  1. I tried to find out the same thing. The connectors seem to be proprietary. If you want to make your own cable you need to use the connectors from the stock cable. Some commercial cable manufacturers do the same.
  2. Hmm, that X sword sounds very interesting. Any shops in Singapore that carry it?
  3. This link works very well with bass heavy IEM's like the Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 EB.
  4. and now for some pictures! Btw I'll be in KL tomorrow and Friday. Any chance of a meet?
  5. I'm not so sure about custom earmolds but they might improve bass a bit because of better isolation. Now for custom IEM's, that's a whole different story. The driver(s) and mold are made to sound better. I'm waiting for the first batch Livewires to come in before I make my decision though.
  6. Animated? I hope they do it well because the D&D movies and animated series so far are cr*p.
  7. Fizban, I didn't see anyone commenting on ear- or headphones they haven't tried before. I did see comments on the BOSE brand in general, which in my opinion are fair to the brand. I would like to see a product from this company that merits the premium prices you have to pay for them but so far I've been disappointed. The point of having fora like this, is to exchange views and experiences, not only of particular models but also of brands in general. This goes especially if this brand has a carefully created image of making premium products which are actually overpriced and medium performing. I refuse to go with the BOSE bashing crowd at head-fi.org and like I stated have never listened to BOSE ear- or headphones but I do know their speakers and the technology behind them. alleggerita is asking for advise on BOSE so it is only fair to make him aware of the general issues surrounding the brand. The final call will always be made by the buyer, not by those advising. B.t.w. I like your nick, although Raistlin is my favourite character
  8. I sold my UE Super.fi 5 EB and got me a pair of Mylar One X3's. I'm still using the largest UE tips though and they fit perfectly. The trick is not to push them all the way in your ear but find the "sweet spot".
  9. I'm still on the fence on getting an imod. I want to upgrade the internal drive to the new 100Gb Toshiba and put in a high capacity battery at the same time. I mailed Vinnie if he could do the swap and mod at the same time which seems more efficient to me than opening the iPod twice. Unfortunately his answer was rather abrupt and not very friendly or helpfull at all so I've scrapped that idea. I'm eagerly awaiting your end results and almost certainly will be one of your first customers if and when you decide to do this for other forum members!
  10. The Mylar One XB is a bit faster and has more bass. very nice for gaming.
  11. Welcome to the forum! Good thing you start your quest by asking before you buy. Most people would say that BOSE is way overpriced and that you can find much better IEM (in ear monitors) for the price. Actually, if you go to head-fi.org you'll find that BOSE is considered a four letter word (or an acronym for Buy Other Stereo Equipment ). I've never heard these earphones so I don't know but you might try the Crossroads Mylar X3 or the lower end Westones or Ultimate ears if you want to save money AND have good IEM's. Just go to Jaben in Adelphi (try a friday evening for free snacks and drinks!) or Stereo in Causeway Point and you can try any IEM and headphone you like.
  12. Wouldn't it be faster and more reliable to call Shure about this? http://shure.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/shure.cf...enduser/ask.php
  13. It's all about synergy. Jaben has the A1 in store now and I tried it yesterday with the 770, 880 and 990. It's great, absolutely great but for that kind of money I prefer my Spark HA-1A and Cardas-ed HD650. The 770-A1 combo was nice, fast, and most in-your-face. It's different from the laid back, slower Senns but still has the close-by presence that I like. The 880 and 990 put the music more at a distance, like you're further back in the audience. I only had time to listen to 1 song though (Hotel California) so I should go back to listen some more.
  14. The DT 700 are the best alround cans in my opinion. If you're more into rock you'll like the Alessandro MS-1. For the top in classical I have my Sennheiser HD650. You're living in a country with not one but two shops that will allow you to try before you buy. Take advantage of it!
  15. Go to Jaben in Adelphi or Stereo and ask them to try different earphones. You might find something you like. If you like very "relaxed" then you should try the Crossroads Mylar One X3 with the Headamp AE-2. The first is a rather inexpensive earphone (IEM) with a phenomenal bang for the buck, the latter a very expensive amplifier with a very quiet and relaxed signature.
  16. Why don't you use something like this? Using a soundcard to feed your DAC would defeat the purpose of having a DAC in the first place. The best way would be to use a DAC with USB input but a USB to optical converter would be my second choice.
  17. Since I've only been in Singapore since September I consider myself pretty neutral. I hadn't heard of Jaben until I saw the petty squabbling going on on this forum which made me curious. I knew about Stereo but it's a bit out of the way for me. I still like the shop though and visit whenever I go cross the border to JB. It was the first shop that let me try out all the headphones and ic's I wanted without pushing anything! I still don't understand why a small place like Singapore needs two fora. My hope is that one day the fora will merge so everyone can write on the same site instead of going to two (or three, including head-fi) fora to exchange views and experiences. Off course there is a commercial rivalry when you're in the same business (look at what's happening to my employer, ABN AMRO) but in the end the low budget-high end audio business doesn't lend itself to politics and division. It's simply too small a market. Anyway, since I met Wilson and the headphonehaven crew I try to go to the Friday meets as much as I can.Even though I haven't bought much (yet) I have always found Wilson's hospitality the best I have yet experienced. I consider him a friend more than a regular shopkeeper. It's refreshing to see someone who is more interested in the hobby itself then in commercial gain as long as it doesn't interfere with good commercial sense. I hope both shops will do well for a long time
  18. Have you considered IEM's? They have much better sound quality for the price especially the new generation.
  19. I like my Crossroads MylarThree more than my UA Super.fi EB. Moneywise a hugh downgrade but qualitywise?
  20. They have a store at Marina Square as well. By the way, there's a 0404 for sale at the head-fi forum I just saw.
