  1. Any comparison or review for the QC2 and 3? I haven't made the time to visit the Bose showroom yet.
  2. The devil's advocate, faced with those readily lapping it all up. I really should take some time to visit the Bose showroom.
  3. Okay, that was both helpful and unhelpful. The misconception has been cleared, but now I'm just dying to know how the 10Pro sounds. The lack of a frame of reference is disturbing.
  4. Or you can go for UE10Pro. By most accounts, they're like ER4P with more balanced bass. If you check out Headphone Haven, Ryner got a pair, and ahdui has already auditioned them. Contrary to my expectation, they seem to be very well-extended on either ends without being too coloured.
  5. I see you have been answered on Head-Fi. That guy hit the logic straight on.
  6. If the ES1 is a custom version based off UM1, I don't see how it could possibly reach the sound of the ER4P. The treble would be way off by more than a long shot.
  7. Single-driver customs probably go for around the price of universal dual (e.g., UM2?)? If you check out ultimateears.com, the UE5 starts at a price higher than the triple.fi. I think that's reason enough for most people, that it's probably not worth it. In the end though, it's your money. If you love the UM1 and think highly enough of it, then go for it by all means.
  8. I'm not too sure on this one, but here goes anyway: It seems like most impedance additions serve to constrict low frequencies. If that's true, I'm pretty sure that a capacitor would serve the opposite purpose, ie, constrict high frequencies. (Note: should try this out someday.) Forgive the digression. I think the concept of higher impedance and higher quality is dependent on 2 main points: 1. drivers perform better across the range when less hindered by lower frequencies; 2. a high-power, high-impedance amp designed to swing a signal across a wide voltage range has a wider ground for expressing details. Of course, it's circuitry design couldn't be too shabby in the first place, so adding impedance will reduce the impedance mismatch and allow the your cans to express the amp more faithfully. Okay, so that was purely theory and assumptions. Just wait for the 'old birds' to give their piece, 'cos I don't have the equipment or experience to back any of this, and I'd really like to know too. (Should post to Head-Fi too, think they'll have answers)
  9. It's not that it cannot power your headphones, but you will need to drive up the volume control to hear at a reasonable level, saps power from the battery. Not the best for a portable player.
  10. 1. I really don't think you want to power something 100ohms with an iPod, think it's a gross mismatch of impedance and power. 2. The Little Dot Micro+ fits within your budget and will match with the 100ohms, costs around $50+ from clemo's MO. Or look out for people dumping theirs in the Classifieds. 3. SE: 4th(?) floor @Causeway Point. Jaben: 4th(?) floor @Adelphi.
  11. Sounds like what you need is a pair of 'phones that has the bass you want. It'll also eliminate your need to EQ your music.
  12. Clear flex, comfy? o.O That's a new one o.O
  13. You'll reach a point where you compress the foam and it 'inflates' without enough time for you to insert into your ears. Or when it's too sticky from the wax
  14. Oh yes, forgot about the Ultimate Links for iPod - affinity and cresendo - direct from the iPod dock connector to 1/8".
  15. It's rather difficult to find MP3 players with line-out these days. You can try to hunt for an old iriver H1xx or H3xx. Anyway, what you said about the iPod sounding bad, I've never used an iPod before, but it seems to me like the earphones are the weak link. If the Cresyn is like the OEM I've heard, it might be just better earphones you need.
  16. Cross-posted to Head-fi, they had a similar thread recently: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=220483 1. I have no review. SE didn't carry them anymore. 2. They returned all their stock. I was told this: For the sound quality, there was no way they were going to be able to justify selling these things at the price of the A900. They look like the Bose. They come packaged like the Bose. I guess they just lack one thing: the brand power of Bose.
  17. I'm a skeptic and not sorry about it. What sort of closet 'audiophile' plonks money down on something like this only for visual appreciation? Knowing how niche of a product this is, the intro here and on the eBay page sounds more like a bait for either the gullible or the totally ignorant with too much cash to spare. What do you guys think? Am I looking at this with too narrow a view? Or is no-one paying that thread any attention and I'm the only one getting worked up?
  18. 25-ohm load of the UM1 equates to about -1~2 dB roll-off at 40Hz. I think, for most people, that's definitely not a problem. Unless I'm taking the numbers too seriously and the problem is indeed more serious.
  19. what tip were you using to check? you should try the comply to check, the flex may not always achieve a good seal.
  20. When you think IEMs, think about violating your ears. Seriously. The Sony canalphones merely sit at the opening of the ears. You should probably find out what your father thinks of sticking something deep in the ear, he might not be too comfortable with the idea at all. In which case, you'll be looking for closed headphones that are warm and detailed. Or whatever it is that might suit his preference. What does your father use for portable listening anyway? You said he listens to mostly records? The Shure e3c is known for it's mid-range, should be good for the types of music he listens to. The e2c has a problem with muddy bass. For portable earphones, you basically want low impedance, so portable devices can drive them easily, without sapping too much energy from what precious little battery life they have.
  21. Thanks for the various recommendations =) I'm trying to get away from IEMs to try out a better head-stage. Otherwise, I'd have gone straight for the ER4s. Fizban, you tried the Vibes yet? I haven't had a chance, but there's quite a bit of love in the Head-Fi thread. It apparently has a leakage port to chill the bass a little, but makes it unsuitable for commute. Counting down one week to pay day =D
  22. Jaben's right about trying out other headphones. There are many that are so much better, only, you capped your budget at $50. If you're worried that trying out the better stuff may harm your wallet, then it's probably better to keep away. If not, as they say in Head-Fi - welcome, and sorry about your wallet =p
  23. morpheus, you forget that it takes 2 to play the game. the agency will normally penalise the company and blacklist it, through a contract, legally-binding as you so rightly put. try as the temp worker will, but it's not up to him to decide if he'll get hired after quitting. as with the temp worker, the company will think of it's own interest. to the OP, if you will put in the effort, call up major companies on your own. i recommend banks (not just local ones, but american and japanese: they're some of the biggest banks in the world) and accounting departments. they have plenty of data entry and filing. might not work, but no harm trying and possibly getting a place on the waiting list. beats having no income or paying the penalty for trying to beat a well-established system. anyway, the agencies seem to offer 6/hr as a standard, which is pretty decent compared to what NS gives as an allowance, considering the hours. unless they are taking their cut out of the 6 dollars.
  24. stereo electronics at causeway point, woodlands jaben at the adelphi, beside funan not your typical giant electronics stores, but they offer audio equipment ranging from everyday stuff to those we can only dream of buying. and auditioning too.
  25. first off, stock earbuds are never a good idea =p now then, the usual recommendation: -koss kcs75, clip-ons. fun-sounding, but totally non-isolating. officially 48 bucks, but you can get them cheaper from a mass order, or try to find people dumping fairly new ones at the classifieds, about 30 bucks. - creative ep630, canal phone. good bit of bass by most accounts (read: bloated), a good start for replacement to stock buds. $35?
