  1. u can look at my i'm still testing the cha47 which is very similar to the cmoy. i took a better pic of my second cmoy hope it will help u
  2. noted jtfoo, but will the sound be better or still the same with the buffer? the specs sheet for the BB OPA134 family has a OPA4134, its a 4 channel op-amp 14-pin dip, should be able to use this for the cha47 design rite? this will make the wiring neater cause no need to jumper the power for second op-amp if i do go the buffer path, i will need 2 buffer chips for stereo rite i'm thinking of trying the opa2134pa (abt $5 /pc) which is cheaper then the 2132pa tangent says this chip sounds the same as the 2132s only not as stable. so if the buffers can giv better sound, then all i need to do is get it to work with the opa2134pa and the cost will still be about the same as using 2 opa2132pa
  3. is it possible to use a buffer chip in the cha47? like the BUF634P or BUF634U will the circuit still be the same?
  4. saw this in Hung Bros, there are other designs in the same series, very cool looking
  5. yes kenshinz, but now i only buy resistors and caps from them & the 9v batt clip the other shops hav a different type of batt clip that breaks easily. the stereo jacks that i'm using now cost $1 each, they are not the PCB mounted type, its a slighty better one i got from SLS i go to silicon cause they hav full range of 1% resistors and the shop is easier to move around don't go to the shop on the basement, they try to sell me the same 25v 470uF caps for $1.20, i got them on the 3th floor for $0.40 (a few shops from silicon) now i'm trying some "kiau su" caps 25v 470uF +105c it has a gold color band on the side, the lady said she brought in these for the amp builders, they call them gold caps. at least thay look different from the others but $2 each anyone knows if using 1/2 watt resistors will improve the sound? now all my amp are build with 1/4 watt resistors
  6. my GPs didn't cut off in the cmoy, it just got distorted now testing with cha47 & micro cmoy, but i think the results should be same as cmoy
  7. i still hav the Hudson's candy in my fridge i think i'll call it Herbal Micro Cmoy HMC16 (16v caps)
  8. how does it smell? jaugar or rolls-royce
  9. found the case for the micro Cmoy looks cute rite? Jtfoo, i don't hav Grados to test it on, but i did try the hd570 on the cmoy with lower gain and it got very distorted, guess thats what u ment? Sipher, sorry i couldn't take pic of the back of my cha47, forgot that i already hot-glued it to the case i got most of the components from Silicon #03-02 SLT, the op-amps & rail-spilter from Federal #02-06 SLT, the new gold caps i'm using is from Bytetron #04-04 SLS still don't know how long the batt last, hav been running it for about 2-3hrs now one more thing guys, which one of the op-amp is acting as the buffer? the one further from the power caps? i hav 2 different op-amps, OPA2132pa & AD823 (2 of each) what will be a better combination, which one to use as buffer? now i'm using both AD823 in the cha47
  10. i'll take it tonight, but theres nothing there all my jumpers are on top
  11. 1.my batt is a GP rechargeable 2.as for the holes, i just use a cordless drill, u will need to drill it a few times starting with a smaller drill bit because the tin box is too thin, using a big drill bit will just bend the box 3.i tried laying the 9v on its side but its too high, can't cover.2 batts should be no problem in this box with a cmoy, for cha47 will need to re-layout the components, i'm thinking stacking the PCB or maybe hav the second op-amp at the bottom to reduce the space its taking up i think once i figure out how to jumper the power to the second op-amp the wiring should be neater, u can see that the power has to cross each other it took me a hr to finally giv-up and use jumper wires has anyone tried this design before? i can't really hear the difference in sound for this compare to the cmoy it still works when i take out the second op-amp rite? or did i get it wrong
  12. bought new caps in SLS, the lady said its audio grade "gold caps"
  13. i think we were all confused by the r2 & r3 on the cmoy design there are 2 sets of it, first set is for the power side to divide the voltage, it should be 4.7k for r2/r3 the original drawing labels them as r1 the second set is for the imput/output signal side, this is what i use : r2 = 100k r3 = 2k (original design is 1k, but i find the gain too high, and it cause a lot of hissing when use with low ohm headphones) r4 = 10k r5 = 43ohm (i tried values 43-47-50 with higher values the low ohm cans hav less hiss, but it makes the higher ohm cans sound softer) hope this helps u
  14. tied out the cha47 layout on the proto-board, it sounds good now with low impedance phones, no more hiss with 16ohm cheap-po testing earphones i change the gain resistor to 3k instead of 4.7k for more gain on higher impedance cans does that mean its longer a "***47" i think this tread is getting too long, can we make it a sticky? so it will be easier for others to find & learn
  15. me not electronics, me electrical so is it a transistor or voltage regulator? also what is the round thing with 4 pins? the parts list i saw "bridge" is that it? i'm not sure what is single power supply, but the lady did ask me if i want + or - so she can chose the "3 pin thing" for me do u mean c2,c3 huangyong? so it can drive headphones?
  16. i hav 2 spare opa2132 op-amps, i think i will use those first, i found "hudson's" mint tins they look quite good too has a retro look they look a little longer then the Altoids that should giv more room for the Cha47. by the way why is it call "cha47" anyway if i add my own design to it can i call it "rip47"
  17. got this from link posted by Jtfoo, the drawing is only showing 1 side of the circuit rite? so i just follow the same path for the other side? i take it that the power side is still the same as the Cmoy will different op-amps work?
  18. i went to look for those mint tins, but nowadays the mints all come in recycled cardboard boxes maybe i can build it into a cigarette box "lucky Strikes Cmoy" or "Malboro cmoy"
  19. should still hav space for the led & volume pot, maybe add them later. this one sounds louder, is it due to the volume pot? Kenshinz its more fun to build your own la , i saw your almost finish cmoy before, it should be ok rite? just need to get those resistor values to match your headphone then no more hissing, should also get 1 or 2 more op-amp to test, i do it on one of those solderless proto-boards to test the values
  20. Yup, so the Apheared47 or CHA47 should be the next logical project for Tropicalrips. how much different is the Apheared47/CHA47 from the Cmoy? i hav completed the micro Cmoy with case, can't find a nice case for it so decided to put it in the smallest one and run external power
  21. can't find them in SG...they are closed monitor phones, and this model is one of the highest in that family (i think there is another A1000 above it) hav u seen it here?
