  1. Correct. Usually when mastering an audio for moving visuals, we would fine tune the mid and the highs to get the correct effect we want, do some reverbaration and add some fake sense of space for the viewer when mixing different sources of live recordings and follies. this is done without monitoring the lower frequncies too much. Following up will be the adjustment or addition of lower frequency tones/follies to the track to give that sense of pace and rhythm.. it seems that bass has an effect on adrenelin.. and the trick to making any moving visuals more alive is Always in the bassline. I don't like it this way, but this has always been what the client likes.. damn the BASS! Lol From this, I realised many people judge a piece of music by the lower frequency's ability to emote hence the preference for warmer sounding equipment.

Do note, when I put on the phones, the headband sits quite tightly on my head with the cups positioned over my ears. if your head is too big, the phones would be too small.. my head's relatively large so it shouldn't be a problem for most people (lol, i wear a size 7 1/2 head dress in the army) I've not heard the 26p but the k81 is really bassy and thick. You might not like it.. but removing the inner sponge (just pull it out) help tighten and lessens the bass a bit. Why not try it at stereo first with your source? Amping it with pa2v2 via lineout, against headphone out, there wasn't any improvement, because of it's bass. It's probably the design on the cups which is why amping won't improve the sonic, in fact it made the bass more forward when what you might want is to tame it. But once you are outdoors, the bass is a welcome in noisy environments

Sound is good for the price, except the bass is at ritcher 8!! If you don't like bass, dun get it. I hated it for jazz & lounge, but put in some electronic, and it sings. It's a DJ phone so it's great for beat mixing and monitoring.. did a tweak I read at headfi's k81 thread and it help tone down the bass abit. For it's price, it's one of the best sub $200 close headphone. PS, dun bother amping this phone. it's great just as it is and doesn't improve on amping.

stereo might have them. Got it for $120 there abouts.. call them to ask as I took the last piece quite some time ago. You can call up asia sound to ask, or check with hung bros. I know Asia sound has them but since they quoted me higher than both hung bros, which didn't have stock, I bought the last available piece from Stereo instead.

