  1. Hi I believe you need CLOSED cans if your dad is listening at night. Open cans would still let you share his music experience. For two hundred you have a few choices. My advise try to get the most COMFORTABLE of the bunch if you plan to give it to your dad. Some recommendations would be Denon 1001, JVC RX700, Entry Level Beyers and AKGs. =)
  2. Can I tag along w/ u guys I can bring the DacMagic too. So you can decide which you prefer. I prefer the Xindak...ehem... DacMa...Xindak..... Anyway. Try it out just bring xlr cables. DacMagic outs are male not sure for Xindak outs. =) Really missed the last meet bigtime. lol! Try playing with sources. I second you that the IMOD+Irukandji is hard to beat at lower price levels but a mid-level CDP should be better though. Just imagine CDP + Irukandji (It has line in which a RCA to mini is very welcome) + AMP.
  3. Oh. Don't forget the JVC HA-RX700. This would be well within your budget. If you get it with a promo the change could let you buy a Fioo E5. =) For 100 you can also Try The Denon 1001 just a bit more expensive. SO you can compare which you prefer.
  4. Waah totaly missed this meet... for Love. lol! It would have been nice to hear it out myself. What was setup with the stax when you guys tried it?
  5. I am also curious how the Tube and SS come together to the XLR out of the Xindak. The sound of the Beyer DT880 with the Xindak haunted me already. Can't imagine how i would react with the DT880 on the B22. The XLR from my DAC Magic way much better than my RCA connections. Maybe something to do with the 4 channels available on the balanced connections. Anyway enjoying balanced out oput thru my mixer and thru my nEar05. Finaly using the CD900st was supposed to be plugged in on a Mixer. lol! Hayz, very tired been quite for a while due to ton of errand to and from hotel due to work. =( I hope by the end of the week everything comes back to normal.
  6. Both Stereo and Jaben carry them. Just drop by and ask. But, I always doubt an adapter plug or extension cables unless bundled with an equipment (headphone or amp). The addition of a plug may add impendance to the phone and might degrade performance. This is just my take. I had this hypothesis after comparing a bundled Senn converter and an off the shelf Sony converter. The Sony converter changed the sound a bit. Even tried comparing a a ultrasone converter with the senn. it spelled a difference for the Ultrasone.
  7. What kind of Ipod? and are you using an AMP? From what I understand you need a pouch for storage of an ipod and an IEM in a case?
  8. Wow! Now I'm curious. Let see how far to the Darkside would I go. lol! It would really be nice to try your rigs.
  9. Haha! I've tried stax the music is sweet, crisps and very clean but I feel I need more BASS Quantity wise but still having the quality of tight and deep. Personal preference on teh BASS of a Denon or even the colored sound for the HD650. I guess it's a matter of preference. I'm actually DEEPLY (this would be the biggest SINGLE ticket item I get todate) thinking of jumping the gun and adding a Sub for my nEar05. I love how it presents the bass. it is great but I still felt i want to feel the music aside from listening to it. Thinking of a SVS SB12+. In a way this translates on what I am looking for for an IEM and Headphone. I have an Atrio, IE8, HD650 and even the ESW10. My Sony CD900st is bordering my definition of bright already. But sometimes you just want to listen to details which the sony definitely gives me. If I do buy another phone it might be a Denon. I am looking at my interconnects power cables too. Recently after listening all the time. I found some noise or low level hums from my equip. I'm still isolating if I have a bad power outlet. The noise is making me crazy. I also bought some tubes to play around my LC3 I found that the tube rings do change the sonic features of a tube. It can make the tube sound very dark. I haven't played w/ the tubes yet as I am still burning them in. Out of the box everything really harsh. Aside from that. I am also doing some reading on balanced connections. I want to check if my mixer shouldn't be part of my setup as it might be a bottle neck. But based on what I'm currently hearing it doesn't make my system bad at all. Hayz, there's also CDs. I don't have any CDs here as I just arrived more than a year ago. Before I forget i still have some QR8s to play with. lol! But if you really want to tweak your rig,. My advise touchbase with cal or Kidult. just be ready with you ATM. As I found with cables alone they don't come cheap. lol!
  10. @Heady I couldn't agree with Cal more. I still hold to the cliche "Another man's trash might be MY treasure!" loL! I think I won't be going to STAX for sometime as it won't do justice to the POP, RnB, HipHop and Rock music I'm listening to right now. I like BASS. Count my rig as a begginer rig too. But I reallty love listening to it. Due to this no "upgraditis" for new cans or amps for the meantime. But I find my self spending on tweaks right now which I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing. @Kidult, If I won toto! I would like the Star Wars collection...ehem memorabilia. You figures are to die for. Can see my self sleeping at your listening room, day dreaming of a Galactic battle with those Tie fighters and the rebel fleet.
  11. Yes the TF10 wouldn't fit a UM56. But if you drop by Jaben. They can do a custom tip for your requested Universal IEM. One Forumer there has Custom Tips for a TF10. A friend of mine is getting a pair of Custom tips for his ATRIOS. I'm not sure if they are still Westone UM56. Based on the web site it is stated, "The Westone Style No. 56 is comparable in size to the tips provided with most universal-fit musicians monitors, but ensures the comfort and seal that only a custom-fit product can provide. " so you have to ask the shop if the tips a still UM56 or from another brand offering a similar service. Nice I just learned Westone has style 7 such that they make custom tips for earbud too. and a style 34 for ER4x iems. You can also ask stereo electronics if they also provide UM56 service as I haven't really tried to ask yet. The TF10 should fit to what you described in the start of the thread. They are quite good for bass heavy music. They can even be tweaked a bit (cables and tips) to suit your taste. But for you budget you also have to try out the Atrios. they are BASS kicking iems. They should go in between your budget.
