Comments on my choices

Recommended Posts

Been reading abit these few days regarding the recommanded headphone(err why call them cans??) to get for general audio and usage for my PC(listening MP3 and gaming).

My budget is abt < $150 but i'll go the length if the product is really good for my usage. Went out today to look around and found these

Sony MDR-V6 $156 <---- lots of people saying this is good so im considering

Senn HD497 $109.90

was looking the the grados but couldn't find them....can someone direct me to a good shop tongue.gif

thanks

Considering these also but didn't manage to find them today

Grado SR60 or SR80

Senn PX200

Based on your choices given & if you can find it I'll say go for the Sony MDR-V6 (or 7506) as it is more versatile & will be good for portable use too should you ever need to as they can fold up into a ball shape for storage & are very robust due to the metal enclosure/headband construction. Next choice will be the PX200 but for gaming they may not give you the oomph most people look for.

See the local headphones prices thread (on the Main Equipment forum) for where to get Grados from. Not that I don't like the Grados they are great headphones but if you intend to use it for gaming & MP3 you're better off with the other two as in this application they will suit it better. I find the Grados a little bright on lesser sources & amplification.

Not sure about the HD497 as I've never heard them before.

yahh my thinking was toward the V6 since its mention alot in this forum.

All the Senn i saw was made in China and the V6 was in japan so i guess the quality is there. party.gif

Been reading abit these few days regarding the recommanded headphone(err why call them cans??)

U might recall a favourite primary school science project; primitive'long distance' communication using 2 tin cans and a stretched string attached.

In addition, do not overlook the fact that Philips HP890 (price varies from $70-99) may serve your purpose. It has oomph in the bass and certainly enjoyable with music unless audiophile standards is paramount. Do a search under 'Home Equipment' for previous discussions on its sound and mods.

right now seems the V6 is the choice for me.

If your budget can accomodate Sony MDR-V6, it's a no brainer. Even a pdcp can drive it well. I also use the V6 with my portable system.

There's another shop at the basement of Phoenix Hotel where the Garden Cafe is located. The shop is next to stairways to the restroom. Walk through Specialist Shopping Centre and take the stairs to the basement after passing by a shop that sells winter clothing on your left. I think the shop deals mainly in McClaren products but also sells Philips HP890.

i got the HD890 from Specialist Centre. The shop is called Lifestyle Shop. It the Philips service centre for headphone i was told. Got it for $94. Tried to bargain more but need to rush back to work. Wanted the V6 actually but too far to go and buy.

Anyway first impression....very detail sound as till i feel its too bright. The bass rocks...deep thump just the way i like it Feeling nausea though after an hour or so using it...dunno why. Will let it run and see how it goes.

Anyway im using Philips Accoustic Edge PSC706 as my PC soundcard.Might get the Gainward Hollyword@Home as it using VIA Envy24 chipset. What you guys think abt that?

I guess you answered your own question. try at least 3 days non-stop run-in.
