  1. True true, but actually when I asked the guy if can use my source he didn't make too much of a fuss. Anyway a notebook nowadays is easy. Acer 5672. About 2.5k, Core Duo proc, Radeon X1400, 1 GB RAM and 100 GB HDD. I think it's damn good value for money. Only thing is, during my time at Ngee Ann Poly, alot of my friends' Acer seem to break down easily. Maybe it's different now. Maybe you want to advise him to wait a while too. AMD Turion 64 X2 based laptops are coming out, so perhaps the Intel solutions will drop in pricing. Off-topic, but important: Anyone here knows anyone who has Bipolar Disorder and received treatment? Kinda urgent for me.
  2. Haha didn't know there were so many audiophiles in Singapore. I was thinking they will be like "Wah!!! $235 dollars ah? Rather buy a iPod". So I automatically assumed that anyone trying will be sgheadphones member haha. Too bad the tips were too small for me. If they were bigger and a good fit the sound quality might be improved. I didn't think to ask the guy to change, he seemed kinda arrogant to me. EDIT: Wow Zephyron going on Saturday. Haha good luck Today the crowds quite bad, but tolerable. Weekend gonna be a killer man. Some places today you can hardly move at all. I didn't know got so many adults take day off to go PC Show haha.
  3. Eh? I didn't see it at the PC Show. Which booth?
  4. Hey I managed to try it out too. There was a guy beside me testing it too, I was wondering if it's a fellow sgheadphones member. My impression was bad all the way. I auditioned it with my PSP. Perhaps the earbuds are just too small for me, but I found the sound totally off. It sounded hollow. The whole song just didn't sound right. However I only got to test it for 2 or 3 minutes. Thus... Your mileage may vary. Sorry my english isn't that "powderful", but on the whole, the thing isn't worth $235. On the flipside, the auditioning conditions were bad, since the place was filled with random chatter and blaring loud music. Give it a spin at Stereo Electronics, you might like it. My friend and I visited "Uncle" Wilson too. Gave my friend a nice discount for his MS1. Thanks Wilson Sorry I didn't buy anything, but like I said the conditions were bad so I'm not really ready to take the plunge on the UM1 yet.
  5. Stereo Electronics will have it. You can see Aron's post about it in the announcements I think.
  6. I would say it's a certain famous song from South Park
  7. I don't think people here listen to rock, but Yellowcard's "Gifts and Curses" is quite a tear jerker for me when the mood is there. I see your face with every punch I take And every bone I break, it's all for you My worst pains are words I cannot say, Still I will always fight on for you To me the whole song is beautiful. And yeah, the first time I heard "Love Me" I thought the lyrics were so sweet.
  8. And the Sansas are supposed to be cheap too! Looking good indeed.
  9. Try the iM716: detail and clarity are supposed to be it's forte, according to the land where people welcome you by saying "Sorry about your wallet". Problem is finding it in Singapore. Stereo Electronics doesn't carry it.
  10. Wow, that's $40 off the normal price. Still more than direct USD>SGD conversion, but after reading Wilson's post I'm not complaining now.
  11. Woah why trying to sell so fast after building it?
  12. I have been considering a PPAv2 for quite a while now, but also thinking of going for the Xin Supermacro IV. EDIT: Looks to me like you are using OPA627s. Nice
  13. Glad you liked it Just curious, how much did you buy it for?
  14. What's a Sinclair? Some sort of old computer like the Commodore 64? Going way back before 80386 times?
  15. iAudios are generally well regarded: Good SQ, Good Codec Support, Good Quality and Stylish as well. Hope you got yourself a good deal there! Oh yeah, I went to the iAudio website to look at the U3. It looks good, the power output is good enough to drive alot of cans without an amp. However keep in mind that the battery is built-in. Since the player is not under warranty, replacing it will be a real hassle, and might be costly. How long has it been used? If it has been used sparingly, then the battery might last for a while more. EDIT: The U3 has excellent codec support. Ogg and FLAC are very rarely found in non-rockbox players.
  16. Hmmm flash-based. Best basic advice I can give you is to avoid S1 mp3 players. What's a S1 mp3 player? It's the ubiquitous cheapo mp3 player you come across commonly in Sim Lim Square. They come in many different shapes, colours, brands, but they all come from a chinese OEM. You can find more information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S1_MP3_Player Why avoid them? Well I bought one of them, before I joined knew about the audiophile community and contracted a case of upgraditis. Their SQ ain't bad, really, it's definitely competitive with iPods (no offence to the iPod crowd ), but they have a horrible signal to noise ratio. And I mean horrible. You can hear very obvious hissing in the background. Codec support will probably be the next thing to go out for. Ogg Vorbis has arguably one of the best compression ratios out there, and since you are going with flash-based Ogg Vorbis can help with squeezing as much music as possible. Other than that, I dunno what to add. Good brands include iRiver and iAudio of course. If you are one of the Apple crowd, the Shuffle ain't bad, it's SQ is supposed to beat the 4th Gen and below iPods and up to par with the 5th Gen. Well, that's all I can think of. Hope it helps. EDIT: BTW if you are choosing flash-based over HDD-based because of size reasons rather than pricing, may I recommend the iAudio 6. It's a flash-based mp3 sized player with a 4GB hard disk.

