aaron-xp 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2006 Shure is rarely used (I may be wrong here), as they don't really make customs, though many artistes use their personal monitor systems. Ultimate Ears and Westone customs are used really often, common models include the well-known UE-10, ES-3 and even UE-7 and ES-
kehyi 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2006 (edited) They wear IEMs so that they can hear themselves. If you've ever been up on stage, you'll quickly realise that one big problem is that the speakers face *away* from you. With your band (esp the drummer) crashing around you, you can't hear a thing... Thus, monitor speakers were needed. These face *towards* you so that you can hear yourself, to monitor what you're singing. But having extra speakers on stage means less space and more clutter... So IEMs or "In Ear Monitors" were developed. That's one reason why IEMs have such excellent isolation. Edited June 23, 2006 by kehyi
