zer061zer0 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 I am starting this thread to disucss everything about XiangSheng 708A/B The below is what i quote from Zhapchit, quoting from Mirumu from Head-fi on the sort of tubes replaceable for the XS. quote from mirumu of headfi : For the 6N1 ------> 6N1P (This is similar to the 6N11/6DJ8/6922 but they are not interchangable without circuit changes. See this page for details of the differences) For the 6N3 ------> 6N3P, 5670, ECC42, 2C51 and 396A For the 6N11 -----> 6DJ8, 6922, E88CC, ECC88, PCC88, E188CC, 7308, 7DJ8 and 6N23 For the 6Z4 ------> None, but the 6X4 is similar. A 6X4 will not fit the in the Xiang Sheng case and will require circuit modification. Note that this 6Z4 is a minature 7-pin tube made by Shuguang in China. This is not compatible with the large 5-pin American 6Z4. Also another widely discuss issue is the change of the stock power cord to the Belden 19364 or the 83802/8003. For wider soundstage and different intensity of bass and etc. Do help to add on more info on the XS to make this thread useful to XS owners.
zhapchit 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 (edited) Ah XS 708's own thread Something to add... It's been known lately that the 6N1, which is the tube at the front in the display, is only used as cosmetic purposes. That is, it does not contribute to the sonic quality of the amp itself. As for my XiangSheng 708B, these are the changes so far : 1) Replaced stock power cord with Belden 19364 cord (Initial impressions: Tighter bass, bigger soundstage) 2) Replaced 6N3 with Western Electric 2C51 3) Replaced the 2 6N11 with Electro Harmonix 6922 Edited September 13, 2006 by zhapchit
zhapchit 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 Replacements for the 6Z4 (the tall tube at the corner on its own) are difficult to find. So far these are the 2 known sources which stocks the 6Z4 http://eshop.diyclub.biz/product_info.php?...products_id=336 http://www.audiotriodes.com/en/shop/flypage/product/240.html
zhapchit 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 Alternatively, you can opt for an elementary and budget solution to power cord and interconnect, which still yields pretty good improvement. Power cord: Belden 19364 ($10/m) - for a more spacious and slightly laidback sound but bass control is relatively looser than Belden 83803 and has a slight hump to mid bass. Belden 83803 ($20/m) - slightly bright at the highs but cleaner and tighter bass with greater control over 19364. I usually prefer to partner this cable with amps whereas 19364 is somewhat of an all rounder ie, for source and amp. Terminate these with: - MK UK 3-pin plug (approx below $10/piece); MK UK 3-pin plug with "Hospital Grade" (approx below $15). Structually they are quite similar so I always choose the former. - Shurter IEC connector ($4/piece) Interconnect (approx $2.50/m): - Klotz GY107 for RCA-RCA interconnects - Canare L2T2S, Canare L4E5S for RCA-mini phono plug Prices are indicative as they might have changed. All the parts for power cord are available at LHS, 2nd floor SLT.

Anyway if u look carefully at the tube dampers, they do look like "something else" Guess bah.. Anyway u should get tube dampers here.. Partsconnexion.. very cheap and maybe not so nice looking, but since it does the job, why not? http://www.partsconnexion.com/Advertising/...ogon/pearl.html Cheers! Zhapchit use rubber band later might have to get a new XS.. The one i saw in ebay comes in a different with differen density ones, i think iit should still be cheaper. . . and shipping charges only for 1 set. I might be interested to go for at lest 2 sets.
