  1. Nice cables and the ipod line out looks like a mod of Qsilver's. What's the pricing like for the ipod line out?
  2. I'll probably try the hair dryer method. I read on head-fi that recabling a grado or alessandro for that matter won't improve the sq drastically. The people there suggested upgrading to a higher end series like 325i or ms2 would be better. This isn't true of the sennheiser or so it's mentioned in the same reply.
  3. LOL The right driver's wire is annoying me cos it doesn't stay properly in the housing. It's movable even with the cable tie in the housing. As in externally, the cable can be pushed in. It makes some sound when the cable tie hits the housing. So I was thinking of opening it up to glue the cable tie or something. What do you suggest? Edit: Seems like I found the grado mod page... http://www.headwize.com/projects/showproj....e=grado_prj.htm Complete with a few ways to open the housing.
  4. I'm trying to figure out how to open up the casing of the MS1. Any help? Thanks
  5. Cool stuff. This has got to be one of the cheaper and most commonly available DAC. It'll be good even for a PC.
  6. Oh my, he has been hit by the upgrade bug. LOL Burn in your new set first then reevaluate again.
  7. That's true too. LOL Will see how.
  8. LOL we should go down and test it out asap. Such a chance won't come again. He mentioned certificates? Nice idea. So we get more discount by obtaining such a certificate?
  9. Agreed. Only upgrade when the sound is very different... The eq is in the preference, playback, dsp manager. Add the eq and config it.
  10. How much did you spend on the components?
  11. Maybe you need an external DAC with op-amp rolling capability. Those that taps into USB. Using USB for audio transfer shouldn't screw your quality since it's digital.
  12. The caps are used as a low pass filter in the audio signal. For the other caps, the tollerance doesn't matter. The LPF will just affect the cut off frequency... I'm not too sure how many Hertz difference. Take a look at the R-C combination.
  13. Won't it be better if people in singapore order together? Just my 2 cents. How does this DAC sound? How much did you spend on the components?
  14. LM4562 looks good. Esp when it can drive 600 Ohms load. We'll see what this baby can do.
  15. Yeah I forgot to put that down too. Thanks for adding the extra info. Otherwise he might come after me when he realise that he can't solder it on the board.
  16. LOL. Definitely need an amp. Portable or not depends on your budget and usage. Why don't you go to one of the shops to audition? Portable amps might be harder since it's 600 Ohms you're talking about. Still worth a try. Stereo Electronics and Jaben have some.
  17. If you need the alps pots, you can try this place... http://tangentsoft.net/audio/shop/ Note: The alps there are slightly more fully featured in that they have a switch integrated into the pot. Rather useful as you won't need a seperate switch to on/off it. They should have it in stock although you'll have to pay a bit more. Spec sheets are available on the manufacturer's site most of the time.
  18. So SR80 is brighter than MS1? I've never heard the SR80 before but I love my MS1.
  19. Interesting to see that Nokia has this but all of us here knows that thing will not be popular here.
  20. Seriously the cheapest would be to just leave the PCI soundcard and get a usb wireless dongle. It can be had for about 30 - 50 I think. Reception of wireless isn't bad unless you're far away and there are lots of obstructions. Anyhow, a connectivity of 11MBps is more than enough. Given that your connection usually won't be more than that... even if it is, the server you're getting from may not be fast enough to deliver that kind of speed.
  21. Definitely a problem... there won't be enough voltage swing to drive those high impedence cans for sure. An amp is definitely needed.
  22. It is not a drop in replacement... The pins aren't the same. If you want to use it, you'll have to rewire some of the traces. It's all in the data sheets. On another note, LM6171 has the same pins as other op-amps. So I'm assuming you just need an op-amp with about 80mA (Assuming you want to drive higher impedence headphones). Not sure if you need a flat gain from 0Hz to 20KHz.
  23. I donno dude... MD just seems dead. Why not go back to CD player? BTW what's hi md? Hifi MD deck?
  24. Thx for the response. I guess I'll slowly save up and get one at a time. Cheers.
  25. BTW,how much did you buy it at? How does it compare to LDM+?
