  1. It looks like glue to me. The plastic bits can definitely take the heat from a glue gun... it looks 'cut'. As if the glue blob overflowed and the maker cut off the excess bits.
  2. headphonecrazy, I have to thank you for confirming my knowledge too.
  3. headphonecrazy, Hey, thanks for your input. I believe you can shield without killing dynamics by having a significant space between shield and conductors. Audio Symphonics had this interconnect with an inch or wider tube that seperates the conductor and the shield... dunno how they maintain the conductor to be in the middle of the tubing tho...
  4. headphonecrazy, I wrote something on cables some time back in the forum, what do u think? http://www.sgheadphones.com/index.php?show...findpost&p=3572
  5. Thanks for the info ruach. Since most people here won't venture into the expensive and uncertain realm of tpt/dac Denon players still offers good value as they are pretty much an all rounder.
  6. I believe Hung Bros is another place where they might terminate the cables for you. I dont believe i saw neutrik phono plugs at LHS. I think Neutrik connectors should sound better than Canare ones. Good rca plugs - Eichmann Bullet, Neutrik Profits. Cables - not sure, never compared. The other guys can give better suggestions
  7. Try approaching LHS Electronics #02-46, Sim Lim Tower. They sell this belden microphone cable that is about $2 per metre. He also has canare mini plugs but not the L shaped type. You WILL need shielded cables for such long lengths.
  8. adhoc, Your own lack of confidence is the cause of your demise. People can sense this and dealers would think you're not interested nor look like you would afford and won't bother? Anyways Electrades boss, Doshi is very nice and alot can attest to his good service. A dealer i would buy all my stuff from... when i get a job He has some nice partington dreadnought stands... awesome with dynaudios... He also sells all sorts of economical accesories so it won't be a wasted trip down to UBI and you won't waste his time if you buy something and ask for a short listen.
  9. *Ex DCD2880 owner* Yeah, can do most musics without disappointing... Can't time very well tho... *in comparison with Meridian 506.20* Denon cd players are a good integrated unit, not a very good transport tho (uses sharp plastic assembly lens)
  10. GIven the choice I would pick 11Ls over the 52SE. Quads are very well voiced, I heard these minutive bookshelfs at Electrades' Ubi showroom thinking he had switched on the ESL989s. I thought it sounded pretty transperant though slightly shut in. Later on I realised the mistake and then tried the actual 989s, they sounded very similar in all aspects but had better bass response, speed, more open sounding. I think 11Ls are worth a listen. I read in HFC that the 11L and the floorstander (20L issit?) are actually two different iterations of the same design, meaning they are voiced differently so don't assume that the 20L just a 11L with better bass response. Also, almost all of the 2 way floorstanders (ported) tend to have rather slow or boomy or pronounced bass. You might be better off with bookshelfs and a good sub most of the time as it is easier to place a sub than speakers AND also there would be less strain on the sats to reproduce mid or low bass. All Dynaudio bookshelfs have a nice mid bass bump that makes them exciting for rock, pop and big sounding. They have almost no low bass at all This is a great design for the above mentioned genres but actually sacrifices low bass. There is low bass coming from these bookshelves but they are less noticed if not ignored due to the attenion the midbass grabs. Place them beside a similarly spec-ed but ruler flat bookshelf and you'll notice almost half an octave missing. Granted, they are pretty transperant speakers and with the right music, carefully matched powerful and musical amps, will outsound the 11Ls. I think like all british speakers, they are not offensive, polite and easy to live with both equipment and room wise.
  11. evo, Would you know where to get 2300mAh ones??
  12. evo, Would you know where to get those?
  13. adhoc, I had similar problems soldering neutrik plugs but if you spray abit of progold contact cleaner it does the trick.
  14. Eric, Thanks for the lobang! I found a better lobang, friend's friend coming to brisbane so can pass to me
  15. If you guys didn't know, www.w3cube.com , a Singaporean company in Grandlink Square very near Paya Lebar MRT sells the highest capacity AA batteries, Sanyo 2100mAh very cheaply. A dozen of the sanyo 2100mha is SGD$39 The fast charging Sanyo rechargeable with 2x2100mah batts $38. If anyone is interested and will be making the trip down, CAN HELP ME BUY AND SEND OVER? The same batteries costs $7.50 each and I intend to buy a dozen! Thanks!
  16. Great pics Sipher, I've heard a 63KI with 1388.com's clock upgrade, improved power supply , black gate caps in signal path & bipolar polyprop deboupling caps. I think the upgrade was $500 in cost. It was a very enjoyable cd player, very detailed, great timing, i tapped my foot alot to the music.
  17. Dont forget cream for burns and fire insurance for the house! More importantly, work in a well ventilated environment and avoid breathing in the fumes. Always wipe the soldering iron tip on the wet sponge just before every soldering joint (once it turns yellow, wipe) Use minimal amount of solder Dont leave iron on components longer than u need to wet the solder and let it stick Make sure you solder only when the iron is properly heated (ie solder melt when they touch the iron tip) A pcb holder helps when ur working alone
  18. Everyone are music lovers. Only a few (seems like alot here cos the 'few' congregated!) are particular in the fidelity
  19. Magazines gives you a good idea of how what products are available in the market, they look like, how they operate, how much they cost. To know how it sounds with your equipment, your ears and your taste, you'll have to make a trip down to a dealer's or a friend's place.
  20. Mackie, Oh nothing like a good old 'accidental' drop of the cd player from the 2nd story balcony to kick start to hunt for a new cd player Iconic, Well bright cds might sound ok with the combo but non bright albums might sound duller. I think its a good idea to keep 333ES and DT880, good combination for your current musical taste.
  21. Heowcw, Every month you wait, your knowledge of hifi and budget for cd player increases. Good luck!
