  1. I dunno abt you, but I like the old QED airloc bananas. The ones that are actually clamped permenantly rather than screwed on, forming a kind of cold solder. Got them from that cable shop in SLS for about $6 each, eons ago. I heard you can get new models from adelphi, KEC i think.
  2. OMG a fan! *bows* I'm not worthy. Thanks for reading, seriously you just made my day!!! HWM has always been a magazine about tech toys for boys (and girls). And audio equipment is definitely a strong part of it. There isn't a special section per se, and we're definitely not a hifi mag, but I try what I can to push for interesting gear that I would personally like to listen to . Ironically, ONE month before I started writing for them, 3 of the lucky btards got to have a audition session with the Senn Orpheus, serial no. 152. It helps that the guys are musicphiles too. Chris PS. Ok. reviews don't really lie...all the time
  3. Don't believe everything you read in reviews. And don't believe everything you hear in shops. Reviews lie, and listening rooms are optimised to show off the system. Don't be surprised to find the equipment sound different when you bring it home, or it doesn't sound an iota like what you read in the review. The best thing to do is get a home audition or listening to it at a friend's place, failing that, you'd have to settle for listening to it at the showroom. Of course the best way to audition a CD player's qualities is actually to bring your headphones and headamp. That would always remain a constant, and then you can pick up how each CD player actually sounds. Chris PS. Reviews don't really lie....but they can't be trusted. I know that for a fact.....
  4. I love their old stuff, but not so much their new stuff. I found this DVD on gramaphone's shelves a while or two back. It was the only copy, so of course I bought it. On the DVD, there is this interview with a kinda of radio/acoustic type set which is pretty awesome. link from here
  5. Sennheiser MX500s (not the 550s) and you can even get them in white now. bang for the buck. (abt $30)
  6. Natalie Merchant, KD Lang, Cowboy Junkies, Sade, Dave's True Story
  7. In the Time before Llamas totally blows away The Trinity Sessions. Whilst the Trinity Sessions may have the rawness of the early CJ, and the lovely church acoustic, In the Time Before Llamas has CJ at their best in a intimate acoustic setting, beautifully recorded by BBC. Bought it a gramaphone, but have not seen it on the shelves of late. IMO, this is the best Cowboy Junkies album I own (and yep, I have them all, cept this new one....haven't had time to go down and buy ) Amazon Link
  8. you can buy pocketdocks in singapore. at SLS. 6th floor. at a shop called maclink they cost $59
  9. images from Amazon Just bought these two from gramaphone. very very good....
  10. I can't agree with you more. I bought the ipod mini 6gig after I reviewed it. and it stayed on the shelf for 6 months...and now the nano is out. hopefully, I'll get it next tuesday at the launch. I can honestly say, I'm not going to buy the nano..... for now. I think they will come out with a 6 and 8gb. and I will wait to buy the 8gb model. btw. the ipod mini is now a collectors item. it is no longer for sale. the nano REPLACES the mini...entirely.
  11. tuesday official launch. I'll be there
  12. I bet you're from the creative mkting dept, and you registered this account just to post this. that's sad... why don't you tell creative to fix the zen micro battery problems before trying to sell an 8gig one. btw, I would buy the zen micro 8gb, then rip out the CF card and throw the rest of the crap away. Save your money, buy an iriver h10.

  16. Hi Sorry, I wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the classifieds. I recently got my hands on a pair of AKG K240 15th anniversary edition. Am thinking of buying them off the current owner, what would be a fair price to offer him? It's quite old, but in good condition, plug is oxidised (but easily fixed), no box, and he doesn't have the mini-1/4 adapter (small matter) I think it's the 600ohm model. He cant' remember how much he paid for them, and I tried googling it to no avail. If I'm not wrong, hungbros is selling the 240 studio for abt 380. Does anyone know how much they cost when it came out? I don't want to offer too much and at the same time, I don't want to pay him too little. What's fair? Thansk very much Chris
  17. Hi! Have you considered building a NON-OS dac? kinda like this http://www.diyparadise.com/dacs.html design is based on the uber expensive one from 47labs.
  18. Hey Guys. I'm looking to buy a pair of E1 or E1Cs. Willing to pay up to $150 dependant on condition. Please PM me if you have a pair that you're willing to let go. Thanks Chris
  19. Everything but the girl - Acoustic very old album, but I just picked it up on CD. awesome stuff. Tracy Thorn's vocals are brilliant. some original EBTG stuff and some covers. My favourite track is Come on home, beautiful song about asking for a loved one to come home. photo from amazon
  20. If you like Miles.... also look out for John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Art Tatum, Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington...to name a few. This is REAL jazz, with funky scales and off-beat timings, played with soul. The sh*t you see now listed under "jazz" is more commercial, easy listening standards. I hate'em, all these new "artists" keep singing the same old songs over and over and over to make a quick buck. Granted the original standards are nice, but some of the current covers are just overdoing it. Chris
  21. Yo Mackie!! How did the BM5's sound? It looks mighty good in the press picture. alot better than the old BM5, with the off-align tweeters. looks almost like the AIR speakers. must take a visit down to Peakfusion soon.
