Hi David, Around $150 maybe you can get a used Creek? It used to be a good match with 501, you can check HeadFi. You would need to have good amp and source to pair with 501 or any high-end phone, lest you may end up thinking that the phone is not good. Maybe you would want to up your budget to get a better amp? I have hearnt the 501 with my diva amp during the SGhp meet at AA months back, although only for 5 mins, I was quite impressed. However, personally I'm looking forward to having a akg701.

I have followed the threads on 701 in head-fi also, 701 is not a direct replacement of k1000. The best is to have both, for covering various genre of music. In fact you can have various can for various genre of music. That's the good thing about HP listening. You can have several pair of speakers for speaker setup also....of course...but.... I think Futura is considering 650, so you win.

Beyer DT150. Good build good isolation and good sound quality One of the few closed HPs that don't have an obvious 'tunnel' effect. It's around $3xx. However, it got a high Nominal Impedance. So you might need an amp for it.

??? Japanese Uncle ?? 5 63 139 666 888?? Futura won't be able to get his X'mas present already. Futura needs some replies/affirmation for his 3 questions 1) Comfort is my major concern. After listened to HD600, I realized how painful it is to put the HF-1 on my head. 2) Enough with bright pair of phones. Please, no more piercing highs like grados... 3) Must be good in bass department. I haven't heard the 701 so cant comment, i have the 650 for about 1 year and the 600 for around 3 years. The 600 costs 2/3 the price of 650 and you can use the 1/3 saving to buy the replacement cable and it's noway inferior than the 650. Both 650 n 600 needs replacement cable to up their sound reproduction quality. The 650 has an "apparently stronger" bass than 600 that i personally find it abit overwhelming and imho overshadow the good mid and high frequencies. However, if it's what you want, a prominent bass, then it's ok. They aren't bright. They are comfortable but the beyer880 is more comfortable than the 2. hope it helps!

I spoke to some of my female colleagues who are in the "mature lady" age group , they aren't established vocalists but they sound natural. Keiko Lee is coming to SG, maybe it's a good opportunity to hear her out, in real person of course.

Hi Brandon, Thanks for the reply. Glad that you didn't reply early as likely I might get the cardas($2xx) base on your positive feedback. I got the DT880 at $299 instead. However, are you interested to listen the zu and olehbach and hd600? We can do some A/B comparison of the zu and the cardas.

Mini Feedback on Beyer DT150 I tried the DT150 as I missed it during the last meet. Listened The Hunter(Jennifier Wearne) and The best of Keiko Lee(Keiko Lee) from the pro-hp amp. Both have vocals of mature ladies, warm and sexy, if your are "mature" enough to know what I mean. . I have their CDs. I can only say that it's a 'love or hate' cans or 'love and hate' cans, the variations can be broken down as follows: 1. Love it. 2. Hate it. 3. Love some of it and Hate some of it. 4. Hate it and love some of it. 5. Love it and hate some of it. I'm variation 4. It very flat and even and soundstage is sufficiently big and one word, neutrality. So neutral that Jennifier Wearne is emotionlessly reciting out the song and Keiko Lee is coarse and cool when she sang "Imagine". However, I like the way it replays the accompany instruments music, very clean and precise and I think it would replay percussion/instruments music very well. Maybe neutrality is also a kind of colored sound also. And a very important thing to note, the feedback is accordingly to my personal listening preference, YMMV.

Did you try comparing the modded cd63 with and without the lite dac? If so, which did you prefer? That was two months prior to that when i tried the 'phototype' diva hp amp. It connected directly to the cd63. The Lite Dac Ah wasn't there yet. My choice? Add the Lite Dac Ah. But do note that it's not a direct A/B comparison as the equipment involved is not similar.

Both Headfi and Hifi can coexist. Stick to either way will still slim down your wallet.

Have heard it out when I listened my diva at the shop with the setup of CD63SE->Lite Dac-ah->diva->akg 271 and used all the diva cable/PC. Listened to some female(CaiChin) vocals. Very warm, forward and intimate with close microphone recording.

Just phoned Coherence, it's $250 for the 3m length. I was thinking of ordering from Jan Meier, he had a cable made for the 650. Too bad he does not produce this anymore. $250 sound reasonable for 3m worth of cardas if u ask me. as compared to the zu so whats ur final verdict? lol think even if jan decided to make the cables for ya, it's gonna cost more than the cardas Sonical, the final verdict is that i am going to wait for the AKG K701. heh heh.... For some reason, I have similar thinking, skip the replacement cable(i m having zu, olebach and both HD600 and HD650) and wait for the AKG 701. The AkG701 is likely to be available in SG within this year.
