    Next meet..

I'm definitely in too However, my NS leave ends next sun (18/9) , so would be great if the meet can be held within these 2 weeks If not, i probably won't have the spare time/leave to fork out for the rest of.. erm.. at least half a year (Or more)?? NS PS.. if all else fails.. i just wanna at least get a chance to audition a pair of Senn hd580/600/650..
  3. ic.. i have a beethoven cd from the publishing label "the great composers and their music".. it sounds compressed when i listen to it.. hmm.. is it becuz of the poor mastering by the company?? Anyway, any suggestions on labels of classical cds to look out for? Thanks for the input
  4. Got a question.. is it just me or are recordings on older cds badly recorded?? I listened to an Anne Murray cd and a some real old classical cds of mozart, broadway blah blah.. and when i compared em to the newer cds, i always find them crystal clear, it doesn't sound restrained at all.. However, when i listen to the older cds, there's always this feeling that the songs are compressed, there's hardly any soundstaging left anymore.. the songs don't really have a lifelike feel to it.. its defintely not something to do with the headphones or source, cuz this 'phenomenon' only applies when listening to the older cds.. anyone with any ideas care to explain?? thanks alot Or maybe i'm correct about them being badly recorded/mastered??
  5. I'm really interested Check your PM
  6. haha... ya.. i saw that ad on echoloft too... hmm.. but i would really like to get my hands on the cd6000 ose.. heard really great things bout it.. unless you can verify that they sound almost the same, wil.. haha... i trust your opinions lol anyway, i planning to use my a900 on em (thanks for the sale again, wil ) argh... now im torn between buying a senn hd600 from the same seller vs spending that money on a dedicated cd player.. Btw, i P.O.P.ed yesterday.. the company of recruit grads you see on the photo of today's straits times is actually my company.. lol.. just that no one can see me.. haha...

  9. Just wondering... when (is/do you think) the next sgheadphones meet will be? I would personally really like to test out some headphones and of course amps ... just that im in camp most of the time right now... haiz.. no time and money to really pursue this hobby.. (NS is such a waste of time ) .. so i guess the best i could do is to audition more headphones and systems whenever there is a chance..
  10. thanks for the comments Will have a look there
  11. Hi, I'm thinking of getting a dedicated cd player soon.. but i'm not sure which brand/model of players to go for.. my budget is $500 or less, using an ath-a900... i listen mainly to pop, instrumentals, jazz, ballads... basically slower type of music.. any suggestions? And it will be great if you can also tell me where can it be bought.. thanks alot One more question... just curious... how much of a noticable difference is there between what you hear in a mid-range dedicated cd player (the one being suggested) vs a mini hi-fi? (the type you see in harvey norman) Need this input from a guy who doesn't have audiophile ears' point of view) Cuz i have a mini hi-fi, so i wanna know whether this buy would be worth it.. ya.. thanks again

  13. hi guys.. do any of you by any chance know where i can get an aircraft adaptor for the headphone jack? Havent seen it around in diy shops.. thanks
  14. Hi.. i've read numerous post on having different headphones being suited to different types of music.. like Grados for rock, Senns for classical.. etc.. so.. would anyone be kind enough to give a rough classification of all the major headphones manufacturers sound characteristics and what type of music they are mostly suited for? Like, maybe have a comparison which includes AT, Beyer, AKG.. etc.. thanks alot And of course, it will be good if you could also give the best example of a headphone model from that particular manufacturer that ties in with that characteristic

  16. I'm not an expert in these stuff, haven't even owned a headphone b4 (just earphones), but i will still pass on some comments.. for ques 1 that is.. I listen to music alot, at least 4 hours a day... anywayz, i think that 'good music' or more concisely, 'good headphones/earphones/speakers' is any that first of all, have the ability to produce what you like to hear.. cuz in the end, if you don't like what you're hearing, then its really no point.. the second most important point IMO is to be able to convey the mood of what you're listening to.. if its a ballad, then i need to feel my heartstrings thugged, and somehow just get immersed into the song.. with that being said, i feel that there are times I find a headphone/earphone overly detailed, which made me focus on the instruments/other sounds, instead of the singer... IMO, its not good.. so a good balance between both is definitely appreciated. Third most important point is for the song to sound natural to me.. a piano needs to sound like a piano, a female needs to sound demure.. you get what i mean.. the rest just basically boils down to your preferences.. do you like more bass? More clarity? blah blah.. i myself have only owned earbuds b4, and a behind the neck crap phone... haha.. Long essay.. o.O Ok, i think you would probably need to start by analysing songs instead of listening to them.. ask yourself whether it sounds natural (whether the song sounds realistically real life.. lolz), whether the song sounds like its coming out from thin air, or does it just sound like its from the 2 pieces of equipment on your ears... I personally don't like to analyse songs too much, cuz it really takes all the emotions that the song is trying to convey away.. Note: there are probably many other ways of going bout this, but what i've written is just my opinion, so no flaming from pple please ;P Hope that it can guide you along..
  17. Yeah, IMO, i don't think any earphones/headphones will be able to produce the kind of musical depth/natural sound when compared to hearing them live. Anyway, for the padding, is it actually sold by AT Singapore? Or will it have to be imported from Japan?
  18. I see... thanks for the second review I went to retrospective today, and they said that they've ran out of stock Hmm... for the female vocals, i think i can do some EQ there... haha... Really hope that i can get an A500 or the A700 over at the selling thread... it will be my very first headphones Had only owned earbuds and behind the neck phones, so ya... haha.. feeling so excited already
  19. Erm... i didn't say that my portable can't drive them... just that they don't drive em well enough.. and ya, i agree that the buds are too big... haha... i probably won't hunt for earphones again.. was thinking of a headphone on my next purchase
  20. Actually i don't like heavy bass.. i need it because the earbuds i've got have an almost non-existent bass... haha... it actually sounds good and not distorted when plugged into my hifi.. anyway, thanks alot Will look into both your suggestions
  21. Where exactly is Retrospective? Thanks Or are there any other places that sell the A500 too? One more question... should the earpads start to "shed its skin", can they actually be replaced? Cuz i noticed that the earpads arn't exactly the normal oval shape like the rest... And really nice review I'm thinking of getting an A500, but not so soon... damn i shouldn't have bought my earbuds...
