  1. if you like bass, get akg k26p for $70+ at hung bros. or stereo electronics

    DIY-ed cables

afaik guitars use mono connection with 1/4 inch plugs
  3. haha that's funny you can try at least by making sure the two wires are of the same specification and have the same length. but for audio application in relatively short distance, i think the incoherence would be too small to be felt. but anyway i might be wrong haha this cable stuff is just too much for me
  4. happy birthday mackie happy valentine's everyone
  5. what i mean by 3dB bandwidth in my earlier post is the conventional way of defining frequency response with the cutoff frequencies (high and low) where the amplitude or gain is 3dB down from the normal response

    woo what happened? short circuit?
  7. hi bryan, welcome to sgheadphones! well, i'm not a Guru but let me try to explain i'm kinda agree with nakedtoes, you can't look on the frequency response rating to determine the sound i'm not sure how headphone manufacturers in general define the term frequency response, but from experience, it is not about the 3dB bandwidth driver diameter: naturally, bigger things tend to vibrate easier at lower frequency. but, it doesn't mean that headphones with bigger driver diameter can produce more and better bass than the smaller ones, so this spec doesn't matter to the sound quality. smaller driver tends to have lower max input power. output spl: (spl stands for sound pressure level) basically this spec tells you how efficient the transducer convert electrical power to sound pressure. this is how to read it: at 1 mW the driver can produce sound at x dB level. the higher the number is better, especially for portable use as the latest portable music player these days tend to have a low output power impedance: well this is kinda technical, but in short it basically determines the amplification requirement. low impedance phones (16-32 ohm at 1kHz is the norm) only need a small voltage amplification, but the amplifier needs to be able to produce more current. a low impedance phone gives more (current) load to the amplifier. a high impedance phone (100-600 ohm) need more voltage amplification but doesn't need that much current. for portable use, a low impedance phone is preferable as most portable players is rated for low impedance phones (all earbuds have low impedance anyway, 16 or 32 ohm shouldn't matter much) max. input power rating: basically the input power level before the the headphone driver breakdown. and as the input power goes up, it is expected that the headphone driver capability will degrades and distorts the sound before finally the driver is spoilt. so higher max input power rating is preferable as it will give more room before the distortion due to headphone driver set in. yes i know how you feel. i also hope there's a simpler and better way to help consumer choose headphones.
  8. really? k601 lacks of bass? mm read from some forum that this product lines (along with k701) is supposed to be akg's answer to the lack of bass in k501 mm kinda disappointed hearing it is also lacking in bass
  9. mm sorry still don't get it are you meaning to say signal and ground twisted together? is there such a specification? oh where did you get the neutrik mini jack squalle?
  10. and how do you twist the wire? which pair do you twist together, i.e. signal and ground twisted together or same channel twisted together?
  11. hi cyrus gold i think you should send a PM to tropicalrips directly
  12. wow it looks nice but how is it secured on our head?

the earth wire is not live it should be okay
  14. really? i like the sound from my akg k26p, does it sound that good as well? anybody know where i can try the es7? the headband looks more comfortable than k26p is it circumaural?
  15. yeah, i'll stay with head-fi and what i've got for now not enough money and no room for proper stereo equipment yet although i notice some songs are better played with speakers, take pink floyd for example with headphones it sounds so upfront and "in your head" compared with listening from speakers but there are other songs that sound great with my current headphone
  16. yeah! agree with you DiGdUb! customer service is really important, but it may not corelate directly with sales though but still for the customer, it's nice to go to a store where still-deciding-customers are treated nicely (well this is just a general remark, i'm not saying the service in the shop is good/bad. i have no prior experience dealing with your shop)

is this interpretation correct, huangyong? the opamps make differential output then converted back to single output by the transistors? i see, it makes the circuit complicated but you don't need high-pass filter anymore nice how do you end up with 511 ohm for the resistors vlue, btw? i see that you try to make balanced inputs for the opamps you might wanna add a resistor to the positive input of opamp #2 too, i think perhaps 511/2 ohm to make it balanced as well
  18. i do actually, but doesn't mean i know everything
  19. according to this website, the rated capacity for energizer alkaline 9v battery is 625mAh personally i'm still using an eveready nonrechargeable battery it's good enough for me and quite cheap ($2) btw does anybody know where to get a good and cheap 9v chargers?
  20. should try akg k26p it's around $70 at hung brothers (sim lim square) or stereo electronics at causeway point

mm i guess so why SOHA needs more voltage? is it because of the selection of tubes?
  22. DiGdUb do they sound good? how do they sound compared to other iem such as shures, etymotics, and ultimate ears? does the sound justify the price or is it only aesthetics?

wow guys you really do talk a lot haha i mean it's page 11 already haha i feel like i'm far behind i just got the sijosae MHHA kit from neutralzz today there seems to be a lot of discussions about the power supply here how do you guys apply the power? can i use wallwart type of dc supply? or is a diy transformer and regulator a real necessity?
  24. well i'm not absolutely sure about this so please do correct me if i'm wrong i think you can still play with R4 and R8 too i guess the snr won't really matter, i think you can raise them to 100k and won't hear any noise (fyi, pimeta uses 1 Mohm resistors for the input filter) that would make your finding caps easier btw are you in singapore? you can get small sized (low voltage) 1uF to 4uF polyester caps easily at koba in people's park centre level 3 polypropylene caps would be harder to find though
