searching for a pcdp.

...

Looks like no pcdp is worth amping,

no player for my tube amp?

...

You can't really say that 100%. Let me put it this way, 'Don't knock it till you've tried it'. However in this case using a tube amp to power a PCDP would be a little overkill although possible. We can dish out the advice but at the end of the day only you yourself can judge with your own ears whether it is justifiable or not.

Why not try and borrow a friend's PCDP & hook it up to your tube amp?

BTW, to attach an image file from your hard drive, before making your post click on the "Add reply" button at the very bottom of the page (instead of using the quick reply function). It will open a new page. Just below the reply window is "File attachment" click on browse to attach the file you want to post. Once you are done, click on 'Add reply'.

Since you already have a old Technics PCDP and have bought the tube head/preamp, why not hook them up and try? I am quite sure there should be some difference on the HP890 by driving direct by the PCDP and via the tube headamp. Then you come back to this forum and decide later what direction to go....

Many thanks to all of you.

Have not see the SL-CT790, ONLY saw SL-CT700, CT800.

Okay, will try to find it.

SAW the SL-CT810 last weekend at Sim Lim Tower (not square), 6mW+6mW.

It support WMA format. Cosmetic wise is beautiful (Black), make in Japan.

Selling at about S$250 also.

Tried to seach on the net, looks like there is some improvement, not sure.

Yes, I am listening with the old Technics PCDP,

very enjoying. Good bass, vocal is sweet, not so good on the high side.

Once on, is hard to stop listening.

But the PCDP is not mine, have to return to the owner one fine day.

Therefore I am searching one for myself.

Will try to post the image of the amp ASAP.

I think SL CT 790 is considered old model already. Recently saw 1 at Jurong East Cash Converter but asthetic condition not very good. Saw 1 D777 at the same cash convertor also. I saw 1 CT790 at Jade gift shop. Saw 1 CT790 at causeway point metro also but price no good. Good luck!

Arggh! Just my luck my PCDP finally gave up. Have to search for a replacement if I can't get it going.

Your amp looks 'cool' or should that be 'HOT'.

Just bought it today during lunch time.

Simply tested with a SONY MDR-G61A,

Out of the box, un-amping.

After two hours of listening(volume 10), ear not tired.

The bass is just nice for me, not tight,

but not the powerful type (s-xbs is not switch on yet).

The high I would say is beauty, violin is sweet, piano is crisp.

Mid is bright. Overall clean, detail, separation is good,

good headroom also.

I had audition the Philips AX7201 and Sony NE-10 at BEST, Great wall city.

It was too noise at the place. For the AX7201, headphone must connecting

to the remote. I like the ext. battery connect for the SONY, secure.

I think the Sony has a better headroom, but the high is a bit

too sharp to my ear (was using a supplied "ear-plug" type headphone for both unit).

Some detail of the unit:

- 1 bit MASH

- Headphone ouput level RMS Max. 6mW+6mW, 16ohm (adjustable?)

- Output voltage 0.6Vrms(50KOhm)

- Frequency response 20 to 20K Hz (+0 -1.5db)

- S/N > 96db

- Sampling frequency 44.1KHz

- WMA: 32kbps to 320kbps

- mp3: 32kpbs to 320kbps

- Ext batt holder

- Include 2 pc rechargeable batt.

- Optical out.

- Remote control may need not to be connected.

Overall it is a very good unit; sound quality, cosmetic wise.

I am very happy with it, no regret.

Btw: I found only one shop at Sim Lim Tower(2nd floor) selling this unit.

There is one unit in Black on display.

I went to Jade Gift shop on Sunday, it was closed, didn't see on display.
