  7. Hi Albert Thanks for all pleasant listening sessions and your generosity in letting me try out the different cans. Hope to see you around soon.
  8. have u tried it with the shure yellow foamies (for shure e3c onwards - they should fit ok)? i thought they made my UM2 sound less "muffled", compared to the comply tips. haven't tried it with the UM1 though ... will probably try it this weekend ... ymmv

  12. Hi Tinykhing You mean you can get the 2006 dt 990 at USD 175 at the following address in Bangkok? Vichai Trading Company R.O.P. 573/2 SOI Ramkamhaeng, 39 Prachauthit Rd., Wangthonglang 10310 Bangkok Thailand Phone: +6625590956 Fax: +6625590959 Moblie: +6616323258 will have to try to find the place if i'm going to bangkok ...
  13. i had found my sr60 headband tight too initially ... read a suggestion that you bend the headband slightly so it's more of a "u" shape. i tried that and it's very comfortable now. the sound with the senn 414 earpad is interesting too. just changed it yesterday. happy listening.
  14. Hi Do you have replacement pads for the other Senn Models e.g. HD580/595/600/650 (and prices)? THanks.
  15. yup, Albert (last Sat) said the new 990 is $499. must resist the temptation as well ....
  16. my limited listening experience and ears also tell me the new 990 is better than the new 880. i almost didn't listen to the new 880 when i was at AA last saturday! the new 990 just blew it away. btw Mackie, which headphone amp in your collection sounded better with the new 990? thanks for the great review.
  17. anyone know how much is the ms2i? the grado 325i is $520 at MBD. thanks.
  18. oops ... Wil is a SGheadphones member - not a dealer. take a look at the classifieds.
  19. i bought mine from Wil (a great chap!). i think that there are 2 units for sale in the forum ... (not mine!!!)
  20. have been using my cayin as pre-amp (ecc 83 and 82 mullard with jj tubes as in mackie's review) with my integrated amp (Audio Refinement) and Infinity Primus 360 floor standers. i felt the sound had "opened up" and can hear more details and it became more "lively" (compared with using integrated amp on stand-alone basis - however this could be due the integrated itself not having synergy with the speakers). ymmv!!! i hardly use it as a head amp these days - sticking to my grado ra-1 clone with senn hd580 - prefer this combination than senn with cayin (though this sounds "airier" with more "space" between the instruments and vocal). the cd player is ts lim's modified marantz 63 se.
  21. what cans are you using/planning to use with? my limited experience: i like the senn hd580 with grado ra-1 (used or DIY version will be within your budget) ... sounds very "sweet". my favourite pairing at the moment apart from a Stax set i find the beyer DT880 (pre-2006 version) went well with the cayin ha-1 (tube rolled as per Mackie's review) but used cayin likely to be above your budget (perhaps $400 to $500) ... sounds "silky smooth" the hd580 sounds good too with the meier's porta corda (which is a portable amp but can be used with an adapter at home) plus with the benefit of cross-feed though the senn + ra-1 combo is much "sweeter" and enjoyable (only con is no cross-feed)
  22. cool ... recent used 225s are much cheaper compared to the cheapest hf-1 i've seen ... s$200 + must audition them one of these days if there's a chance ... thanks
  23. what about the HF-1 in terms of value for money compared to SR-225? some guys in Head Fi were recently asking for USD 200 or so instead of up to USD 400 a while ago. apologies if someone has asked this question b/f ... "must use the search function" thanks