Hmm, sounds a little like my flavour!! If you guys don't like it, I'll take it from ya!!
  7. Well, my benchmark for neutral is the sound I get when I played my materials in the recording studio at my workplace via the monitor speakers. I am very used to that "neutrality" which I work with at the mastering studio. I did audition some amps and headphones and the AKGs 701 driven from the output of the emu & mixer at work were the closest in terms of what I term as neutral. Now the thing is I'm A/Bing it to speakers in a soundproof room, so it's impossible to expect that soundstage that why I'm looking for some crossfeed circuit in the amp. *ps my neutral is probably somewhat sterile, clean kind of sound? But I would like a little more airiness in the music. (I kinda like to hear my music as if I was in a quiet park, light and airy.... not the kind as if I were in the hospital, that soundproof room kinda quietness where you talk and the sound is swallowed into the walls if you get what I mean) My pa2v2 make everything a bass heads, ms1s were musical. so now I want neutral. Anything beside staying at work listening in the void-like quiestness?
  8. *well, to sum up I wanna try DIY amps from our fellow forumers here, but have no idea what they sound like or which is better. I was thinking getting a DIY tube/solidstate or a hybrid amp, with crossfeeds *important feature* lol. if not possible, than I will decide getting off the shelves amps with recommendations from forumers here. I need one that can drive both high and low impedance cans, has good staging & seperation & if possible have synergys with both neutral and dark cans. But it must be as accurate and neutral as possible. I not looking for something that can, say, give a bass boost to a non bassy can or a bright amp for a bassy darth bayer. it would defeat the whole purpose of buying that particular can anyway.
  9. Hi! I've been lurking around headfi & sgheadphones for quite sometime now. I'm currently interested in getting a new set of amps and/or can. Currently I've got the MS1s & and Akg k81dj. I like the MS1 as they are the sweetspot for almost everything I listen to. As for the k81, I have a love-hate relationship with this basshead. Now I'm currently listening to electro clash, swing, jazz, soul, lounge & vocals including some old presses and recordings. My MS1s seems to be ok with these music (some great, some soso considering the wide genre) but the k81 are only good with electro and some less bassy soul/lounge/jazz stuff I play that requires the warm flavour. My amp has only been the pa2v2 which pairs well with the ms1s for some genres. A big nono with the k81. I have a budget of around $500 - $800 just for amps (but from the budget probably towards diy) Option 1.) Get 1 neutral amp with 2 different phones on top of my pa2v2. Option 2.) Get 2 different sounding amps. Now the questions, - I'm looking for a more neutral sounding solidstate amp away for the pa2v2 flavour, (leaning towards alittle warm is ok) and/or tube hybrid to pair off with maybe a k701 or 601. Is there any amp that would pair well with these? - I've heard great stuff about the beyer 990 but since I've been put off by the k81 bassheads, I'm alittle worried that I might not like the sound. I'm open to them but I would like to narrow down on amp choices before diving into auditoning the new cans. - As I have some old pressings, I've read that the PPa have some 3d sounding effect "quote Kippei" that might take some listening fatigue away from the music? Is that the effect of crossfeeds/crossover? I've the older recording encoded lossless on my rockboxed Ipod with crossfeed plugin and it gave a more pleasurable listening. But I leaning towards a home setup as opposed to the software ipod way. I just felt the ipod makes the music sound dead (looks like I'm into the tube flavour) - I've seen the corda mkII and Headroom micro options, but was wondering if the option to have our fellow forumers DIY some amps/hybrid amp like the ppa or millet hybrid with a variable crossfeed for my music. I'm a noob and have little electronics background to DIY on my own, plus sourcing for the parts is as good as being lost in a foreign land! I've search through the forums and have narrowed to these option; 1. Get a DIYed tube hybrid with variable crossfeed circuit for my jazz/vocal stuff (electro just doesn't need amps with the k81). Any recommendations? Any diyers here interested to help? 2. Go solidstate and either get off the shelf amps/diy a solidstate, analytical amp, again leaning to one with variable crossfeeds. I'm an airhead so soundstaging is very important. I've notice most people here are bassheads, considering I find the MS1s to better with the bowl pads than modded 414 on a bassy Pa2v2, jus to give you guys an idea of what sound I'm leaning towards. should I get an all round neutral amp to pair with a bassy beyer and k701 or a diy tube amp for vocals /old recordings and a solidstate for the rest. Any seasoned listener to give me any opinions?

    My first PPAv2

hmm, what do you mean by 3d sound as I see your PPA doesn't include the Litzwit crossfeed circuit?
  11. sheares at beach road (opp shaw towers) sells pelican stuff and militiray specs hardcases. check it out. it's at a white building.
  12. LOL. Yeah.. I believe it's just psychological regarding the effects of RFI affecting the sound. I was wondering if I could optimise my cables to the max in it's current configuration . No point if I bought an off road car to drive on a race track or a ferrari for singapore's short roads lol!
  13. hmm, 2 paths means lesser resistance, would it not be better for the signal?
  14. I see it now regarding the balanced or unbalanced thingy. Okay, back to the connection, I've actually made 2 cables, 1 short 15cm mini to mini and another 1m length mini to mini cable. I was concern about the connection with the shield as ground because of the length of the 1 metre cable. I saw the guide in headfi saying to ground the sounce end of the shield, leaving the other unterminated. While the 4 conducter star quad will be in the following config: 1 white for left, the other white for right channel and the remaining 2 blues as ground. In this case, wouldn't the shield still "pollute" the ground still since it's connected? I was concern because if it was terminated with the shield as ground and 2 wires for each of the channel, I probably would have just gotten normal 2 conducter cable like the canare L2T2S instead of a star quad!!
  15. I've went to LHS to make a Mini to mini interconnect. Robert terminated for me the connections with Canare F12 Plugs. I noticed that he terminated the StarQuad cable with the 2 blue pairs of wire to right channel & 2 white pairs of the wires to the Left channel. The copper shield of the cable is used as ground. This becomes an unbalanced mini to mini cable right? The sound in my setup was warmish, yet I was thinking if it was terminated with one of the white wires each to a channel with both blue to ground and the shield left unconnected, would there be any improvement or deprovement? Considering now my cables aren't shielded when the shield is used as ground. Any suggestion if I should leave it or resolder the connection?
