Any updates on the audition?

Xin's amps are the direct opposite, AFAIK. For my Supermini-3 it was recommended not to use alkaline batteries by Dr. Xin himself.

It's difficult to define 'the way it was meant to sound' because your speakers/cans color the sound in its own ways. By not using EQ, we're merely listening to the song 'the way it was meant to' based on your current setup, not exactly what the artiste/sound engineer intended. Sometimes I lower the higher frequencies a bit when using my Klipsch speakers, which tend to be brighter.

K701 can be gotten for around 520 at Americantechpushers, and the HD650 goes for just under 500 from the ebay seller you linked. To me, the savings seem worthwhile.

In my case the seller was the one who suggested using this service, and he handled all the shipping stuff for me.

Yeap, that's the rip-off pricing the headfiers are paying at. Sellers who just deal with shipping services. Do a search on EMS, there's a few.

There are sellers on taobao offering discounted EMS shipping too, it cost me 700rmb to ship 13.5kg IIRC.

If you're getting the Darkvoice from the same guy as the headfiers, be prepared to get ripped off. There are many other sellers on taobao.com (china's ebay) selling at SG$250 excluding shipping. Actually the seller mentioned on headfi also sells at that price, but if you emailed him in english, he will prolly quote you USD$299.
