  1. i already hav 5 cmoy sitting on my desk liao not counting the proto-board one the first one was a failure that kill the first op-amp, i keep it to remind me what i did wrong, the rest hav slightly different components, but the final one i'm using daily will be the one i'll follow for other "improvements" i hav put in a rail-spilter (TLE2436) & use AD823 op-amp for my final layout, can't really tell the difference between this and the first sucessful cmoy toady i got to try the micro cmoy one a HD580 in SLS, it has no problem driving the 300ohm cans the guy in the shop was impressed
  2. it sounds the same i think, the mini may hav a little more bass impact then the micro because of the bigger caps but i think its just a psyhological effect
  3. one more pic of the back, no jumper wires now to find a case for it
  4. hav some extra parts so thought i try this micro Cmoy with gain of 6, it does hav enough space for the R5, tried it with my HD-570 no problem
  5. i will try laying the caps on their side so they can fit into the Cmoy case, will this cause problems? there is still a lot of room left on the basic cmoy board layout, going to try and make use of them
  6. the kit cost $11.50 the output u hav to chose different transistor for the voltage u want, i think the transistor is $0.80 the nice lady in the shop will help u decide i think she also know a lot about DIY audio stuff saw a lot of Tube-Amp audio stuff there all kit form
  7. those big Elna caps only $0.20 each. anyone know why they are so cheap? i bought the one in the middle for $0.80 each they are the same spec only different size
  8. bought the regulated power-supply kit today, took about 1/2 hr to build the whole thing now to figure out what to do with it
  9. its 43ohms sorry i hav tried 43 & 47ohms, don't seem to hav any effect on the porta-pro slight different with those low impedence phones, went with 43 cause i hav a 16ohm Koss plug
  10. its a shop call Bytetron Electronics 4th floor SLS #04-04 in the back lanes, first shop in the corner, they hav a lot of audio DIY stuff found my blues alps there. can also get DIY kit for tube amp the kit above is no. 87 can find it on this site Kits R Us i intend to mod this kit, put in a VU meter (kit.89) & regulated power supply (kit.60) super-charged Cmoy
  11. found this in SLS today the layout looks very close to a Cmoy, but with some things missing like input caps its ment to be an amp for speakers i think, but maybe can be converted into headphone amp? the kit comes with a TDA2822 is this also an op-amp? all the components are included price $13 anyone tried this before?
  12. to me they sound alike (px200 vs SBCHs900) but i couldn't hear the 200 properly so i could be wrong, also when i tried the px200 it was without the Cmoy, but i did try the 900 without amp too, i can't really tell the difference between the 2 so i guess the 900 is a better buy due to its price in terms of bass...its there just a little behind the porta-pro, i say its a good phone for the techno crowd, with a classical track it sounds as good as the porta, with the px200 i can hear alot of noise from outside the phone no kenshinz i did not buy it just test it at Hung Bros, the joints are not filmsy, they are made of a softer plastic then most phones, i pull off the headphone with 1 hand and it did not break they are also comfortable to wear
  13. the philps had more isolation the px200, i think its because they hav a better fit on my ears, the px200 felt lose, i hav to press them against my head to hear what they sound like the only thing the px200 had over the philips is weight, its lighter. @ $59.90 the Philips would be a better buy, even though they are not as portable as px200
  14. tried it today in SLS i prefer these cans then the PX100/200, retail price $59.90 good bang for bucks headphone, sounds better then my ATH-FC7 (same price) has good controlled bass & details, more bright then the FC7
  15. need to ask the electronics people about this i'm electrical background just know how to follow the drawings i'm also using a cheapo volume pot in my cmoy, the blues alps is to prepare for the bigger amps update on my Cmoy: change R5 to 43k bought 2 Elna caps (25v 470uF size 40% bigger then others) bought 2 0.47uF caps for the input tested the caps on a proto-board, sounds good, more impact (just a little ) the 50k R5 had funny effects on different headphones (tried on new philps SBCHS900 it sounded very soft) 43k more optimal i think

    Black CD-Rs

still can find in SLS got to know where to look
  17. sounds rite jason anyone with another theory? so the 2 9v design is not safe? and it works best only when the batts are matched?
  18. a fren of mine has it, he says its very good for classical or jazz music, but if u r into the pop/techno & electronica stuff u will be dissapointedwith this headphone
  19. yes this will slove all the problems anyone know where can buy? i already hav the basic design layout for the whole unit, can get the case from SLT, they hav those that look like a power amp...they should fit the CD-Rom and i can get an ITX psu from SLS, its just right size to fit into the case. theres a shop in SLS that has a lot of audio DIY kits, thats where i found the ALPs volume pot, will ask them if they hav something like this tomorrow
  20. yes R5 i think the original design calls for a 40 or 47 ohm resistor, i bought the 50ohm to test something, thought they should work too so kenshinz u change your resistor values yet? my original hissing problem was not from the headphones, cause with this new board i didn't hear any hiss when used with the porta-pro, only the Plug can hear hissing as they are only 16ohm. now even the cheapo earphones from the mp3 player sound like a sony one more thing...can the Cmoy be bias into class A
  21. just added in 2 50ohm resistor on the Cmoy, they are on the out-put side just before the headphones. i was hearing some soft hissing sound during the quiet parts of the music when used with low impedance Koss plug, kind of like an old record the 50k did the trick, no more hiss with the plug it also reduced the volume a little, had to go from mark 22 on the mp3 player to 30, sounds good with the porta-pro. hav to see if this reduced the batt life, the previous setup last abt 3-4hrs from the first charge
  22. i'm using the GP 9v 170mAH with the mouse charger as well, measured the batt at just over 9v from the first charge (abt 14hrs) that first batt just die today, it lasted abt 3 days thats abt 3 to 4 hrs of play-time on my Cmoy i measure the voltage at 8.5v the Cmoy was sounding distorted at that voltage, the menu from the charger says it will reach full performance after 4 or 5 charges now to try the second batt can i get the Plainview 9v batts locally?
