HD497 or Philips 890 or Beyer DT231?

Hi, this is my first post here so do help a new guy out. Looking for a spare pair of cheaper phones to use as I cant bear to bring my good ones out. what'll it be? i listen to jazz/vocals and the like. some classical too but no techno and stuff. thanks! also might consider sony D66SL or the px100 and px200. so many choices..

think that the HP 890 will be too huge for portable use. its a full sized cans.

try the PX200, i use 1 & its pretty decent.

 

if you want the HP890, i have one for sale cheap.

hmm..how about having to choose between the beyer DT231 and senn HD497?

i have the senn hd497....the head cushions are nice BUT they have one flaw...if you hang it on some hot surface...the cushions will melt. So beware ;p

I have the 497 for over 2 years, and up til now I still feel it is just too tight on my head. I think it is a problem that many have when they buy this pair of cans.

So either you have a sutiable headshape or you dun mind having a vice-like clamp on your head, then go ahead and buy the 497.

Though, I must admit, for the price, it does sound very good.

thanks guys..i suppose im still battling it out between the 497 and the 231. very different in that the 497 is open and the 231 is closed..i gotta decide soon...perhaps i need a little more help from those with the 231, as for those who've helped me regarding the 497s so far, thanks a lot!

perhaps u can go to Hung Brothers @ SLS to audition both cans?

i know they have 497 and i am quite sure that they have 231 also.

let u yourself decide which one to buy.

well...thanks guys i went down to buy the 231 today but on they only have the galactica left (the bluish one). i've bought it already but do any of you know if it is any different than the original black one in sound quality? i dont mind the appearance but i really dont know if they're both same insides diff. outsides or differently engineered versions..please help! thanks in advance..! by the way...listening without an amp first off isnt that impressive but i suppose i gotta run them in first. i do know that headroom gave the 231 five stars but i dont know if that means the bluish galactica version gets 5 stars too. i sure hope its nothing more than a facelift..HELP!

In theory at least there is no difference in specification between the normal(Pro) or Galactic (not Galactica) version, other than cosmetic & the higher price on the Galactic.

guys, was told at hung bros. that they are putting the galactic on promo cuz its gonna be replaced by a new model which would prob be priced at about 120+. just for your info..anyway, i still plan on buying another pair of headphones..this time prob the 497..cuz i cannot bear to use my akg k100! not too many people talk about it but since ive tried them a few times at a cd shop..im telling you theyre worth the money..after all, its a pity its been discontinued...anyone can recommend me phones similar to the akg k100? id really be grateful..btw thanks guys for all the advice so far..!
