  1. uh? I'd be deaf by the time the 621 distorts... BTW when u set the woofer low it sounds very thin, and when u set higher, it goes boomy. Pretty Ok for the price but, not so clean sound.
  2. Many of my friends do have the G74 or the unfoldable version. I have tried, and its nothing great. PX200 if positioned properly beats it hands down. BTW I had once owned a PX100 but I thought its not worth what I paid for it. Muddy, slow sound, nowhere even near the PX200. Hence at this point of the PX200 being "slower" I disagree with the head-fi reviewer. Also, its behind KSC-35. Assuming a cost of $50 for the KSC-35, I would expect a price of about $30+(higher end of 30s) for the Sony's sound. Of course its miles ahead of the MDR-Q55 (thankfully). I was indeed pleasantly surprised by its sound given the bad experience with MDR-Q55. The overall sound of the G74 is pretty sony signature, typically cold sound with very awkwardly coloured mids (not so bad for this pair).Compared with other Sony streetstyles its a winner, but I'm not sure how it compares to KSC50/55 as I haven't tried them. I am quite sure the koss will give u a run for your money. I can't say the same for the Sonys.
  3. i mean u can look for DIYers or go to the shop called LHS electronics at Sim Lim Tower Lv2. I've only tried the Klotz GY107. Hence it'd be better that you read the review mackie did on the cables or look for the boss of LHS, Robert for recommendations.
  4. Get someone to DIY for you/ or LHS to make for u, would be much much more worth it, IMO. Considering shipping fees, etc.
  5. Blues, when you're on the move there tends to be hiss (especially transitlink bus because of the TV Mobile) due to poorer reception. If reception is good there should not be any problem.
  6. What can I say? Your best effort so far!

  8. Depends on your budget and whether you only want commercial cables or DIY also can. So, what's ur budget?
  9. I'm not good with terms either. Anyway, the way you described it, like having a wall, seeems to be more like a vieiled sound rather than laidback. Forward tends to feel very near, and there is a lesser soundstage (usually) Laidback appears far away, but doesnt mean its vieiled, you won't feel like there's a layer of thing i between. This tends to be less engaging and less distracting when working. It also gives a large apparant soundstage (usually). For the grado its very very forward, much like everything is in-yer-face kind. You've gotta try to really know if that kind of sound is what you're looking for. Remember not to let the "new sound" get you so excited that you lose your mind. That said, it happens to most of us. Heh Ah, whatever, I'm sure someone else can give a better explanation.
  10. Burning in is just letting the driver clock up enough running time, how it is done, doesn't really matter. The most important is try not to blast during the first 100 hours or so. How you burn in won't affect its sound eventually. The reason people burn in is because they can't stand the sound when new, so they leave it to run until the sound is good before using. BTW the DT431, its a very very laidback kind of cans and midrange is a little sucked out. Personally I find its a very very good pair of cans and very nice signature. Great all-rounder cans and IMO perhaps the most pleasant signature for me among sub-$200 cans. And improves a lot with amping. One of the least distracting cans if you're doing work also. It has wide soundstage but not deep. That said, if you like the sound more forward you might not like this. Its like the opposite of grados (in terms of forwardness). But if you were to ask me for S$120, i'd grabbed it except I would be afraid of any malfuctions or dirt-stuck-inside kind of stuff as this is a very old pair of cans already. For the sub-S$200, getting an RA-1 is perhaps the best choice for you. Don't worry about crossfeed, most never live with crossfeed when using open cans as it isn't much of an issue. Its better than the CMOY and should be more versatile than the CMOY. Whatever your choice, audition the grados carefully before making your decision. Never buy because of reviews/advices. One man's meet might be another's poison
  11. Declaration: I have not tried these. The general consencus is that it has a loose fit and has lesser bass than KSC35 (I do have these). The KSC55 would have more bass than KSC50 (again the general publics' findings), but its not clip-on. Perhaps you would like to await the KSC75?
