Shamino 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2003 Audio gurus, I need help connecting speakers to headers on my motherboard. I'm trying to use the onboard sound from the back audio output ports but there is no sound coming out even though the audio is setup properly in windows. There are audio headers on the motherboard it self and its for connecting speakers to them. But I don't know what wires/adapters to buy to connect my speakers to them. Here are the headers: My speakers come with the usual audio port connector. So how do I connect them to these pins, and which pins do I connect them to? If this doesn't work, then I'll have to buy a USB sound card. What's the cheapest USB sound card available locally? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Shamino 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2003 Blazie, thx for the welcome! Well here's the pic, but you probably know what they look like its the standard audio connectors. Just some low end altec lansing speakers. The white is actually from the basic cambridge soundworks subwoofer thats connected to 2 speakers. That is for the front audio. ablaze 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2003 ahh..stereo mini-plugs ok, so you need to diy your own cable. for the front channels: pin 5 (front right)-->plug's right (center portion of the plug) pin 9 (front left)-->plug's left (tip of plug) pin 2 (ground) --> plug ground (part furthest away from the tip) rear channels: pin 1 (left) to plug left pin 4 (right) to plug right either pin 2 or pin 3 to plug's ground that should work. get a canare stereo miniplug from LHS at SLT second floor. get a nice 3/4 conductor cable, from the same place. (they got lots of Belden cables there. ask the guy for recommendations for your usage) if you're just gonna use your existing cable, then ignore this last paragraph Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Tenson 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2003 How are you guys planning to connect the wires to the motherboard? I doubt the plugs needed for the motherboard are standard things you can get from RS Components or Maplin or whatever and soldering straight onto the motherboard seems a little nasty! What sort of motherboard is it? If it is the sort with the audio outputs on a separate back plate then it may just be that it is not connected correctly to the motherboard!