  12. Hahah sure! You are not alone in the interest of hearing the much talekd about and highly anticipated HD800. Some people are actually checking out sources to get this. If I wasn't getting married this year would have been one in line too. lol! For shipping if you have a Citibank Credit Card try the site below. http://www.borderlinx.com/citi/sg/en/ I have been using this for some timefor my US purchases. Not really pointing out something. lol! I'm not really sure when as with the start of the year start of jobs too. so imight not be anytime soon. But I will personally PM you if we have something cooking. I'm looking forward to meet both of you. The people I know in Hi-FI growing.
  13. WOW!!!! That would be great. Maybe we have a mini-meet one of these days. Actually I'm friends with Cal, Kidult, Sep90, Soundsync, Uber, Kachui, hellfire and PBJ. We share the same passion in Headphones and Audio. Among us Cal and Kidult has been into Hi-fi for sometime. I'm just a "Padawan" Learner when it comes to this stuff. My home rig wouldn't come close to the "Hi" in Hi-fi. lol! Even if we don't have a meet anytime soon. It would be great to try out your rig. =) @jig_sg If we have a meet sometime I hope you can join. I also didn't know that there was a BH owner in SG. I've been hearing praises on the system. Can't wait to hear the take of the very few persons lucky enough to eye the BHSE. =)
  14. This thread's giving me Nose bleed with all the gorgeous rigs!!! A very nice rig indeed, @lengcm! =) If not mistaken you have your listening area in an Attic or the windows of your place are designed to have a diagonal slope. I'm totally curious how a burmester 035 sounds like. The HD600 s a bit picky than the HD650 to get synergy in what I've experienced anyway.
  15. Do my eyes decieve me. That is really a GREAT RIG. Kudos for the setup very neat. It not mistaken the Rack itself would cost more than my laptop. You got Mullards! The Flat Cords on the Headphones.. Sexy! Care to share where you live... lol!
  16. I actually started hunting. I will asvise you guys if I find "THE" PCDP.

Yes if you will buy a new set. NO if you can find some one to modify your current cables by cutting the RCAs out and creating a single Mini plug extension. But the second option will incur the same effort and cost. I would just buy a new one and keep the original cables safe if you feel to upgrdae again. Which in this hobby is NEVER Ending.
  18. Yes the Xindac was something! Actually it was the best out of the box as all our rigs weren't burned in yet. But the most painful to setup up. But again if Eric went balanced it would be a breeze and a few $$$$. The Duck was great that was the 1st time I had the dish we ate. I like the soup too. I was the one who said WOAH!! That was the first time I ever heard a DT880 performed that good. I still have night mares of the sound! The Xindac w/ irukandji and Yamamoto to the DT880 was heaven!!! To give a personally description is I heard the timbre of a splash and China cymbal striked with full force followed by a Very powerful strike of a FLOOR TOM plus a single volley of a Double peddal all in 1-2 secs. I was in AWE as this was part of Mike Portnoy's Drum Solo in Linkin Park's Bleeding Out track in their live concert. Never did I hear this on the number of times I've used this track as my audition track on the Cans I've tried. I have yet to hear this on my HD650. But the CD Player was great too. It did justice to the CDs played. the Upsampling was no minor change in sound it spelled the diff between fun listening boring and even too much SOUND! =) I shudder on how Calvin's 740c sound like with all the Tweaks!!! Unfortunately the DacMagic was the bottom performer. If not for the Irukandji it would sound CR*P! Straight to an amp via RCA it was very smooth, dry, no BASS all in all lifeless. But with the Irukandji the BODY was there BASS was back. It was a surprising realization as I haven't tried the DacMagic w/o the irukandji since I bought it all along I thought it was very good. lol! The Irukandji really showed its worth. The only good thing straight from the DacMagic are the Balanced XLR connections paired w/ the nEar05 it was suprisingly detailed, smooth and the BASS was VERY Punchy. I spent the whole morning listening thru the speakers yesterday. Now have to try Calvins suppa rig!!!
  19. Wow!!! a stax rig! That is not common here. It would be great if you offer to let us try out. By any cahnce can you tell the model of what you are using. I really don't know jack of stax so to say. nice rig PBJ (too long for me. lol!).

I can't really comment SQ wise which of the Fubar 2 or D2 is better as I haven't tried either. Another thing sound preference is really on an individual basis. so you may not like another man's treasure, so to say. Basically you have to try it for yourself. But usually a Desktop rig in a similar price range would beat a portable. The only Portable DAC I found that is quite good is a PICO Dac. But again a desktop at its price range would beat it. =/ But I think I can help you with the nEar04. You just need to get a Mini to dual mono TS cables you can buy one from Jaben. If you have time, you can save a little by having one made for you at LHS at 2nd Floor Sim Lim TOWER. It;s like a Mini to RCA Cable instead you have the RCA replaced with TS cables. It is hard to buy it of the shelf unless from Jaben as they also sell the nEar speakers. Dual Mono TS to Mini Plug Cable If you feel a bit stingy buy a Dual RCA to Mini Adapter and use your current cables. But the sound will degrade as compared to a a Dual TS to Mini cable. RCA To Mini adapter a TS plug is basically a Mono 1/4 plug that is used on Guitar cables. TS Plug Hope this helps. =)
