  1. update : i was reading this tread...again... when i got bored and decided to try Bram's mod i cut the track on the PCB & jumper the pins...sorry Jason i just had to try it but instead of using the LM6171 for the ground as Bram did, i used my OPA627 which was just rolled out from my desktop Cmoy (replaced with AD8610) now the amp has 3 of the most expensive op-amps AD8620 + AD8620 + OPA627 i left the Alcaps which were on the input side inplace, but the bass extension on this amp now is...mind blowing (with SR80) i still hav a pair of 30MFD Alcaps...wonder what effects they will hav on this amp
  2. i think this amp may be "picky" when it comes to op-amps...maybe due to its design? i find it sounding quite good when in its most basic/original configuration using opa2134. with my big alcaps on the input, the ad8620 sounds the best to me, with the 2228 sounding "weak" & 2134 sounds "muffered" hav u tried the 8620 on your modded version bram?
  3. according to some on headwise, the cable on the 595 can be modded, but hav to disassemble the driver housing, there's a custom type mini-plug hidden in the housing
  4. anyone knows if the cable on the 595 is removeable? it loks like its not... thinking of modding the cable
  5. the in-line jack & XLR jacks should be $5-8, can't remember how much i bought them...the stereo plug maybe around $5, never seen these from Neutrik, the first pic, case mount type...no idea, never seen them also
  6. the Kingston CF cards in SLS now are of slower speeds (2 mb/sec) which explains their low price, its the same with their Flash drive. Kingston has another type of CF card, "Elite" type which is about 10mb/sec, but i hav not seen them in SLS yet
  7. i think the most up-to-date PCB/schematic is on page 4 there are currently 3 amps built with the first pre-production PCB, all 3 built by different people i hav tried the one by Bpribadi, has very good separation & bass, even on a $40 "no brand" headphone i believe the 3 amps will hav quite different sound signatures from each other when we get the chance to A-B them together. for the kit, not sure when it'll be release, there's still a problem of quantity...how many can we actually make...need to wait for jason to finalise.
  8. Hung Bros now has DIY cables for sale done by the younger Hung, Neutrik 3.5mm right-angle jacks. i remember its $14 list, i saw him doing the cables for the past few days, not sure if he's done any mini to mini ones
  9. the MAX chip works well for single 9v amps, has 80mA output here's the site with the details MAXIM MAX4167
  10. thanks the MAX chip sounds similar to AD823, i managed to burn this chip on the adaptor i forgot the chip is 2.5 - 5v rated, i see smoke from the op-amp when i placed it into my clone now the chip is in op-amp heaven but i hav 1 more left
  11. attempted Bram's method of making the adpator today it was harder then i thought bought the pins from SLT Sunlight 3th floor, i think the trick is to do the 4 center pins first, then adjust the 4 outer pins. here's the result the op-amp is a MAX4167 (sample) Bram, did u use some kind of studio lighting to take your shots? they look really good
  12. the Klotz cables that i use are all microphone cables
  13. not confirm yet jason, is your Cmoy2 ready?
  14. Porn pics the amp can also be powered with 2 * 9V batts, but there's no charging circuit build into the amp, the switch is a 3 way type, so the AC & batt power does not cross each other changed the volume pot from an Omeg to Alps, headphone jack to 1/4" PM me for price and details, price is negotiable
  15. build this blue case desktop amp some time ago, selling it to make space for new amp (below) it was at the recent meet, but some of the components had since been upgraded i hav added a DC jack to the amp, so now it can be powered by an AC/DC convertor 12V - 15V A47 configuration, with 5uF Solen caps at the input, opa2134 for gain & JRC4556 as buffer, gain is 6
  16. Neutrik + Klotz mini to mini interconnect i find the black casing Neutrik mini plugs harder to work with then the silver ones...the soldering part was easy (same as silver type plug), problem was when i try to put the whole thing together, it just won't screw in, i think this is casue by the black color plating of the case, i had to use a plier to grip on the case to screw it in, i think u can see the scratch marks left by the plier, the silver case plugs screws together easily, i think i'll stick to the cheaper silver plugs from now on seen here with my buffered Cmoy in mini-me case as u can see the Klotz cable is almost as big/thick as the plug, u'll need to strip off about 2 lengths (using the plug's case as guide) of cable to get enough cable though the case to work with, remember to keep the striped off insulation cause u'll need to use it to cover the expose cable when u close the plug, this is why i use shrink-wrap, its to hold the reattached insulationon the cable N@Z, the plugs are $5.50 (silver type) & $6.50 (black type) jtfoo, i don't hav part no. for the Klotz, but i think there's only 1 type thats stereo for Klotz, actually it says "professional microphone cable" on the cable itself, there's also a blue color one, the other type of Klotz cable i hav is mono for my mixer bram, for straight mini plugs of higher grade, i use something call "Eanare" no sure how to pronouce this it has a case that almost the same size as a 1/4" plug, also bought from Hung Bros, this will fit the Klotz cable nicely
  17. update : upgraded the transformer + changed the caps on the amp board to Panasonic
  18. very nice layout, simple and neat can i follow your layout?
  19. i ran out of the mini plugs but i intend to do one more tonight, getting the plugs today, this time going to get the gold plating with black casing type
  20. i bought the pro-fi & Klotz cables some time back, used them on my mixer, can't remember how much they cost, will check tomorrow. all these stuff bought from Hung Bros in SLS
  21. been doing a lot of DIY work today with talk of a possible mini meet, i thought i better prepare my interconects, changed all of them to Neutrik with Klotz cables Neutrik right-angle mini plugs + Klotz + Neutrik Pro-fi RCA connectors Neutrik right-angle mini plugs + Klotz + Neutrik 1/4" locking jacks (springs removed) the whole package with Cmoy2 & HD595 i also did a minor upgrade to my desktop Cmoy today, still waiting for the new transformer, will post pics when its done
  22. back from SLT, found the Sony SRF-S84 list price $59, lowest price i got was $55...is it a good price?
  23. i'll most likly be in SLT tomorrow to look for those small caps and also to stock up on some resistors i hav also ordered a new transformer from farnell for my new amp, should be here tomorrow i'll go look for the sony SRF-S83/S84, i don't see them in SLS, only see lots of mp3 players i think SLT will hav more radios
  24. weekdays is also fine with me except monday, my off day i don't take dinner in SLS i need to be in the shop...can we do it in the shop? u guys can hav dinner first without me
  25. i working on weekends but if u guys want to meet at my shop thats ok its less crowded after 7pm, we open till 8.30pm let me know the confirmed date so i can bring along my amp too. anyone else interested? Jason?