  12. If length does not matter, and quality is important, for the mini-mini, you may consider this: http://www.fixup.net/products/whitemini.htm
  13. My advice for you, beyers tend to do pretty well as an all-rounder cans. Also, beyers tend to improve quite a fair bit with amping. I've tried neither the D66 nor the DT231. And FYI, the DT431 cannot be found anymore. If you happen to come across one cheap enough, GRAB IT. Since you are a student, I would tend to imagine that you would listen to the cans while doing homework. If thats the case, beyers would be less distracting or engaging for that matter (at least for the DT431). I guess there's a lot of assumptions/generalisations as above Here's something more concrete Since you are coming to Singapore, a good advice will be as such: Bring along the source you are using (if its portable) and go down to Music by Design for a audition. Then imagine DT231 with more dynamics and bass, plus a little more midrange and slightly forward (most likely so when paired with the RA-1. Basically, the signature should remain). Consider which signature you prefer. (Be very careful, since people usually get attracted to a new signature and then gets tired of it after some time, only to find they actually prefer the other cans. The best way would be not concentrate on any part of the music, like WOW SO MUCH BASS or WOW SO MUCH DETAILS, and go on listening to every track for the bass/details, etc. Sit back and let the music overwhelm you. Take your time if you have it.) I think the amp would be a wiser choice since I notice that you do have instrumental as quite a part of your collections. I'm not so sure if the grado will handle instrumental as well. Besides, this amp is pretty good and VERY versatile. It creates a certain amount of magic with most of the cans you pair it with. If one day you upgrade your cans, you will most likely not regret having the RA-1 clone.
  14. What about getting a RA-1 clone built and shipped to Indonesia by Digi01? http://www.sgheadphones.net/index.php?show...indpost&p=45100
  15. I use XP pro and have tonnes of progs installed yet I experience no slow startup. In fact I've experienced a faster startup. BTW I feel its good practice to not touch the computer especially when burning audio CDs. But I do notice this problem after installing SP2, that is that CDs burn at a max of 8x while last time it was 16x. My burner's max speed is 24x. Software is NTI CD Maker Deluxe.
  16. I personally quite like the Sugden Headmaster though if you were to use it solely as head amp it'd be quite a bit overpriced. I have no idea how it works when used as a preamp. If you like smooth mids (not warm), it'd be pretty good (as a headamp). But considering a Marantz source and the DT880, I feel there might be a high chance that you have to give it a miss. Don't take my word for it though since its an assumption.

I'd say the silver knob matches well. I think the headphone jack should be better on the front for easy access.
  19. Indeed the CDs are slightly pricey locally, but can still be considered reasonable to buy a few copies. The real question is not about money, but really about IPR. If you tried so hard to market a product, spent so much effort in it, and I buy a copy, then copy for my friends, you will feel very disappointed. Of course now that you aren't one of them you can say all you like, "I won't mind", anyone can say that. But its only when it happens on you that you will feel it. Actually I think the real problem behind p2p is the pop market, where people follow the trends, of that ever changing new songs and only that one or two from each album. If one happens to like a lot of different songs, it's unlikely that he will buy all the albums for that mere 1-2 songs each album, and keep on buying every month, because of the ever changing fashion. Besides if you were to download 192kbps MP3s on the net, more likely than not they'd be very close to the quality of CDs. But I do think that for these people paying to download licensed MP3 should be pretty reasonable. I know people who download albums upon albums and store them in their computer. It's quite saddening to see that. I think its time to put an end to massive downloaders. That said availability is another problem. I guess if you can't find the product locally, and you'd have to miss it for life, it'd be quite disappointing. I guess thats something to work on. With temptation just a click away it's kind of hard to resist, but we should try to.
  20. I guess the step taken of not needing to register before viewing the forum (except the classifieds) has been a great step, in easing the following: 1) People who aren't interested in posting at all have to register to view the forum. 2) People will start registering once they read on, and eventually get so tempted to post something. It always works Thereafter it might a road of no end As of today I have seen that sgh has been experiencing a number of new active members streaming in as compared to before the forum was made "public". Perhaps it was already a good step taken. Mackie, will you start the ball rolling
  21. For your reference, the thick part close to the plug has a diameter approximately 1.0cm. Hope this helps you to see if it can fit. FYI, I've tried using a gold plated mini-1/4" female adapter, i.e. like the grado one except its hard wired(like those kind of stuff usually found in hardware stores), but surprisingly comparing with the grado one made the adapter sound harsher. I was also kind of surprised as I wasn't exactly expecting a difference. Seems like the grado one is really good.
  22. The grado one IMO is transparent because its short and quality is good. Build quality very sturdy. Comes with the bag. It should be $16 at Music By Design.
  23. They are 9V replacement, and do work, except that plainviews tend to provide more weight to the cans due to the extra 1.2V.
  24. Yes, thats partly also what I was trying to say. We should just sit back and let things happen, don't care so much about the statistics. Besides, would you rather people post less and post better stuff, or post more and post crap.
