  1. Actually Zephy showed me a way to sterilise the flanges or flexes after every use with a few nice wipes of methylated spirit. They can be found at guardian pharmacies at $3.20 per bottle. Should be able to last you sometime. You should always remove the tips before you clean them so as not to get the solution onto your earphones. I think this way it provides the ears better hygiene. The next will be to change the tips every few months.
  2. Pros and cons. But both are good. The UM2 is good but the bass can be overwhelming sometimes. Abit complex for my ears.
  3. If not for the extra 50 bucks, i would have gotten the ER6i.
  4. I didnt know there's such a thing as a rockbox! But cool, for now i'll stick to the 5g ipod for aesthetical reasons.
  5. The iaudio X5 looks great from their website. Has anyone compared them with the 5th gen ipods? It's a good thing these works with the mac and even has built in FM Radio. Now all i have to do is find how much it costs...
  6. Thanks for the prompt reply. The 5th gen Ipod should be the one that plays video right?
  7. The Creative EP630 are easier and more comfortable to wear. However the odd shaped Cresyn sounds better to me but couldn't stay in my ear phone long as they tend to pop out. I have also seen people posting their Cresyn earphones fitted with modified tips from other brands and they claim it somewhat fixed the fitting problem. This will involve additional cost and work but should be well worth for the sound. You should visit Stereo Electronics at CWP as they have demo pairs for both models for you to try them out before you buy. Both comes at a flat price of $42.
  8. One of Zeph's super customs again... haha.. btw whats that bottle of solution you use to clean your tips called? Some Antispetics? May i know the medical name for it? Thanks.
  9. Thanks for the help guys! I will read them thoroughly during the weekends!
  10. As of the topic, the mp3 player has to come with a considerably better lineout than my 2nd gen Ipod. Maybe due to the age of my ipod (and the dying battery), i find the sounding rather hollow and it doesn't sound good with my 3 day old UM1s. I will prefer players with a higherr storage capacity and it doesnt have to be apple but have to be compatible with a mac as i'm using a powerbook. Most importantly it has to sound better than my really old Ipod. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  11. Thanks biggulp. I'm on version V3.96.1. I'm not too sure of how to go about doing the update? Would appreciate if you'd fill me in on the details. Thanks! Sorry, i forgot to add that i'm currently using a Mac running on OSX version 10.4.6. Wonder if it helps. Thanks again.
  12. I'm such a naughty hobbit. UM2 users beware...

Nice Hues. But i just dump savings on the UM1 2 days ago.
  14. hi, i just downloaded itunes-LAME and i wonder at what bit rate should i set? is the standard preset which encodes at 221kbps enough for the ipod? I'm using a 1st gen 10gb ipod btw, wonders if it makes any difference. Thanks!
  15. Both models are really good but they sound different. The ER6is are more expensive and i did not choose them because they feel fragile to me. The other factors are, the pricing, the style of wearing for the earphones, and the level of comfort when worn for the UM1s. The UM1 comes with a solid hard case while the ER6i comes with a soft case. Other things that came with my UM1 are 2 pair of normal complys, 2 pairs of short complys and a cleaning stick-like device. You should always test both out with different tips cause the varous tips sounds really different on both earphones. Then you can finally decide on which is best for you. OH NOES!!! Please teach me how to resist that lovely piece of "poke-ins"~~~ *For who are not mentally or financially prepared for the UM2 only Directions: Do not "poke-in" ears, poke elsewhere...
  16. yes i was offered to try but i rejected... if not i'll go "aahhhh mmmyyy pprreecciouussss!" at anyone with the UM2s! Naughty hobbits.
  17. But i wish i was richer, cause i didn't have the courage to test the UM2 today, haha!
  18. Between both models, i bought the UM1s in the end due to the better build, more comfortable fit and also the pricing. When worn correctly, these earphones perform very well. I'm now trying them out with the short complys that came with the UM1s and they're really good. Bought the Shure grey flexes as well for variety. Overall both earphones are really great its class and be sure to try them out before you buy. You can test both models at stereo electronics and I'm sure Aron will be glad to assist.
  19. Bougth the UM1s in the end. Very satisfied with the quality.
  20. Will be going down stereo this evening to test the UM1 and hopefully the ER6i. Till then there is nothing much i can say about both. Does both the UM1 and ER6i adopt the same wearing style? I wear glasses so i though it might be abit hard to adapt? But i'm sure for that kind of sounding i wouldn't mind the hassle though...
  21. This is the right thread for me. I'm also contemplating on either UM1s or the ER6is. Well I'll make my way down stereo this week to have both tested out so i can really decide which to buy.
