if you're getting RCA cables usually they don't run short unless you self terminate, but most of them tend to bend ok. Thanks and regards." 1) I haven't really tried with other daps before, so I can't really answer your question. I bought the imod because I just wanted to get a dap which was top notch and not have to bother with testing etc. I did however compare it with the vintage sony cdp d321. The imod is better. 2) If you want to do more research, you can try asking around in www.headphonehaven.com They have alot of imod owners there who might let you try it out at Wilson's. That way you can maybe compare to whats around there. Also do you know the imod for g5 is out? you might want to get that rather than a g4 instead if you want 20g more. 3) That said everyone agrees that you only get your full money's worth if you use lossless encodes. This means that if you predominantly listen to downloaded music then the investment is probably not worth it. If you are happy to encode your collection to alac then it would be more worth it. 4) imho, the price of the imod is not worth it if you plan to use it as a home dap. If you want to have a top portable dap I don't think anything beats it, but if size is not a problem and you have a big cd collection (which I presume since if you don't then you can't encode to alac) then I would say dollar for dollar, getting a good cd player is much better. I use a Cambridge Audio 540Cv2 in my room, it's a budget cdp which is even cheaper than the imod, and in my opinion, it's better by some distance. Some people will disagree definitely, but I think getting a good cdp is a better idea. Lastly, if you really want to get the most out of your source, you might want to get a better amp. The bithead isn't very well regarded, but I've never heard it so I don't know. You right on the money with a HD580 though. I love my HD600 (has the same drivers). If you can get the metal grills for the hd580 and upgraded cables, I think you'll be very happy...

hehe thanks. Right now the biggest weakness is the headstage. Waiting for 2 tubes to arrive..some people said it makes the soundstage better........but my wallet now..... how much? I bought it second hand, but at first-hand overseas price cos it was modded and came with some extra tubes. cost me about 550sgd, which is alot more than you can get it for if you know someone from china who can get it for you. Stock tubes not very good, and the amp needs some mods to be done to it so that you can use other tubes, or else there might be some humming sound. how long? less than a month

problem is that the singapore home-headphone amp market is a bit too small la...jaben and se carry mainly portable amps...very tough. Importing is hit-and-miss but with an active classifieds you can always sell at a discount..to people like me...

hmmm...you could say as a general rule that it's not allowed, but if someone is desperate to sell a piece of gear they have to PM you and tell you why it's not profiteering, and then you be the judge. Might be more work, some of the profiteers won't like it, but i think it makes sense. The criteria would be that they are not profiteering. It's not difficult to distinguish such cases I think.

I have a hd600, hf1 and er4s. Like it with the 1st 2, with the er4s the bass is a bit too weak. This is a very solid amp. Build quality is really first class, have never seen a china-made amp with a better build. Sound-wise I don't know how much mine sounds like an unmodded 336i, but reviews at headfi are generally positive. Soundstage isn't as good as my ss amp, but the tone is completely different. I think i'm getting addicted to the tube sound....

I know alot of people say that iems are far better than noise cancelling phones...but... Last month when I was at the airport I tried the bose QC2s connected to a nano at a shop and I must say, it was pretty good! the more expensive and smaller QC3 is really complete rubbish though... this one looks alot like the QC2. Does it also have to run on its own batteries? that's the most irritating thing for me really. My er4s is easier to drive...smaller...reason enough to go for the iem route when travelling if you ask me.

indeed! Fact is that Wilson is definitely someone worth knowing. Most of us know that already! The whole Jaben controversy is really intriguing imo. Whilst he managed to get a real close knit set of loyal customers (nothing like the seige mentality to create bonds), What we got were: 1) a flood of angry members quitting, 2) 2 previously active Mods disappearing (the UK and Singapore Cabinets are bound by the theory of collective responsibility. This means that all Ministers must publicly support decisions made by the Cabinet. If they disagree, or can't support something, they resign. Or maybe in this case the mods just got sick of the hostile (ex)members, so japalang everybody quit ) 3) a new forum which is clearly hostile, and 4) an inability to get the episode out of our system, because half of our members know Wilson anyway! That said I wouldn't say the mods' decision was wrong per se, though I did disagree with it. Political decisions are always difficult, and always fun to talk about with the benefit of hindsight. Nevertheless, if the mods prefer not to allow such discussion please just delete this post, but please don't give me a warning! I just thought these observations were worth noting....