    0404 dying...

Creative's soundcards get very mixed reviews. If you notice in the audiophile world, alot of people like using the 0404... Although frankly, I don't know why. Kube fill me in on that?

If you can, try taking out the card and installing it onto another computer to see if the problem persists. Next, if it still persists, try cleaning the gold contacts. Updating the drivers might help too. These are all the solutions I can remember off my head right now. Is it possible to send it back? I'm guessing it's no longer under warranty?
  19. Haha good one But in all seriousness, at least Creative is honest enough to admit that Singapore is iPod land after all. That is really disgusting behavior... But I think they will come to regret it. Screwing over one of the Singaporean audiophile community favourite shops... That ain't wise man.
  20. So you think paying much more for Shure or Ety is not being ripped off? Btw, can you comment on your review set? I'll like to know more about its quality before commenting on its price... I'm saying the conversion from 99USD to 219SGD is strange. It's understandable if an american company sells something more expensively in singapore due to shipping costs and what have you. But if a singaporean company sells its product in its own market at a higher price than an international market, wouldn't you find it strange? it is normal. even their gigaworks t20 speaker, its cheaper to get in the us then getting it locally. amazon has it for usd80, locally creative shop it goes for 180 there abouts. What the hell? Maybe we should form a mob and lynch Sim Wong Hoo
  21. Can you elaborate on this? Are you referring to the sound quality? I just noticed they're referred to as noise cancelling earphones. Feels a bit wrong. It's totally wrong. Well guess Creative doesn't even know their own products.
  22. Hi! I apologise if this sounds rude, but even Creative hasn't pegged their local price to these earphones. How'd you get the $219? Is that an official creative price? I was at the press launch today and they said they only have the US pricing at the moment. Well he did said he placed orders, so I guess Creative must have told him the pricing right?
  23. Three cheers for Aron!!! But $219! If these are just Creative branded E4cs I won't mind, they better be good! yongchris tell us how these babies are! We might have a dark horse here!
  24. I won't mind that actually. It means we can get the same thing without the additional cost associated with an illustrious brand like Shure. Then again, I'm getting disgusted with Creative. In schools, teachers keep harping on how we Singaporeans should be proud of Creative. Yet I don't really see them innovating. Take a look at the Audigys, the Audigy 4 is only slightly improved over the Audigy 1. And their support sucks, firmware updates are like far and few between. (For my friend's MuVo 2 FM at least) I might pop down to the Creative headquarters this weekend. I know after all that ranting on how Creative just rebrands other people's product and not doing any R&D of their own, it might be a bit hypocritical. However beggers can't be choosers
