Heady: I dont think those are the JRC4556, those are TL072CN an extremely cheap OPAMP which can be use to test the circuit without risking ka-putting more expensive OPAMPs.

 

I just realise the gain on my CMOY is too high.

username, thanks for the tip re: the opamps.

 

I used to use the gain of 11 as per the web site but I now realised that if you use line-out from CD player, 11 is too high. My earlier CDP had no line-out. I now use a gain of 6.
