evilmerlin 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2008 For portable use? You can try Tubeman over at Jaben's forums. He made quite 3 portable caps using Sonicrafts I think.

evilmerlin 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2008 Sorry, should clarify. He didn't make capacitors but rather made his own V-Caps like those from ALO for use with the iMod. I guess crashie actually meant making the actual capacitors and not V-Caps.

I guess crashie actually meant making the actual capacitors and not V-Caps. a V-caps is a capacitor brand. What Tubeman did was to built his own portable capacitors by getting a casing and soldering the SonicCaps(the capacitor he used) with a mini plug and then house them in a casing. gene83 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2008 (edited) i think at this time you guys should stop using the term portable capacitors? i think it should be termed "insertcapacitornamehere cap dock"? eg. SonicCaps Dock? so people wont be confused yah? Edited September 1, 2008 by gene83
heady 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2008 so people wont be confused yah? Thanks for "un-confusing" me. Now I do think it is possible to make a DIY capacitor, after all, it is just an dielectric between two conductors. But whether it works well or sound good, that's a different matter altogether. Singapura 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2008 This might be something: http://www.uoguelph.ca/~antoon/circ/hv/hvcap/hvcap.html A bit large for portable use though This one is a bit smaller: http://www.hanssummers.com/radio/homebrew/...citor/index.htm
Guest crashie Report post Posted September 2, 2008 (edited) i plan to unwrap my axial capacitor and soak it with vegetable oil, wrap partly(not fully wrap) and then put in the small tube tank with the vegetable oil and seal it. would that work? hehe. mouz 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 (edited) Interesting topic, Would be interesting if we could make one tat works, heh heh. Put one layer of paper soaked with wax or oil, one layer of paper thin conductor (silver or copper foil, maybe can even get those gold foil you find in the temple, haha!), dip in wax n or probably epoxy n u're done.
