  1. Not if you have a good tuner, reception antennae and live near the top of high rise buildings. Then again the musical selection available in Singapore is pretty BAD, so no point in buying a good tuner...
  2. Disclaimer : Subject to approval by SGH forum boss
  3. The JMT design is very similar to mine... must have a listen when i come back...
  4. Cable is the same as the mystery cable, cept connectors will be sturdier metal case ones.
  5. Would be a good cable to compare against the SGH Fishball mini cable...
  6. I think calling it "Fishball Mni Cable" will do, no need "hand crafted", I'm no craftsman! Just a monkey who can barely solder. Also don't wanna insult this forum with my poor worksmanship
  7. n@z, Name's too long, if possible, just call it the Official SGH mini cable. That is if Ablaze allows
  8. Scriberex, Will talk more when i get back in mid nov. Cable was meant to be as cheap since most sgheadhone goers are students. The cable will be available in any lengths only in black polyester sleeving ( I manage to grab 50metres of this for a song) using straight mini plugs, L shaped ones if i can find good ones Any deviation from this will unfortunately cost more.
  9. N@Z, Ur right price was closer to $20 but it has been increased. The sample cable Mackie has uses plastic plugs and did not provide a good contact. Basically no sound if u move the cable about when plugged in. I'll be using all metal plugs and that increased cost. Mackie, Thanks!
  10. or wait for me. I'll be back in SG in mid november and can make some for ya. I charge a pricely SGD$26 for 0.5m, $35 for 1m. If Mackie allows, u can borrow a sample from him.
  11. Yeah the capacitors have the shortest lifespan amongst all the components in a solid stae device
  12. Interestingly, the few cult status DACs i read about uses previously commonly found DACs. TDA1541 and PCM63K are such examples. Perhaps unearthing an old cdp with such a dac chip and rebuilding its dac portion or using it with a newer hopefully better transport would gain good results on the cheap...
  13. If u guys can wait i'm coming back mid nov. Will bring the materials back and make some. Am too busy this semester to do much... Mackie, You ought to pick up the interconnects and audition them, some of them use the same design as that mini to mini you have at hand
  14. How bout a few photos of your room? Preferably one of each corner so the 4 pics woudl gimme an idea of the placement. PM me and psot the images there. Alternatively I've pm you my email address

    Black CD-Rs

Lekguan, It is also stated that all black cd-rs have a general improvement over non black ones and the melody black mentioned is the best of the black cd-rs Ahgoh, Burn at a slower speed, if u try black or other good cd-rs at even 4x and your dvd/cd player still don't read then it's lens probably cannot take cd-rs (which happens but not usual)
  16. I personally think, if it doesn't follow the circuitry, using the same parts throughout its hardly even a copy. To deviate from the circuitry means its not a copy at all. In fact one can be anal and say a clone has to have everything the same, potting of circuitry and mahogany box included... I think the best bet is to hear real one and the copy/clone/alternative side by side
  17. Ablaze, I dont think open cans allow air to pass thru the transducers, only means the enclosure of the headphones transducers is not sealed. Anyways I'm mistaken on which cans it is, the one i broke/tried/sweated it out in isn't the 890, its some closed model, dont remember which one tho...

    Black CD-Rs

Omigod im deaf!!! Lemme check back the irc channel logs... don't think thats exactly what i said... i didn't compare between original and black cd-rs tho.
  19. By the way did anyone notice THESE tube head amps??? http://www.2000ok.com/news/013.html http://www.2000ok.com/news/015.html
  20. Considering this is a mosfet hybrid not opamp and that the X-cans is as cheapskate as it gets, yes Im sure this one will be better in alot of ways.
  21. $20 more for assembly only!? Jeezus no point buying kit lah... if one wants to mod then just undo the thing and desolder parts loh... jtfoo, Ahhh you're right. Custom toroidals are $$$ too...
  22. Blues, Ooh... you sounded you want grados mar... Unlike you im too poor to buy before try
  23. Would be good to replace that transformer with a toroidal one. The supplied type is known to get HOT. Also tube rolling would be a major PITA as you have to remove pcb from chassis in order to swap tubes. Yet the design uses the chassis as a heatsink so you might not be able to let it run outside chassis whilst u attempt to tube roll
  24. Blues, Hmmm thought MDR-CD3000 was the ONE for you? No longer newly wed so start to see flaws in the Sonys ar?
