, will be used up soon with my constant input of lossless songs) So i saw sven's mod on the nano in which he could replace a dead 4gb memory with a memory card. Is that possible on an ipod touch 2g? if so, is anyone able to help me do it?
  21. To me, i find that amping is pretty much based on your phones. For example, tf10 doesn't benefit much from amping. Though i do not know about the um1, i do know that for something as small and cheap as the e5 would not make much of a difference. In that sense, i feel that you would be better off without that extra bulk, however small that bulk may be. Also, sound is all that matters and Xinz has said it correctly, go listen to them to judge. Listen to some bassy tracks, some vocals, some songs with a lot of highs. This will help you to determine in which department of frequencies the phones fare well in. As for soundstage, pack some music of a live orchestra. After comparing with e5 and without e5 and deciding that you prefer it amped, compare it with a higher end amp that may be larger. If you cannot discern much of a difference between a higher end amp and the e5, then it would be pretty much set for you to get the e5. Otherwise, think twice about the purchase.
  22. For me, i would prefer a music server over CDP. IMO, the quality difference between CD and Lossless is too subtle to quantify the hassle to change CDs everytime i want to listen to another artiste or song. At the same time, with a music server, you get to shuffle songs, so perhaps you can listen to 2 different artistes one after the other. Also, it helps you to save physical space. (you could rip all ur CDs in, then sell away your cds, and do the same to future CDs. So all ur music are digitally saved into your server, and there is no need to spend money on a rack to keep your CDs) Forgot to add, if you do not wish to disturb your family, do not get the open cans, though these cans gives you a wonderful presentation of sound. Of course unless your family does not mind a lower volume of music coming from your ears. If i remember correctly, the DT990 was semi open, while HD650 and K701 are fully open.
