  1. u mean hold the flash and point it at the floor? i think direct flash with the head turn to slightly left or right might also work "sock mod" N@Z can get a tayler to make the diffuser for u, a sock might absorb too much of the flash, the diffuser i hav seems to be made from the kind of material they use for studio lights
  2. some fruits after dinner also taken with diffuser retook the friuts pic cause the pineapple color looked a bit off its a day old...the first pic made it look "fresh"
  3. here are the shots of my dinner taken with diffuser i took a series of with/without for comparison the camera setting remained unchanged though the sequence, no retouch was done, just conversion to jpeg the sequence is as follow : 1) direct flash without diffuser 2) bounce flash without diffuser 3) direct flash with diffuser 4) bounce flash with diffuser shots 2,3,4 looks ok with only minor difference, the first shot with direct flash without diffuser looks under expose, seems like the camera reduce the strength of the flash inorder to reduce the "harshly lit" that u were talking about N@Z
  4. the shots with the white elephants...the last pic in that post (audio mixer) was taken with the diffuser, without it the silver metal would hav over expose i'll take some shots with direct flash + diffuser
  5. here's what the diffuser looks like, its not somthing i made, bought it from camera shop @ $10 the meterial feels like nylon, i think its the same as what they use for umbrellas u can see that the back/1 side is black, thats the side with the reflector with diffuser on the flash, it looks weired but it works
  6. i think the best option would be to use the flash as a remote, this will close the distance. i hav a diffuser thats made of cloth/fabric type material, it has a reflector inside that stops the flash from escaping to the back when doing bounce, u can slip on the diffuser the other way round and hav less light firing to the front i think the fabric material lets though more light then the plastic one, but still does its job of diffusing the flash when firing directly at the subject
  7. pic of the Cmoy 2 PCB has a better finish then the first few prototypes
  8. i think that shops name is Sunlight, they are friendly, can find most of the stuff there. if u can't find certain items can also look for me in SLS, i hav a few of the items in the shop...can also giv "special" price for the digital multimeter p.s. i'm not around on mondays
  9. the "elephant shot" in the morning for comparison there's a little lens flare on the top left area (forgot to bring lens hood ) i think for this shot the cir.PL filter would hav come in handy, the sky is a little burnout auto contrast in Nikon editor RAW - ISO200 - WB sunlight +1 shot this one for fun crop out the man walking by my shot using Nikon editor i also did some macro test with the kit lens, but the result was not very good, need a macro lens for DSLR to hav good macro shots
  10. i did not hav the color problem on my PC, but i found when i view the RAW files at full screen the color, details and focus were all out, at first i thought it was the pic that i shot, but when i view the same pic in Nikon capture editor, it was ok with Jpeg everthing was ok even at full screen
  11. QOO, the cir.PL is Vitacon, i don't think the problem is with the filter, maybe just the light conditions of that day, and also me being not familar with camera settings yet. the shots just don't look "alive" this was one of the better shots shot in Jpeg, large file - fine quality took this tonight with the slik monopod shot in RAW shutter speed 1/4 ISO 400 f-stop 4.5 i'll try the same shot tomorrow morning for comparison i just check today on price of 2GB CF, almost $300 & no ex-stock, only back-to-back order, a 4GB micro drive is about $600++ i hav in my shop a USB drive thats 4GB retail @ $299, i hav open up 1 piece and guess what...its a micro drive!! tried in the D70 but got "CHAR" error on the LCD. its a voltage problem, even after formatting the drive it still won't work, the 4GB microdrive is from Magicstor, it seems there's 2 versions of this drive...a 4.4GB CF-II that has 3.3/5v and the other is 4GB ATA which is 3.3v only the one from the USB drive is the ATA version which could explain the cheaper price, anyone has any ideas on how to get this 3.3v microdrive to work in a camera? below is the Magicstor website magicstor
  12. the new PCB is ready for sale from 3pm tomorrow price is $10 per PCB, those interested can PM me for details will post pics of the PCB at a later date
  13. actually the higher F-stop and a little zoom at around 35-50mm should giv me a blur background, but there must be enough light bracketing is quite fun too for AE bkt, u'll need to set to continous shot, the camera takes 3 shots with different exposure. with AWB bkt, the camera only needs 1 shot, but u'll end up with 3 shots with different white balance what filters do u guys use on the D70? i hav a circular PL for the kit lens, but the result don't seem as good as my Olympus with cir.PL outdoor shots. i still stick to a UV filter on the kit lens
  14. thanks for the tips Bram how often do u guys bring out your tripods? so far i only used my tripod for macro shot with the C8080 and once for night shots in Clarke Quay i shoot mostly on the move, on my way to work and on the way back going to try the monopod tomorrow night at Albert Court
  15. i downloaded the Faststone viewer and resizer, both very useful thanks Bram the viewer is faster then the Nikon software for RAW files
  16. so our fearless leader will be the first to own the "big gun" the shots look good N@Z, i really like the chrome in my "green" shot, the HDB was under sunlight while the trees were in the shade, i should hav used a higher F-stop and blur the background
  17. the D70 club needs more members Bram..."feel the force of D70...don't fight it...become #5 bram..."
  18. i'm finally trying the RAW format seems to hav more details...or is it just me the teddy shot was taken in jpeg medium size-fine quality but it did giv me the green that i was looking for auto contrast in Nikon software, resize in Elements
  19. here's my shot using the SB600 as remote the flash i actually behind me for this shot makes the pic softer, nice details no retouch done just resize in Elements
  20. the lounge area is becoming a camera forum i counted a total of 5 camera treads i like the silver/black Olympus, its a shame they stop making those, the newer film SLR from Olympus all look like space-ships or laser pistols
  21. ok, thanks Rameish but the price of the FM-10 is very tempting ($350) will look for other mechanical cameras, but it seems there's not many around any more
  22. very nice exposure and colors N@Z what did u use as the backdrop? i'm waiting for my 50mm 1.8, wanted to get it today but they ran out of stock, hav to wait till friday also check price for Nikon FM-10, $350 for the kit but no warranty, i think its NOS (new old stock)
  23. i'm interested pm me the details
  24. looks like i hav to rewatch the original movie is the year which the 2 stories are based on the same?
  25. i'm also considering going back to film & manual cameras, now looking at the Nikon FM-10 & FE-10 these should be good for practice, will help improve skills when using the more advance D70 when conditions are not as good
