heady 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 Some audio diyers actually buy silver wire and teflon tubing and then thread the wire through the tubing themselves. I have seen some silver wire in clear tubing in Bytetron in SLT but don't know if it is teflon.
iewgnail 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 is it difficult to thread the wire through the tubing? cheaper to self-thread or cheaper to buy already teflon coated wire?
nofing 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 Erm..I'm not too sure if I know what you're talking about. But it's teflon coated silver plated copper?
iewgnail 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 i want to get either pure silver or copper. but would like to have a clear teflon tube (self thread) or teflon coated like the one on homegrownaudio. basically want to make a 3 wire braid for a ipod lod. something like the one ALO made using cryo treated wire. cosmetically look nice and can make to 'c' shape easily. heady 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 Erm..I'm not too sure if I know what you're talking about. But it's teflon coated silver plated copper? Bytetron was selling pure silver cable in clear insulation. Cost S$17 per foot if I am not wrong. Too rich for my blood. Ahfart Audio sells pure silver and also pure copper wires I think also in teflon but don't know if the teflon is clear.
iewgnail 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 wow pure silver sure is ex. think i got to settle for copper wire. however clear teflon is a priority! haha
d0td0t 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 why don't U just buy ALO pre braided wire from SLS? its not that eXpensive if U jus need it for a short interconnect.
d0td0t 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2007 Sorry about that.. the one selling in SLS is home grown audio's.. good luck =P
iewgnail 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2007 which shop in SLS? will head down and take a look
Stereo_Electronics 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2007 is it difficult to thread the wire through the tubing? cheaper to self-thread or cheaper to buy already teflon coated wire? It's not difficult to thread the wire through, but I would be more worried about the speed of oxidation.
jenhwa 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2007 (edited) bytetron sells cables from ahf art audio, however the grade of the teflon is not the best, there was some shrinkage when exposed to an open flame. my diy interconnect using the silver cable, sounds very detailed but neutral. oxidisation is not a issue with pure silver cable, slinky links pure silver interconnects use air as an insulator see here <http://www.slinkylinks.net/SlinkylinksCable-3StepProcessAir.htm> It's not difficult to thread the wire through, but I would be more worried about the speed of oxidation. david watt 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2007 U can get the clear teflon tubing from Farnell. They sell it in different internal diameters. Can ask the engineer on site to assist you.

Yes, however silver oxides are conductive, and although not as efficient as pure silver, will not be detrimental to sound and Slinkylinks performance." Copper or silver will oxidise in time except the effects of oxidisation on silver is not as bad as copper but I personally would not want to use a pair of oxidised silver interconnects. I remembered coming across high grade cables that uses "AIR" as a dielectric but not any type like Slinkylinks but inert air which not only is a excellent dielectric but also for it's non-reactive properties.
