    iPod Shuffle

    I got my Shuffle from Apple last night... barely 24 hours after placing the order. First thing that irritated me somewhat is the hissing sound during silence passages of tracks, and the mechanical noises during changing of track. The 'Next' function is also retarded by a few seconds... Song still continues being played for about a second or two after the button is pressed. Bad things aside, the Shuffle is a very good player for something compact and simple. There is some memory work to be done for some functions though. It is seriously lightweight and can be easily slotted into your pockets without detection. One of my friends is shocked to find that the Shuffle is actually in my pants... Regarding the issue of the Shuffle getting scratched easily, I think there's nothing to worry about. My Shuffle do not have any scratches at all, after being abused (literally) by friends in school today! Amazing!! I thought the poddie's surface is gone! The only scratch I detected on it is caused by me cleaning the poddie... ... Must learn not to clean by fingernail... Sound wise, I must say it is quite good. There is presence of soundstage and imaging is also quite good. I thought that the sounds will all be coming from the center of my head... There is also some punchiness and some life in the music. I particularly like it for something on the go. I did compare with my friends' iPods (both 4G and Mini) and they are quite similar... except for the hissing sound! Earphones used is Etymotic ER6i. Both the earphones and poddie look cute !!

Hi all, Does anyone know the max power handling of the shure e2c? i tried looking through many websites but can't find anything related to power handling... and any user comments on the e2c? compared to similarly priced equilvalents? =p... thanks... planning to use with ipod shuffle... cmoy tentatively once power handling is known.   8. I concur. The OPA2228 does sound much more musical and warm. In fact, I'm in favor of it over the OPA637.

    DIY LC-king

    It's known as thermal tape, and frag tape by some people. Strange people calls it frag tape. Does it improve your frag count in games? It is not readily available, but you can buy it in packs (pre-cut sizes) from Bell Electronics. Those from Bell are not sticky but they provide the electrical isolation. Another option would be mica sheets (forgot the proper term, but it's mica) available from Silicone Electronics. More expensive than the above and cracks easily. It is not as flexible as the one from Bell, but with its usage in vacuum tubes, it can probably withstand very high temperatures.
  12. YES. I didnt use that. I notice them mainly in tube pre-amplifiers. I guess it's also to drain the output capacitor's current.
  13. bpripadi, Inverting mode is chosen for its simplicity (partly due to the VERY limited range of Holcos available as well ). By the way, sharp eyes. The ground used to be from the +ve and -ve output of the 2 rectifier bridges, but later removed. huangyong, Do you mean the resistor placed at the output of the pre-amp? Regarding the virtual ground question, except for the DEEP bass that's missing after converting, there's no other difference i noticed (I had a short-lived dual trannie-rectifier bridge PS ) However, the deep bass could also be missing due to the 1800uF capacitance per rail I removed. The center-tap of the trannie can be used as signal ground, but note your grounding technique to remove unnecessary noise/hum injected.
  14. huangyong, What do you mean by output resistance? I don't have much experience to talk about.. hehe... regarding the OPA627, I recently swapped that out of my phono stage and changed it to a OPA2228... nice sweet sound! Intend to keep the OPA2228 in the phono stage.
  15. bpribadi, The gain is 2.7, inverting configuration. Used separates for the 'modular' design. Can swap the signal board easily if i one day decide to change it. Or i could also change the virtual ground driver board with something better (perhaps higher output for a more demanding signal board?). The power supply can also be changed. My previous power supply uses 2 trannie, 16 MUR860 diodes and 4 Panasonic FCs. Ripped that up and now I can make 2 power supplies. Q00, That's an evil sheep wearing Santa's hat. It's actually a jellybean dispenser.. the jellybean's dispensed out of the backside... notice that the jellybeans in that package are all brown... hehe.. but I have run out of jellybeans... digi01, Thanks! I think the transformers are made in Shanghai, not Beijing. Have not been to Beijing before...
  16. lastly... the virtual ground divider... the TO220 package is the BUF634 and the TO3 package is the TLE2426... no passive components other than the 2 caps were used for virtual grounding...
  17. the underside of the signal board... a 1uF cap is soldered directly across +ve and -ve. the feedback resistor is concealed by the 1uF cap...
  18. Hi all, this is the AD8610 based pre/head-amp I did up last week, after letting the components collect dust for more than a year ... Resistors used are Holco 0.1%s... power supply caps are Panasonic FCs (1800uF per rail on virtual ground divider board, 220uF per rail per channel on signal board), 1uF stacked film across the +ve and -ve rails on signal board... rectifier diodes are OnSemi MUR860s encapsulated PCB mount trannies are bought during my last trip to Shanghai... no capacitors are used in the signal path... this is the overall pic... no casing yet...

  20. Ok.. have some spare 0.47uF stacked films around... .. just wondering if 0.47uF is enough. Is the Cerafine alright? Though being an electrolytic it should be faster than normal electrolytics. Have some spare 10uF Cerafines lying around too...
