Headphone Amp -Plug to Amp or Player?

Hi, newbie here

 

i just bought a MF x-cans, just wondering whether it would be better to hook up direct to the cd player, or to the pre-out of integrated amp.

CDP. No point adding an additional stage in between you and the source.

Unless you swap regularly between speakers & headphones then cmk's suggestion of plugging your X-Cans directly to your CDP's line out would be better for sound quality rather than from your Preamp (in theory). Try it out & see which one you prefer.

thanks. so happens my cd player's got both balanced (used to connect to amp) and unbalanced (connect to headphone amp) outputs, so quite easy for me to switch. actually both doesn't sound very different, just thought there should be!

Besides connecting the headamp via the pre-out of the int amp you can also use the tape out of the int amp. In your case since your CDP has 2 output then not a issue already, unless you are connecting more than 1 source.
