IMO, keep the IC, so when you want to burn in your amp, you can plug it into any audio out rather than just the ipod, also, the IC can be useful when you do not wish to use the lineout i.e. over a PA system

Depends on where you are getting your headphones from, most of the time, companies prefer to ship only within US, thus having to go via Vpost, however, if the company is willing to ship overseas( most of time it being very costly e.g. 50 USD) you might want to weigh the odds

For your budget, you might want to try the Logitech X230, which cost 69, or you could try DiVoom's series

What colour is your RP-HTX7? And how much warranty left on those cans?

How about the battery life wise? is it affected badly?

Guess the most important thing is that your ears are kept happy( not too sure if the wallet would be happy, but i guess some things are just worth the investment)

If i'm not wrong, the sharp 'S' happens on certain tracks only right? It might be due to the recording, as i too am a UM1 user, i definitely love its mids and highs but there's the occasional 'S' which hurts the ears.

Have to agree with radioactive28 on the part of resisting to turn up the volume. To me the most important thing would be the isolation, as good isolation really helps to keep the volume at a good level.

I'm kind of stuck in between getting an external sound card e.g. EMU 0404 USB or the M-audio Audiophile USB and a DAC e.g. dared mp5 Could anyone tell me the difference between a DAC and an external sound card? Thanks!

There are many amps out there e.g. Xenos, GoVibe 5/s, Xtra X1, C&C box, LDM+. Its a matter of a sound that you like. You can try them out at SE & Jaben. Those mentioned are mid range - low end ones. If you're looking for higher end ones. e.g. Portaphile, Tomahawk etc etc, have to get them imported.

Have you tried other headphone/earphones with your Nano? Doubt the problem could lie with the UM1, since it works fine on your laptop

Probably can try the HD-280 pro, pretty big but comfortable, provides isolation the only thing is that it may suck ur batt quite fast due to its relative high resistance( can get an amp to go along)
