  1. Very futuristic and innovative, much like the Meridian digital speakers.
  2. Nice compilation of her hits, especially like Soak Up the Sun
  3. Very well recorded performance of this favourite classical piece on period instruments. You can hear the body of the instruments as the bow is drawn. Includes 2 other concertos. I got the SACD hybrid version.
  4. Bach's Goldberg Variations. Very emotionally charged performance. I heard this the first time when another audiophile visited and since have been hooked. Even for those of you who do not really know much about classical music, even if you play this in the background, your family and friends will look up and ask about it.
  5. Mackie, another year older and wiser Happy BD
  6. Just read the Cyber 20 review and I can understand the reviewer's enthusiam for the amp. During the last meet, the Cyber 30 really did shine, as did the Consonance CDP.
  7. Sorry lah, couldn't catch your nic.
  8. Scriberex is doing a powerbuy for the Jan Meier HD600/650 replacement cable in the classifieds. Maybe you shd consider joining in.
  9. The philips can be modded to produce very good music for those of you on a budget.
  10. As a general rule for 2nd hand sales, once its out the door, no returns entertained. That's why the Caveat Emptor "buyer beware" came about. Test it all you want, but once you're parted with your money, the contract is completed. The buyer could have damaged it in transit, or blew something during hook up, but that is not your responsibility. Especially for 2nd hand goods, where there is no warranty(unless it is transferrable).
  11. Mackie : Thanks for the initiation to cans. Already burnt a good hole, but worth it. Thinking of modding the Melos next, after my pocket recovers.
  12. My dad has a NAD 302 tuner which he doesn't use, pm me if you are interested.
  13. Thanks all for the well wishes! More gear? I already pre-bought my present (ATH W100)
  14. As someone who goes to Adelphi pretty often, I'm puzzled by the comments about being intimidated by Adelphi. Why do you feel intimidated? Is the shopowner unfriendly? Do they refuse auditions? The shop is dark?
  15. Use RA-1 for walkman? You're kiddin rite? I stand with Rameish on MP3, if you are serious about music, stick with CDs or hi-res digital. In addition, with cans you can get so much detail which most spk setups cannot. Further follow up on the SR80s : went west and tested them with the "yellow pads", which not only improve on comfort, but do enhance bass(slightly). Definitely worth getting. For further details, check with Rameish. The one thing about the Grados, is because of its high efficiency, it imparts a sense of liveliness to the music. Nova, do drop by MBD and have a listen for yourself with your own CDs. Of course remember that they are using pretty high end equipment for their source. It does however, give you an idea of what can be achieved with the Grados with the right equipment.
  16. Argh so near and yet, so far
  17. Nope. Your room has too much absorption and too little reflection of sound.
  18. Just want to relate my experience with the SR80s. I borrowed them from my neighbour and tested them out with the Melos and a Yamaha RX-V1400(new AV receiver) and it sounds good, no in fact, very good with both. I even thought the Yamaha did a better job at driving the SR80s and this is a AV receiver(a very fully equipped one at that). Soundwise, my brief run down on it is, its transparent, reveiling of its source. The open cans gives a slightly more distant soundstage, still with lots of detail. Its not full bodied type of sound, as the bass is a little light-weight. However, it does go low and hits those notes, just that you won't think its a disco. In this respect, not recommended for bright sounding sources or cables. For the price, it represents excellent value. My only complaints are : slightly bass light, not too comfortable(but not uncomfortable), cable is short.
  19. So who is the lucky new owner?
  20. Hi guys just want some inputs/advices from you about cans in that price range, for use in HT setup. Preferrably something which doesn't require amplification, ie a low impedence design. Would the Grado SR60 fit the bill?
  21. Guys, so how did the shot out go? The amps inputs are only digital(?). More details pls.
