  1. Well there are lots of things going on in that particular song, i did say it sounded a mess initially on other headphones, just amazing to break everything into its perspective. No tricks really just purely undistorted sound and true to the recording.
  2. So anyway, did you notice the instrument separation on the Grizzly Bear Song, I've had used my vintage to get a hold of that song, but now the DT48A had brought it a good step up. That song on not so capable headphones gives injustice to it, meaning everything seems a mess. On the Cat Stevens song, I bet if you boost up the volume, you'd find what you're looking for, another possibility is to use a good powered desktop amp - tube type. And yes I think they have auto censorship on, lol. 9.5 over 10 is a great score, that's why I have 3 different DT48 now.....
  3. Nice review, why hasn't this been posted elsewhere? Pictures would be a nice addition. You didn't yet try the Grizzly Bear -Southern Point on them, you should. Btw guys in Singapore, whoever wants to try them out, just PM me. I have the Vintage DT48, the newer DT48A and coming soon Nagra DT48S.
  4. Turn off your irritating phone, close your eyes and just enjoy the music, take it from me, phone watching kills even your love life.
  5. Well at least we try to do the AB, and 30 secs? I find a part of the song (highlights maybe 10 secs) and play it over and over again, yeah look like a nut changing headphones in continuously quick successions, lol. I have certain test tracks for each frequency or where I found that some headphones can't particularly do well at, like example bass response if they have textured tones.
  6. So it''s been said that any audio tests have been far from successful, being that all were either guessing the difference and luckily got it right or truly could hear and differentiate them. A forum is supposed to be open to ideas and not a win lose situation, it's suppose to share experiences and knowledge, of course the reader should not believe everything written to be the end all. Tests should be made with your personal music source, a piece that you know inside out, being able to use that to judge for yourself what differences there are and come to a conclusion, but in the real world situation, blind tests etc, you can't do that and to make note while you go along is difficult.
  7. Were those guys protecting their space? I mean they should welcome another owner of the HD800 club even though he hasn't got a ß22 or a GSX, Everybody has a right to choose their poison, really don't understand them at all. Or is there another agenda altogether, lol.
  8. Not the only one who listens to all those genres, I listen to even more than those and 7 years is short compared to my 20+ years and I'm sure Dale has much more years than me on Stereos and Headgears, HD800 is sensitive enough to play from the iPod, why Dale has kept it a simple setup to my understanding is to avoid added colourations from amps, his iPod also goes with him wherever he goes and that is good when you use that to demo gears too. To gain a minute fraction in SQ compared to pricing is like betting on a quartet with 4 horses only.
  9. In any case the Goldring and the Vintage Pioneer are good cans to start with.
  10. The Goldring DR150 is not too bad it is touted to be like a HD650 but I tried and didn't think so, another would be the Philips SHP895 which is even cheaper but more linear
  11. Not really, if you compare 128kbps or lower recordings with Flac or 320kbps but of course compressed from the original CD, or even SACD. Compare them on that colored gear and you would find that they still sound good or fantastic, then there it is, but if you try the lower quality on linear gears, you will find that the recordings differ and may sound irritable and lacking.
  12. That mostly refers to colourations to give the wow factor, being said that makes all good or bad recordings sound fantastic, so its like adding a house sound no matter what. House sound as in inherent always.
  13. Here is a PDF that refers to the Audiophile, good read too. The Audiophile
  14. Am referring to the PX100 ii, veil can be removed by doing a quarter mod, that is cutting a hole in the middle of each pad cloth. or a Kramer mod, depending on the hole position, the veil mostly is some kind of sound filter. As in the case of HD650, the front and back foams are to be removed. edit, as for the IE8 so far no news, but good news is that while comparing my IE80 the veil is gone.
  15. What Dale and I are saying is that the recording is important, you need to be faithful to it, if it is good it sounds good, vice versa. So a colored gear will make that lousy recording sound good and normally with a U or V Eq. Bass and highs with mids recessed, some headphones/Amp create a spatial sound, which is abnormal for a certain recording, for lets say a studio recording. The Audiophile's creed is "To be faithful to the recordings".
  16. Haha Dale, It's really difficult nowadays to instill the True Audiophile agenda anymore, the majority want musically colored fantastic wow cans and the gears to go with that. We are dinosaurs, you know that song by Ke$ha "D-I-N-O-S-A-U-R a Dinosaur" lol. It just doesn't kick in to New Age Audiophiles anymore. Somehow basics just get lost along the way IMHO.
  17. Its not a debate to see who wins or loses, we are just sharing, thats what forums are for. Yes to each his own, I would have to agree as different agendas for everyone.
  18. That graph shows you how much DB you will need to attain for each frequency, so it should be read upside down. Do a sound sweep test on youtube and you will understand better.
  19. Please don't be offended, It's a good set of headphones, dark to me. Like the preference goes. Have you decided on the LCD3 yet? There is such a hoohah over the pricing right now. If you can PM me, I have a set of headphones that you might like and its cheap, dirt cheap.
  20. Well then it shouldn't be much of a problem there, as long as its not too much emphasized, a little colouration from a tube amp would be acceptable as it would sound dry, but then again the ultimate goal of a true Audiophile are is to listen to the most linear and purest form which is quite difficult to attain anyway imo. By listening to natural acoustic recording, you will notice that mids will always be the focal point and the highs and lows recessed in the background. Mid frequency are naturally more audible to human ears. Bass sound on a headphones should not have vibrations as compared to speaker bass, just the sound of say a 20 hz tone. @Alakazam, Warm and creamy sounds nice, that's just how I like my cuppa kopi. LCD2 too laid back for my taste cos I want front row seats or to be with the band. @Nekkrit, Thumping hmmm, have you tried fixing up the headphone amp output to an amp and a subwoofer? Actually thumping for me would point towards the midbass, if you EQ just around the 100hz region you would probably get what you prefer. Or just get Senns ii series, they all have that inherent.
  21. You know which I'm going to point at DT48A 5ohms and DT48 25ohm, of course the highly regarded DT48 Nagras which are impossible to attain, lol. Accuracy is key for True Audiophiles, not musically colored. They blow the likes of DT480 and DT150 and most other cans in terms of detail and accuracy on all frequencies. Etymotic ER4S and the Phoneks PFE comes closest as IEMS.
  22. Amplifying gets you more decibels on full-size HPs that have lower sensitivity and suspect that the bass is not getting enough power to perform as it does on a proper desktop, the IEMs are sensitive enough, what an amp does cleanly or with color is getting higher decibels albeit slight colorations, coloration is "Having timbres that are not true to life. Non flat response; peaks or dips" So it would be fuzzy if the bass overpowers the other frequencies. Wonder why would anyone want to do that?
  23. Yeah, the E7 does not amp much but adds lots of coloration, that was one amp i tested and didn't like at all.
